  • What does religion and int'l corporations have in common? They both believe that they own culture. Free yourself from copyright.

  • do what ever you want to do because this is showing who chrisitine are but we will never make fun of god because god is one with diferent names you call jesus we call rama and muslim call allah so degrading any name is degrading god directly and its a biggest sin now may god gives you worstest life and death even burn you in oil like a chicken for ever after death......

  • You are not chrisitine because as per hinduism jesus was incarnation of god and same as rama so by making fun of rama you are makin fun of jesus itself and don't worry we are indian best IT professional in world will give you very good response just wait and watch you will feel more than guilty for your sin.....

  • Hey Nina, why don't you take something from the Arab world?? You will see your entertainment coming very loud Bitch!!! Since you guys think Hindus are tolerant and will take and swallow just about any disrespect, you go an extra mile ridiculing their Gods. Shame on you!!!

  • NINA PALEY IS A CUNT...MAY SHE DEGRADE IN HELL!!!

  • When we never disresepect chrisitinaity why the hell they are so jealous with our great culture and try to defame it and shows their hate for Hindusm all time oldest religion of world. What if Hindus IT professionals start making fun of Jesus, will they like that?? So please stop doing this else ready for resposes.

  • She has so much hate about India and so tried to defame our culture. Lord Ram will punish her for shoring vulgarity and fake things in her movie.

  • @harnamsisodiya I didn't pick up on anything but love if Indian culture and a desire to spread it to Americans who otherwise wouldn't have taken a second glance at it.

Setting the story to different music didn't do anything to detract from the tale of Sita and Ram, and if anything it will provoke many more people to pick up and study the original texts.

  • everyone who obtains intellectual property without proper means of payment should rot in hell because they are aiding in the loss of THOUSANDS OF AMERICAN JOBS..... this is not the democracy America is supposed to be...where we hurt fellow citizens livelihoods by being ignorant to the fact that intellectual property creation is a job and without being subsizdized one way or another will hurt OUR CULTURAL CAPITAL and that CC my friends, is WHAT MAKES AMERICA GREAT

  • @SabStudiosMusic Intellectual property creation is a job, yes. Everyone who created the work she is using is dead. It is a corporate entity that holds the rights to those songs now, long after the copyright should have expired.

Copyright has a long history of changes. Changes in intent and use. I'm a writer myself, and I would be happy enough to see my Copyright expire, and my work enter in the public domain after, say 15 years, and I have had a few years to sell the work for a living.

  • I just got done watching Sita Sings the Blues, and I thought it was a really good video. It mirrors a time in her life, so in fact it is a parable and a narrative. You can see that in the way Dave and Nina interact with each other and the story of Rama and Sita.

It is sad that so few can see it in an non-objective point of view. I cant see why 8 people dislike her.

  • Nina Paley is a genius.

  • Hey Nina you are a loser - pls. accept your mistake and stop faking around about your artistic skill. If you are really an artist (which is a remote possibility) you would understand (you need brains in 1st place) that there are many areas where you can openly exhibit you’re so call artistic sense - But for heaven sake keep your filthy fingers off the religion (especially Hindu. Next time you open your mouth make sure you apologise).

  • a mere attention seeker who thinks she is an artist,i mean if u need to attack the feelings of a certain community to gain fame, this says a lot about how cheap a thing you are,it wud be simpler if u just starred in a porn movie u kno...oh sorry ur such an ugly thing it wudnt sell, awww ur a big fat whore u slutty ugly nina paley(hey its freedom of speech!!!)

  • shezz a sick bitch .

  • Nina you're an educated country brute !!!!! You should stop doing these non-sense things immediately. The way our brothers are communicating with you is our mannerism and not coward act like you are doing. First learn to respect religions just because of it we're human beings.

  • thats like saying jesus christ superstar is an attack on christianity, we watched that IN catholic school ! also... why cant she show it commercially if she MADE it?

  • thats like saying jesus christ superstar is an attack on christianity, we watched that IN catholic school !

  • i thought it was a great movie and i think there are a lot of people who are overreacting to this movie

  • Hinduism is an open source religion. Many religions today are derived from it. And those who understand hinduism wont find problems this film. Amazing piece of art. I loved the background music very much.

  • @liszt85 i totally agree. I am indian too and I loved it especially the discussion between the 3 shadow figures..It sounded like a discussion any normal person would have with his/her friends..and the songs were beautiful and fit in perfectly with the story :))

  • pathetic movie.

  • hey Nina, You have done really a great work. I apreciate your effort, i hope i will see your more good works in future.. But this film brought me some disapointment... The Ramayana is a holy epic for us.. Movies are great source of inspiration in todays life... This movie posses some content that can bring some disrespect and can harm the holy perception of The Ramayana in people mind specially in childs... I hope u'll understand

  • @r2anand4u what do you want to do to HInduism? Put it in deep freeze so that a million years later someone finds it in the exact same shape? Put it in a museum? Religion is a living thing, isnt it? As far as I can see this is a creative use of the Ramayana -- interweaving it with a contemporary narrative -- to create a perceptive, intelligent, and thoughtful dialogue between the past and the present. Isnt that what religion should do?

