@Cybergig00 u say that because it looks exotic so u want it 2 hav ferrari and lambo speed but i think for what its worth 5 secs is alright. the skyline and rx7-spirit r do 0-60 in 5 secs and they're pretty fast. besides for the same price u could buy an ariel atom 300 nd no one could stop u
by the way i do like the Evora very much but what i'm saying is that it would be better with a supercharger or a 2.0 turbo(lower tax-better price-more speed)
It is a very nice semi exotic and the Lotus suspension is one one the best in the world. But Lotus really needs to put more Balls in the cars. Turbo those things and they should really fly and be more competitive in a track! Not a SuperCharger like in the elise or exige. Handling can only go so far. It needs straight line speed in my opinion.
Interesting car - and new direction for Lotus. You should check out videos of the elise/honda k20 hybrids on youtube. They eat porsche gt3, ferrari f430 etc.
its to heavy and way way to under powered to b any good... its need a better motor and gear box .. lotus really need to stop using toyota motors in there cars and go work something out with honda.....
Disagree. Toyota make very good engines. The V10 they used in the Lexus LFA is as small as a V8 and as light as a V6. How many other companies could pull that off?
in my head Lotus is great as a stripped out racer rather than a rather expensive road car. i mean you'll have to be crazy to chose the Evora over the Cayman as an every day car
Why? Build quality would be a good reason to choose the porsche, though the toyota engine is bullet proof, performance would be very similar as would depreciation and looks are entierly subjective. The evora's design probably isn't to everybody's liking but it'd be sure to turn more heads.
well reliability is not an issue for most of the proper modern cars but build quality is. you see the market that the Evora is competing in is dominated by Porsches as the best all rounder. i could talk all day about the tech that Lotus has put in that car but that wouldn't matter because the price is very close to an after all great car (handling included), the Cayman
I don't think so. The Lotus has nearly as much kit, is more comfortable and drives better. And since they're using Toyota engines these days, reliability isn't an issue anymore.
The Porsche Cayman is probably better made, I won't deny that. But If you drive around in a Cayman, everyone's going to think you couldn't afford a 911. But the Evora is the most expensive car Lotus makes (until the new Esprit comes along) so that won't have the same problem.
True - it does look quite similar. The Carrera GT is (in my opinion) the only good looking Porsche (was I should say, since they don't make them anymore). Although, if you drove a Cayman through a town, no one would look twice. If you drove any Lotus through a town, you'd draw up a much bigger crowd.
Lotus have really come into their own in recent years. Now, you would have a genuinely good reason for choosing one over a Porsche.
ok now it is a fact that the Cayman is a better road car as a package but the Lotus has the character a real driver looks for. that is also what Clarkson closed the review with
its true though. they're both great cars dnt get me wrong but the cayman is just a boxster with a roof and is right smack dab in the middle between a boxster and 911 on everythin. but the evora is completely new design so u can tell lotus truly wanted to change while porsche has kept the same design for almost 50 years
You know, this is the only ever mid engined car with 4 seats. And you can actually use the back seats, they're not just there so they can market it as a 4 seater.
But Lotus will sell it to you with just two seats if you want.
@NobleM15fan it's not a 4-seater, it's a 2+2. As for mid-engined cars with 4 seats (actually, 2 little back seats): Maserati Merak, Ferrari Mondial and GT4. So not "only ever", just "only current".
Oh, and screw a Cockster. Unless you're a Porsche nut, or think a VW Beetle is something stylish, I can see why someone would choose the Cockster which is what, the 2nd cheapest out of many 911 variant Porsches? Not to mention, the Evora is more fuel efficient. It doesn't look like other Lotus models, it isn't even lifted from a previous chassis and it's not the slowest hard top in the manufacturer's line of cars.
I imagine lotus will make a powerfuk version by supercharging the V6 and removing the rear seats. What I wonder is how much better will it be than the Exige S2xx and will they market it with the Exige still in production.
Most people replying are blind to the potential of that V6 as it is one of the best engines ever produced. It is capable of handling a LOT more power than it's currently producing.
anyone know the opera-like song in the background of this video (5:00)? I think it's similar if not the same one in the Lexus LFA commercial. I'd love to know it!
They weren't necessarily small. The old Esprit was available with a V8. I've only recently started to like Lotus - I didn't like the Esprit or the Europa, and the Elise looked great but it was rubbish when it had the Rover engine.
true the esprit was badass and i hope they remake it with a v-8 in it! I forgot all about that esprit, it has a wounderful engine in it! made love lotus in the first place. the inline fours by ford are horrible but they make great v8s
The Evora is the replacement of the Esprit, and I hope they do a V8 version of that. Since they're using Toyota engines now, they could use the 5.0 litre from the Lexus IS-F. Or the supercharged 4.6 from the Roush Mustang. Either way, we need a fast hardcore version of the Evora - so it goes as good as it handles.
@NobleM15fan no, they're going to release a new spirit, the Evora is a Porsche Cayman rival.
The New Spirit is supposed to rival the 911 GT2, the Gallardo and the 458. Is rumored that it will come with both the 500 hp V10 from the LF-A and the 417 hp V8 from th IS-F in a simillar approach to the Audi R8.
that would be cool but i think that would be too big of a car for it to have the lotus name on it... they advertise that "less is more" so i think they will use a very small V8, like a 3.8L, that is twin turbo like what McLaren is in their new car, the MP4-12C
