I think that this film is making a profound and confronting statement not just about substance use, but also about inequality and the homelessness it causes and sustains. If the rich families in this film, or all the people who walked by them at the train stations, had of given just a little bit of their money to them, or had of linked them up with a drug and alcohol service, then maybe she wouldn’t have OD'ed, and they may actually be where it is sunny and warm, in Califonia.

@scramshit No i think that substance use lies way more deeply than being just able to be solved with money alone, as it's a vicious cycle like the girl in this film explained, to forget... That's all you know when you're on the streets though. I think that better access to safe and affordable housing would solve these things, access to drug and alcohol and counselling services would solve it. Nothing can just undo the damage done to someone that causes substance use though. Nothing.

@scramshit Having said this though i think that no one should just write homeless people off like so many did in this film. I think that that is a mistake and it is a foolish one to make. The couple in this film have had to fight so hard just to breathe and i think that they are not beyond hope. No one is beyond hope - and i think more people need to look at and understand that there is a story behind homeless peoples' behaviour that has led them to where they are today.