  • @Bakedbrownbread What you said is absolutely right!! Good things of all religions should be braught in easily perceptive and understandable form to the people. you took me wrong in the way that i mean there is nothing in transfoming any religion or culture unless it keeps its good things retained... but what if it lose those good things and make an impression of misbelief and disrespect..

  • @r2anand4u what is 'good'? In 1 family u can have a father order his daughter to return to her abusive in-laws coz preserving family honor is 'good' ; she might think life more imp than honor, what d'you advise her? you can talk of 'misbelief' when there is only 1 belief. But Hinduism developed over centuries, its not any ONE thing. The gr8est qlty of Hinduism is that it can absorb contradictions; just like life...you take that away, you kill the religion.

  • @r2anand4u my other point is that not all the lessons in life can be put in 'Kunji' format -- which you can mug up before an exam and get the best marks. Sometimes you have the read the whole book; and even if you get only 55% in the exam, it is possible what you have gained from reading the whole book counts for more than arks in the exam. Life is hard; choices are hard, answers are not always easy. And any religion or art that tries to tell you its easy, is a bogus religion and a bogus art.

  • @Bakedbrownbread this is what Hinduism teaches us "to respect ourselves & others". we are not dead souls. life without respect & honour is living as dead... hinduism is much mor than a religion; its a way of living.. it is the spirit abt best practices.. aproaching to the purest form of life. As unnikoroth said Hinduism is an opensource religion, it is very flexible & open to change, it acepts everything. whether that is good or bad; and meshit up and extract to form a unite universal culture!!

  • You are really out of your place comparing Hindus to terrorist. The criticism from Hindus on your pathetic attempt to potray the ramayana is justified. You are so full of yourself calling that movie a piece of art.

  • Wow, so much hate. I feel like this animation was made with so much love, and to engender this response is beyond my understanding. So sorry to hear all of this.

  • Nina, the film is a brilliant attempt at blasphemy and denigration of a tolerant and peaceful religion. Try the same with stories about Christianity and Islam. And mere depiction of religious stories in a warped form does not in anyway denigrate the values. We have kept the religion and culture alive even after 1000 years of suppression and oppression by Islamic and then by Christian invaders. Yours is just a drop in the ocean. May god be merciful towards you.

  • @anujkhare1234 Actually there have been many stories about Christianity which depict elements of the Bible in a humorous and light hearted manner. These stories were enjoyed by people who had a true understanding of the Bible, who had an INTELLIGENT appreciation of the arts and who were educated enough to think clearly, critically and autonomously. Enough said..

  • Madam Nina, your effort to degrade our Hindu gods is appreciable. Probably your effort to earn some cheap fame from world in the name of free lancer. I also think you are not pure Indian or Hindu or a mixed contents. RAJESH

  • @rajeshray1967 What the hell this great artist has to do with being hindu or indian?? The colour of the blood is red for all humans. This artist makes bright analyses and bring it to the people!!!

    walterboef

  • You sound like a moron,She has only depicted the pivotal points of the Ramayana in an animated, and humorous fashion I am a hindu too, and I did not find this video offensive in the least. The way you behave, one would think that Hindus are devoid of any sin, or bad thought whatsoever...Did Rama not doubt Sita and Banish her?The questions raised in this story are probably those that many MODERN, EDUCATED people would ask themselves. But please, feel free to stay in your insular comfort zone.

  • @rajeshray1967 Your idea of Purity is simple arrogance (speaking) Ramayana is not your property

  • dear nina, this is the greatest work of art I have seen in a long time......it lifted my spirits immeasurably and opened my heart, I felt inspired by the sheer boldness of the unconventional approach....

yes all art is now derivative ( and may always have been), but that doesn't mean authenticity is no longer......there is....and you show the way.

I love Sita and I send my love to you too.....w

  • Great work Nina! Ram would love you for your interpretation of the Ramayana. Because at least you have talked of him, have thought about him and of course represented in such an artistic way. Ravan and Kansa have all got to his kingdom for focusing on him. It doesn't matter how you worship him as long as you keep him in the focus.

  • We hate you Nina.

  • @sanjaym111 Is your hatred of others permitted in the moral tenets of your "Pure" faith?I didnt think so

  • intolerence to the other religion

  • intolerence to the other religion

  • ridiculas

  • it is madness...

  • Who are you calling a terrorist?

  • You are a shame to the humanity .

  • Expressing your art is greater thing to you than to heart a billion people. I cannot imagine the level of selfishness you are holding. Why cannot art stay out of religion. And i simply cannot call this as art. this is an insult to art.. Art is something to express your feelings. if these are ur feelings then how small is ur thinking. I m sure before making the movie you haven't reserched about Ramayana . If you had done that i m sure that ur mind would had changed. God bless you.

  • i am really sorry on that comment that i made earlier, according to my religion i should not use such type of absive language, it is left to my Lord Ram to decide aganist you

  • Nina you are so inspiring!

  • Where can we see the FULL interview?

  • She 's a great woman!

  • Nina, the reason why the actions of the nationalists and the copyright-holders seems so similar is because they exhibit the same kind of behavior: that of a fascist.

    Down to the copyfascists.
