Its true that opinions on bands are subjective, but here's an objective way to look at it:
If a band is "the greatest in the world" it is usually because they transformed the art, pushed it to the next level. In what way does Nickelback's rock differ from any other rock band of this era? Sounds the same to me.
That's not even to mention that music is a movement much greater than rock. Much (most?) of the newest ideas in music today come from outside of rock.
Their songwriting is very apropos to this time and world.I think they are creative geniuses.They rock hard,they sing songs of life,mens' lives,women who tease,women treated abusively,they sing with the heart of young men,partyiing,burning that candle at both ends,They come up with fresh music and lyrics consistently,album after album.I am so glad I found them,late but,found them nevertheless and they touch me.

I've heard a lot of songs by Nickelback. I don't consider any their songs to be well written in the slightest. I know that this debate is completely subjective, but I do not find Nickelback's lyrics to be intelligent or thought provoking in comparison to the artists' lyrics I have listed. I doubt many people would agree with your assessment of Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Coner Oberst, and Elliott Smith being average songwriters. Nickelback does not compose difficult songs. That is laughable.
They don't write complex songs but their good enough when traveling aside to the instrumental and the vocal arrangements, but to say bad lyric talking about "Look at this photograph" thats a memory i bet you have one wich you cherish and it's not so much the actual lyric but in how many ways it can be interpreted. Everyone portray their own thoughts onto the lyrics...now if you want a complex song neither Dylan or Lennon have 'em..but if lyric potential yes alike "Heaven & Hell" by Black Sabbath
Instrumentally, Nickelback isn't anything special. Their drummer isn't bad, but their guitar work is at most average. Their average musicianship, coupled with unimaginative and poor lyrics, leads me to my conclusion that Nickelback is a bad band. They don't have anything to make up for their crappy lyrics. Photograph is probably, lyrically, the worst song ever written. I understand that Chad is writing about his memories, but he does it in a such a simple and infantile way ---->

The difference between me and you is that I enjoy lyrics that are thoughful and introspective and you enjoy lyrics that talk about slutty girls, S.E.X., and something being in someones's mouth.

They don't write complex songs but their good enough when traveling aside to the instrumental and the vocal arrangements, but to say bad lyric talking about "Look at this photograph" thats a memory i bet you have one wich you cherish and it's not so much the actual lyric but in how many ways it can be interpreted. Everyone portray their own thoughts onto the lyrics...now if you want a complex song neither Dylan or Lennon have 'em..but if lyric potential yes alike "Heaven & Hell" by Black Sabbath

Instrumentally, Nickelback isn't anything special. Their drummer isn't bad, but their guitar work is at most average. Their average musicianship, coupled with unimaginative and poor lyrics, leads me to my conclusion that Nickelback is a bad band. They don't have anything to make up for their crappy lyrics. Photograph is probably, lyrically, the worst song ever written. I understand that Chad is writing about his memories, but he does it in a such a simple and infantile way ---->

that it makes me question his intellect. It is so straight foward that it is comical. Clearly, he is trying to reach an audience with a lower IQ. Are saying that Bob Dylan and John Lennon's lyrics are simple? Or are you saying song structure? If it's the former I would completely disagree with you, as would most people. The subjects of their songs may be simple, but the way in which they write and phrase lyrics is completely original and brilliant. I can't say the same thing about Chad's

Well that seems to be your view but actually they are above average musicians and their lyrics may be simple but are always presented in a new way...but a bad band na i don't think so and neither should you. And Lennon, Dylan are just overrated by the fact that at the time all their competition were unknowm an never stood a chance, thay aren't bad but they certainly ain't nothing out of this world

Like I said, this argument is completely subjective. You will never convince me that the members of Nickelback are good musicians, and I won't convince you otherwise. It doesn't matter if Dylan's and Lennon's "competition" was unknown, it still doesn't take away from their work. The difference between me and you is that I enjoy lyrics that are thoughful and introspective and you enjoy lyrics that talk about slutty girls, S.E.X., and something being in someones's mouth.

Good point but there's plenty more sides on the dice, and Nickelback may not wander into new lyrical territory but you must admit the arrangement of words is somewhat clever regardless of S.E.X. or Shakin' Hnds themes the lyrics suit the music and build the crescendo and if you checked the fluidness wich they display onstage is quite formidable against all the noobs out there. It is subjective as taste wll never be equal but i just tried to point out that
