I think there was a problem with the tailwind. I don't know why the ship would steam into the wind while an aircraft was attempting to land even if a rotary wing? Can anyone tell me if this is a normal procedure! I am informed on good info that the flight crew was very well trained and experienced. @sebjuanthefirst Standard procedure would be the vessel steaming at a course to have the wind from roughly 30° forward from its starboard (right) side. The helicopter would the come to a hover port side of the deck (left) aligned with the ships axxis. You would keep it there and align your helicopter so that the "bump line" on the flight deck (the one 90° to ships axxis) would run straight underneath you pants. Pull it over, settle, let it down. At the given seastate a pretty safe procedure.

Attempt a zero hover landing? On a ship with a deck that small ( any area that small ) I can only wonder if they were trained. If not. Why so? Why was this allowed? Maybe there was a problem with the machine? I don't know but it looks very much like they did not know what to do in order to make this landing work.
