Economic sanctions will never work as long as China trades freely with Burma. Indeed, the Chinese welcome all sanctions by the US and Europe. Sanctions against Burma have been in place for nearly two decades. They don't work. It's the same situation with North Korea. China must be pressured to control its ally, but China is making too much money in trade to want anything to change.
Sorry, there is oil in Burma, thats why Total Oil invest and support the milatary Govt. The problem is the Govermnment are "our terrorists" rather than Iraq Govt who were "our terrorists." They are happy to supply oil to us, thats why our US & UK governments have done so little over the past 15 years.
I've just heard that there are protests being held outside the Burma embassy in London every day from 12-1pm, details on the Burma Campaign website.
A good point. We should boycott Total, Petronas and all the other patrolieum companies investing in Burma all together with China and Russia. Once the damage done by the former consumers cannot be conpensated by the profit they get from Burma, they will drag their pig asses out of the country.

SpecialForcesUnitKX - You shouldn't really be commenting. Pretty much the whole of America sees your type as meat heads. There's a reason for that and your comments only lend more credibility to that idea. Oh, and what actual evidence do you have that the monks are US supported? None of this hearsay B.S.
Time to take the global government down to hell and to never return. Long live peace, freedom and our human independence!! Thank you all for protesting and for the prayers. Keep 'em coming, please!
That utterly unfair and ill-motivated comment of yours "SpecialForces" is totally unfair and malicious. These monks, who continue to live in this fascistic and police state up to now, now express their outrage over their government because of their sheer patriotism, and not because they were paid by the US as you said. MONEY is the least reason for this protest since they have been living in terror and tyranny in over two decades... Your comment is uneducated, totally unethical and brazen...
We are in an age, with internet etc., where such actions will light the fires of justice worldwide - for all people to find freedom in their lives. These monks are inspiring.

WE ARE WITH YOU, BURMA! Don't be afraid! The world is watching. We haven't forgotten you! Freedom!

Their bravery is breathtaking. So many times in the past the Burmese government has simply beaten protesters like these to death.
This is utterly breathtaking!
