The fact is that more and more intern and international flight are overbooked actually. I've read the example of Japan where every aircraft is totally full and lot of passenger are left on the airport to take the next aircraft (that's the main point of overbooking, taking more booking than the aircraft can hold to be sure it will be full). So a 700+ passenger aircraft doesn't sound that stupid to me.