@NobleM15fan But what if the extra weight screws up the handling? I think Lotus is smart enough to avoid it, but it would be possible. A supercharged version of the current six, with some heavy mods could give a similar output. It will be heavier, but probably not as much as the V8s.
I think the ISF engine would be fantastic however.
A bigger engine doesn't have to mean bad handling just so long so long as you change the brakes, suspension and chassis to cope with the extra power, which I'm sure Lotus would do. They wouldn't want to ruin their reputation.
I hope someday they do a more powerful Evora, because that's the only bad thing about the Evora. They could fit the ISF engine, enlarge the current V6, fit twin turbos or a supercharger.
They are going to remake the Esprit with a V8 - probably the 5 litre from the Lexus IS-F. I'm making a video now featuring it - would you like me to send it to you when it's finished?
still, one of the biggest company in the world asked them to adjust the handling in one of their cars, that means they are very good, and they also design the bodies of their cars and they look good
true, they do their magic on the handling and body manufacturing (including aerodynamics) only (apart from other minor stuff) which means they spend less on R&D and more on the fun side of the car
I thought JC was exaggerating about the comfort and the brakes, but apparently, my friend's friend's rich dad got a chance to drive one, and says, it is unbelievable, the brakes and shock absorbers. And yet, it still is a "lotus" if u kno wat I mean.
Not too shabby, lotus always seems to make the best performing cars. I think the reason the interior is so messed up is cause they usualy dont have interiors in their cars, normaly they are empty with a seat, steering wheel, shifter.
Actualy I worked on benz for a year and if you want a headache in car matainence get a benz. Lotus probably isnt far off but atleast they are worth it. Mercedes lose value in america very quick unless your rich enough to pay for the many labor hours and overpriced chinese made parts ordered from germany. But I geuss none of this is a problem if your rich anyway.
true true, but it could be worse, you could be working on a honda or a toyota where everything might as well be backwards lol. and nothing is really made in the same country that they should be in...
Ford/Chevy/Dodge --- mexico
honda/mercedes --- U.S.
aston martin --- Austria
Audi --- Germany (but you have to spend money to pick your car up at the factory)
But anything expensive is going to be a pain to work on... it is just a fact of life... sadly
You are so right. You see a 911 in the street (in Britain anyway, don't know about the USA) it's just: "Oh look, another 911." You see a Lotus, it's "Wow, a Lotus!" The good thing about a Lotus is, that although it may not have as much power as a 911, the handling is so good you can use more of it for more of the time.
I sometimes wish i lived in britian, i love the us, but if you have any kind of porsche, you are "rich" which makes me mad. porsches are not as common here as europe, but they are still a dime a dozen in big cities. they aren't that cool to me as a audi r8 or a lotus which are both main competitors.
I wouldn't say we've got more problems than anyone else - just the media blows them all way out of proportion.
World's going to hell? Well, that's one view, and I'm not going to argue because I don't like going down that route. As to what you can do? Simple. Do what you enjoy, make the most of your life, and let the rest of the world deal with its problems.
another argument for buying the Lotus: this may sound a bit, well, arrogant and egoistic but with a big Lotus like that you'll stand out a mile! its so much rarer and has so much more supercar loks and presence!
Forget the Gallardo. The main achievement of the Evora is beating the Porsche Cayman S which cost about the same and it's more comfortable....... And it has a bigger luggage space..... and it's more economical..... and it seems that it's a better car to drive aswell ;P
hmm about that luggage space i couldent help noticing you are completley wrong i happen to have the cayman S and you forget that it has 2 boots front and back, much more then the evora wich i sat in when i was at the frankfurt motor show 2 weeks ago. not to mention the german quality, wich is the best kind and that i have the new cayman with direct injection with 30 more bhp then the one top gear tested. end of
I quite forgot about the luggage space. Probably because it's a Porsche and I always keep in mind about that engine at the back and completely forgot about the Cayman's engine in the middle.
Though how the good is the car depends on how satisfied is the owner. I'm sure you're satisfied with you Cayman. I actually like the Cayman along with the Cayenne and GT3 and you could include the Panamera although I think it's a bit cold compared to the Maserati Quattroporte.
Let me guess.... most of them who are satisfied with their Porsche have 911s I'd be satisfied to own a 911 Turbo as well in black with cream leather interior.
I'd go for the cheaper Boxster as well with the same exterior and interior color.
im a freak like this.. but if you watch Tiff Fifth Gear Review on the Lotus Evora. You'll notice that its the SAME exact Car.. Look at the license plate @ 6:29 it "AU09 AKK" and look at the plate on Fifth Gear @ 1:10
The Evora is nice as hell and it uses a VERY DEPENDABLE TOYOTA V6 Engine =D. LOTUS has gotten a really good car. This car is a million times better than a PORSHE =D. Also its a very practical car =D. Porches are soo common. Lotus =D
I agree, all you see is Porches 911's and boxsters everywere, they dont give that woooo factor anymore because they are so common. This new Lotus which is in a similar price range looks and sounds amazing! i say you would turn a few heads with it!
Everyone would look at it in my opinion. Lotus Evora is just beautiful. Imagine if they add a turbo or a supercharger which is possible to do after you can tune it yourself it would be much more amazing.
That car is beautiful. But i'd rather have a nissan GT-R for the 50 grand. Jeremy said it was quiet and comfortable, and it's a lot faster around the track.

