I remember watching this in the theater when I was 5. I went with my cousin and my mom. Like all of the audience, my cousin and I cried when Mufasa died. But we cried for an additional reason. We were both raised by single mothers and we both wanted a dad like Mufasa. It hurts us how not even in fiction a really awesome dad could exist, let alone one for us.

Towards the beginning, when Scar says "A father/son.....thing" he says it with annoyance as if he is remembering his experiences with his father. I believe that Mufasa was treated differently by their father and Scar felt unloved and outcasted. He may have jealosy towards Simba and his relationship with his dad. That could be one reason why Scar hates his family
