The drums sound like when you shoot coke or smoke crack. Im not saying its cool, im almost 6 months clean but its exactly what happens to your hearing, one of the reasons they call it a bell ringer, the other is the church bells when someone dies.
@mst3k54 I think the south Florida area is way more dangerous than Orlando or Jacksonville. They manipulate the stats with Miami by keeping it just to the Miami Metro area. However, we all know that Miami to most includes north Miami and all the suburban areas south, north and west of the city. I include the stretch up the east coast almost to Ft. Lauderdale. If you include the Ft. Lauderdale area with this crime shoots off the charts.
Just look at the murder rates in any major U.S. city. I live in Jacksonville, Florida and it has overtaken Miami as the homicide capital of Florida. It is a shame!! Any town in my opinion in England or America can relate to this song.
I think chicken town is any were thats basically a shit place to be! so it does not matter were he is describing! plus that is not a salford accent thats more of a wigan or preston area northen speech? if he is from salford he must of lived with someone with a deep bloody northen accent!
You must joking if you think that he has not got a salford accent. Its 100% Salford and sounds NOTHING like a Wigan or Preston accent. The audio on this is very poor though.
Johnny's from Salford in Manchester and he wrote this in the late seventies when he lived there....as with Beasley Street and the rest of his excellent poetry
My dad used to love this guy and when I heard it at the end of a Sopranos episode the other day, I had to look him up. This one and Beasley Street just take me back 25 years... god life was shit in the 80's. BTW, as a Brit living in America, I'd ask if people can refrain from the anti-American comments. It's embarrassing... for you!
Its cos theyr'e all jealous of the standard of living in the US, if they could get green cards they would all be here tomorrow, lived here since 84, still a Brit and proud of it, but would never go back there to live.
It's about Birmingham, UK, you cretinous yanks! Why would an Englishman sing about some obscure city in Alabama!? You know, there is more to the world than your country!
On behalf of my country I'd like to apologize for the following: Ignorance, Wal-Mart, and the Republican Party. Some of us are trying, but these type outnumber us sensible folk.
whats the name of this song? i dont mean him saying that the song with him in it cuz everytime i type chicken town its just him without the music i want this WITH THE music
i've seen JCC perform dozens of times, spoken to him numerouss times & sat drinking & smoking with him several times
he is an extremely approachable bloke
i've seen him dedicate the song to various places, typically overspill new towns (stevenage f'instance), but also to old rust belt cities. if it fits your locale then its about there, regardless of yer country etc.
its also worth checking out Beazley street by him too, ..., its even better, more evocative better wordplay etc
What? Does that sound like an Alabama accent???!!!
JCC is from Salford, England which is a tough, some would argue grim, working class city. I would suggest his home city was the inspiration for this poem not a place it is likely he hadn't even been to at the time of it's writing.

O sangue que observas um sangue vil;
sangue por milhas sangue por milhas;
sangra o bebe sangue de chorar;
flores com sangue o sangue da morte;
sangue é comida e imundo é o sangue;
o sangue desagua sangue incrustrado;
na cena a cor sangue marrom;
sempre aqui na periferia da cidade;
edudeluca 4 years ago
bar sangrento sangue que entorpece;
clubes sangrentos cheios de sangue das meninas sangue de meninos;
assasinato sanguinario dele são os olhos de sangue;
o homem que sangra sangue da facada ;
esperando um taxi sangrento ou agrada sangrando em casa;
o sangue de um vizinho samgue lamentavel;
mas mantenho a sangrenta confusão longe;
este é o sangue na periferia da cidade;
edudeluca 4 years ago
Sangue no trem samgue com atraso;