you don't want to live in Britain. Most British don't want to live in Britain. lol I mean unless you love taxes.
XR4turbo 2 years ago
lol true. i think it would be fun to stay in europe for at least a year though.
daltonklinkenberg 2 years ago
I'm British, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Yeah we've got problems, but what country hasn't?
NobleM15fan 2 years ago
Shit man I know...we got more problems than just about anyone. World's goin to hell, what can ya do.
XR4turbo 2 years ago
I wouldn't say we've got more problems than anyone else - just the media blows them all way out of proportion.
World's going to hell? Well, that's one view, and I'm not going to argue because I don't like going down that route. As to what you can do? Simple. Do what you enjoy, make the most of your life, and let the rest of the world deal with its problems.

another argument for buying the Lotus: this may sound a bit, well, arrogant and egoistic but with a big Lotus like that you'll stand out a mile! its so much rarer and has so much more supercar loks and presence!

Lotus Evora 1:25.7
Porsche Cayman S 1:26.7
Forget the Gallardo. The main achievement of the Evora is beating the Porsche Cayman S which cost about the same and it's more comfortable....... And it has a bigger luggage space..... and it's more economical..... and it seems that it's a better car to drive aswell ;P
mondeost2202008 2 years ago 5
hmm about that luggage space i couldent help noticing you are completley wrong i happen to have the cayman S and you forget that it has 2 boots front and back, much more then the evora wich i sat in when i was at the frankfurt motor show 2 weeks ago. not to mention the german quality, wich is the best kind and that i have the new cayman with direct injection with 30 more bhp then the one top gear tested. end of
Hizzak123123 2 years ago
I quite forgot about the luggage space. Probably because it's a Porsche and I always keep in mind about that engine at the back and completely forgot about the Cayman's engine in the middle.
Though how the good is the car depends on how satisfied is the owner. I'm sure you're satisfied with you Cayman. I actually like the Cayman along with the Cayenne and GT3 and you could include the Panamera although I think it's a bit cold compared to the Maserati Quattroporte.

i prefer the Carrera GT.

Porsche has the highest customer satisfaction of any car company according toe the studies.
dangrbitch 2 years ago
Let me guess.... most of them who are satisfied with their Porsche have 911s I'd be satisfied to own a 911 Turbo as well in black with cream leather interior.
I'd go for the cheaper Boxster as well with the same exterior and interior color.

the CLK black that Clarkson drove to the end of England is the same car that Jason Plato powersliding in Silverstone
that's rather common to be honest =]

They'll probably supercharge it within a year or two.

sick car, could use a turbo though
Thedudemanification 2 years ago
omg exactly if they add a turbo this car would be SICK!
CSplayahata 2 years ago
The Evora is nice as hell and it uses a VERY DEPENDABLE TOYOTA V6 Engine =D. LOTUS has gotten a really good car. This car is a million times better than a PORSHE =D. Also its a very practical car =D. Porches are soo common. Lotus =D
CSplayahata 2 years ago 4
well, sort of...
ymaniac07 2 years ago
I agree, all you see is Porches 911's and boxsters everywere, they dont give that woooo factor anymore because they are so common. This new Lotus which is in a similar price range looks and sounds amazing! i say you would turn a few heads with it!
PinappleMatt 2 years ago 3
Everyone would look at it in my opinion. Lotus Evora is just beautiful. Imagine if they add a turbo or a supercharger which is possible to do after you can tune it yourself it would be much more amazing.

That car is beautiful. But i'd rather have a nissan GT-R for the 50 grand. Jeremy said it was quiet and comfortable, and it's a lot faster around the track.
SloppyPiano 2 years ago
SloppyPiano, I hope you're not talking about the new GTR, because they run for $80,000 to $100,000.
Unless you're talking about pounds.
