People dont even realize how expensive this form of racing is, i mean i have a used rod and piston.. new and usable they cost around 7 grand for the rod and piston and they get even more expensive, but they are so light weight, they can only use the rods twice becuase the force applied on the downstroke of the piston actually smashes the rod after two races they can be shorter by .0005 of a inch. Which doesnt seem like much but is in incedible, and each piston puts out 850 EACH!! simply incred.

uhhh, 7 grand hey... average box of 10 pistons, about 1100$, box of 8 childs & albert rods about 1000$, i dont see where you got your 7 grand price figure from, but i work on a nitro car, im not saying that these cars are cheap, but rods and pistons and consumables, have to replace them every 2-3 passes is where things start to get expensive. some of the higher end cranks ive seen go for around 8-9g and if you want a new billet block and heads, lets hope you have 20-25g

No, no, no. One car didn't get hit by the debris from the other. Look at the date of the video - 1998. They were still running nearly 98% nitromethane at the time. The car on the right suffered a blower explosion, while the car on the left kicked a rod out. It was dropping cylinders in the first 300ft. Massive failures like these were all too common at the time, so the NHRA put a limit on the nitro they could use so they would live for the entire run more often.
