Yep i was there, fantastic,Zepp were past their best and where i was standing had poor sound, but wouldn't have missed it for the world, was still great;only wish i'd seen them in 1979!
Hi there - yes that's me on drums. That was an amazing gig, very windy and cold on stage and quite difficult to hear the stage monitors but a great vibe, both onstage and off. Playing Zep tracks with Planty and Jimmy was an honour and a very difficult thing to do. I mean if you copy Bonzo then you are accused of not being Bonzo and if you put your own slant on it then you are accused of not being true to the original because you are not Bonzo! Anyway, thanks for posting!
@chiswaah chris i totally understand what you mean, you had to walk a very thin line. but you did a great job. i always wanted to know what its like personally for a musician such as yourself, to play with a legend like robert did it make you nervous? was he welcoming to your own musical styles?
Hey everyone! I heard a song yesterday in a pub that has got a very similar riff to MMH, I'd even say the same riff, but a bit faster, and I can't find it anywhere. Sounds like it was released after Led Zeppelin, maybe in 90's or 00's. Any help from anyone?
Actually, these guys are about 40-42 years old at the time this concert took place, and the video recorded. Do you mean they're old enough now (in 2010)? Not dissin' your comment at all ... just pondering the "grandparents" part. Peace, AHA
I always get a kick out of the faces on the other musicians as they watch Page rip thru these riffs.....its like father lion showing the cubs how to bring down an antelope.............................with ease....
Oh, Christ dude, Page sucks on this compared to what he played on the record, which was brilliant. Face it, Page is a blown out has-been, too screwed from years of drug and alcohol abuse to pull off his early brilliance live. I saw him in a show at Reunion Arena in Dallas in '82 when he couldn't remember the transition to the solo in "Stairway to Heaven." It was bloody pathetic!
you're just another moron spewing the myth that page doesn't play well anymore. i doubt you ever really appreciated his sound, so stop trolling, fool.
the truth hurts, dope. I loved Jimmy Page from LZ one up through when Bonzo died. But he just isn't s sharp as he used to be. Live with the truth, you wanker, and stop being a toe-sucking Page home-boy, it's really pathetic.
This proformace is night and day better than the 1979 one. Plant sounds Soooo much better. and Page looks likes hes having fun again. dont do dugs kids
The Magick was back at this gig knebworth 1990 for sure both Roberts gig and of course when Jimi came up but were can you get thoe whole show? I had It on vhs and now on dvd but not all songs seems to be on
Tickets to this gig were my 13th birthday present. I thought plant was the guitarist from deep purple and thought it was going to be shit. His first half was great, then this happened. Never heard any Zep, and it was like an electric shock going through 125000 people. I believe the drummer was called Chris Blackwell and he did an amazing job. The closest I have ever come to a religous experience! Thanks for posting!
When did i say the performance was good? I said you can 't call this Zeppelin, and I also said that Led Zeppelin live wasn't subpar, for the record damn right it is a good performance you ghoulish clam!

I think its ridiculous how just about every live led zeppelin video I've seen today has gotten a rating of 5 stars. Some of these performances are hardly subpar.
I dont. And anyways, you say "these performances" as if this is Zeppelin, its not. Its Page and Plant playing a Zeppelin song. Anyways remember most of these videos are from the 1970's, sound recording wasnt as good as it is now, and they are mostly unmixed, not a true sound of the band. Don't mean to pick up on this comment so much but they are far too good to be called "subpar".
I don't think you understand what i tried to say...I know its not JOHN Bonham, but zeppelinchamp77 said JASON, and i just corrected him...I know its not John Bonham playing...
they should get rid of him and all the other twits, get jpj and the 3 of them should rock with bonhams drumming recordings! or at least the second best drummer who ever lived.
At the time this was broadcast on MTV, I had serious doubts whether LZ could carry off a quality sounding concert. Song Remains The Same, Live Aid and Atlantic Records 40th had me convinced it couldn't be done by them. Must be something special about Knebworth.
the song remains the same wasn't a poor quality concert by any means.. and live aid was just thrown together with little to no practice time with two garbage drummers that couldn't hold a candle to bonham, which is why it was awful and why zepp didn't want it to get released.
here, though, page has been off the hard stuff for a while, and it really shows.
It's great to hear this version with the three part vocals, bass and keyboards and two guitars. You'd really miss Jonesy though. His talent cannot be replaced
