I guess I was in second or third grade when I first heard 'the little red hen' Since I'm about as old as dirt, that was during the McCarthy hearings very early stages of the cold war. Thanks to the teacher, it was my first good explanation of a communist/socialist society and I remember saying to myself something like "what idiot would want to live under those conditions'.
Well, I was a bright little boy back then and I still think that way. But now, I ask, who in the hell elected these morons??
The background song takes me back to the late sixties and makes me think of hippies in a communal lifestyle, like what they had in Taos, New Mexico back then, for example.

My little son has this book and my husband loves reading it to him...unlike "The Rainbow Fish" Which my husband SWEARS promotes communism.
