When he played a song by the Polish band Vader and made a claim that the song was death metal, Homme called them "The Eagles of Death Metal". in fact...you can. you don´t have to be able to write a book to criticize one.

If you criticize something you very often don´t do it yourself, e.g. a car: if you drive a car and that car has got shitty components and behaves crappy you can say "this car is shit" but yuo dont have to build one yourself to be allowed to criticize it, same goes with music.
