  • @bestamerica he is only using it to show you how to make the not it says "i use the pillow case for illustration purposes".

  • knotts have always i trouble remembering them.

  • This knot will not come loose. It will actually get tighter when loaded.

  • Why not just tie a sheet bend?

  • @Mlweitz this is a sheet bend, just made with a loop and passing the rope back through the working end of the loop when the sheet bend is completed, much sturdier if it loosens since the sheet bend only holds firm under tension, if left untensioned, it may untie itself.

  • Just FYI, do not use a bed sheet if you are around 290lbs, 130kg, or about 20 stone. The sheet will rip. Use a stronger material. A person does NOT need to be light weight to use a hammock, the material needs to be strong enough. I sleep in a hammock every night and throught I would try this out to have a cheap hammock I can get dirty on camping trips. Will try with a canvas type material and come back with an update. =D

  • '

that is a blanket bed sheet,,,

a blanket bed sheet is a limit weight,,,

a person must be light weight on a hammock

  • how much rope did you use?

  • To clarify my statement: you began with a loop, which is called a prussik loop, used in making a prussik knot. You used that loop to make a sheet bend, and because the rope is doubled up, it becomes a double sheet bend. A very nice setup.

  • Hey Ray, first and foremost, I love the hammock. I made one with my kids and it's brilliant. Secondly, I was looking for an easy way to attach a rope (from a tree) to the fisherman loop that could be easily untied. I dont like the idea of just a sheet bend, as I am using thick rope. I certainly didn't want a bowline or similar to rub and chafe. I was going to use an Ossel hitch, but wasn't sure I could trust it. I went with a "Simple Simon Double" w/ quick release. What do you think?

  • @bbelikove

    Thanks for your kind comments.

I like that Simple Simon Double knot. Make sure you get it right so it doesn't slip on you.

You can use the Sheet Bend or a Double Sheet Bend with a Half Hitch to make sure.

Always keep an eye on your knots. It sucks to land butt first on the ground -- don't ask me how I know this!

I like the Clove Hitch on a carabiner myself.

  • thx_________cool

  • dude can you at least show us what your starting with rope wise? no one can tell if your starting with a loop or a tied loop?

  • @lnorton89

At 0:32 in the video you can see the Double Fisherman's loop of rope.

Look for the video I have posted on how to tie it. I have many other ways to do this (like with a webbing loop - sewn or tied) on my channel.

    Check it out.

  • Using a prusik loop for the double sheet bend...nice.

    Very simple and efficient.

I am going to use this to make a “under hammock” for my gear.

  • @990plm

I dont see a prusik loop here. And it's not a double sheet bend, it's just a sheet bend with the end tucked through the loop. Not trying to be an elitist, as I dont know shit about knots and have only been studying for a few weeks. I'm hoping you can clarify. NO offense

  • Nice!

  • dbl fishman on rope to rope ends sheet bend for rope to sheet

  • dude what is that not! its not the double fishermans bend

  • the knot is called a sheetbend

  • Can you tell me what knot you are using to keep that cord in a loop?

  • @linxdev Double Fisherman's Bend (in video responses above)

  • @rayd888 Thanks. I've found a queen size bed sheet and am now using it instead of the ENO Double Nest. My issue with the ENO is that we have a poodle and they have long nails. I was afraid she would poke through and rip it. ENO is now regulated to travel and the sheet is the one in my office. I think the sheet is more comfortable. It is cotton and much softer. It was also cheaper (salvage from closet). I did not have paracord so I bought 400# cord from REI. TNX

  • fantastic innovation for a gathered end hammock, this looks much cleaner than the conventional method.

    5/5

  • My god.....I've just made one ! Attached it (using your knots ) diagonally to some heavy eye-loop hooks on my window and door beams....it's perfect !! Thank you so much, I'm really glad I found your video :)

  • awsome I gonna take this backpacking with me

  • Glad you liked it. :)

  • What a great vid. I just paid $30 for a byers moskito.

  • ENO Guardian Bug Net - easy, but not light, and not cheap.

  • how do i attach it to tree? i would be glad if i know :D cuzz i cant get a hammock cuzz it would take a car ride for like 6 hours........

  • Look through my videos -- I have several videos on different ways to tie it to a tree.

Let me know if this helps.

  • O.k. any ideas about how to attach a mosquito net in a super easy way?

  • The knot is a piece of art, secure and can be untied later (1 ton breakstrength climber's rope) ! Have fixed it with two rawlbolts in the wall. Have now given my bed away and have so much more space in my room ! Sooo easy, comfortable and a small footprint in many ways. Polyester-cotton-mix sheets tend to distort and pure cotton, denim-type cotton and canvas worked best for me. Sleeping diagonally is most comfortable.

  • I'm glad you found it useful!

I wish everyone knew about this. -- No one should be without a hammock.

    Hammocks for everyone!

  • This is outstanding. Everyone should know how to do this. No kidding.........it should be a basic, life skill.

  • haha! This is true.

No one should be without a hammock!

  • What kind of fixtures do you use to attach your hammock to the wall? I'm making one for someone who is about 190 lbs.

  • I use 5/16" eye bolts from Home Depot.

Ikea sells these real nice hangers that are fairly cheap, but I haven't tried them yet. They;re like a U attatched to a metal plate with 4 holes. They have it in the children's area to attach those play rope ladders they sell.

I don't post a link here because youtube block them...

  • SWEEEEEEET!!!!!!! 5/5

  • I bought a hammock for myself but our two kids are both wanting one now too, so I'm going to give this a try! Only question is...what is that knot at the very beginning that creates the loop of cord you start with?

  • You can also do it with two Nylon Webbing Runners from REI. $2.75 each.

    It's a webbing sewn into a loop.

Search their website for "Black Diamond 18mm Nylon Runners"

They don't let me post any links in the comments here!

  • Thanks for your comments bina2001, good point on the untying issue.

The other knot does take up more rope and may be harder for some people to tie.

    I like them both ;)

  • Thanks!

Yes, this one is faster and more easy to tie then the erlier one but it was very hard to untie after I had test it. So I think I prefare the erlier knot shown in Easy Hammock 3.

But It's a very good idea to use a bedsheet for this because on this way you got a multiporpose item.
