  • Good job!! :)

  • @domalaonric Thanks.

  • Just a quick thing sir, for "oh yeah, huh...", "oo nga ano..." I think is more appropriate. "oo nga pala" is usually used when saying, "oh and by the way...".

ex: "Huwag mong kalimutan, lalabas tayo mamaya."

"Sige, hindi ko kakalimutan. Paalam. Oo nga pala, gustong sumama ni Maria sa atin."

  • @Wingcapt4 Excellent! Thanks for your very helpful comments.

  • honky3 is right, pala = after all

  • i like the machine gun part! lol

  • Kakatuwa ung accent mo dyan @3:30..nice. NAKAKA-bilib kayo sir.

  • I would say the best definition for "pala" is "afterall".

  • magaling naman yong accent mo nga

  • @mychal513 Salamat!

  • Bob, you may me laugh, even those tricky word you know.

  • NGA NGA NGA NGA!!!!!!!!!!!

  • magaling magaling.

  • wow thanks for explaing nga and pala...I have a little difficulty explaining it to my foreign friend. I just thought we filipinos like to prolong our sentences (which is clearly not the case.)

  • Wow! I like this! he's very informative and I've learned something about the translation. Im a pinoy working here in America. Thanks Bud Brown! Mabuhay ka!

  • wau ang galing mo sa tagalog pala... ahhaa

  • haha Good one!

  • Wow . Ang galing galing mo po talaga lolo ! Saludo ako sa'yo ! =X

  • ur good, ur good :). im dancing here. hehe... i gave ur link to my bf.

  • what if someone speaks really fast tagolog and ur barely learning and its hard to understand?

  • hehe~ i love the wife&food part the exression on ur face is so funny~

  • salamat! but i don't think u tought us what "who", "when", and "how" means yet.

  • yes, except for statements that already include a "question word" ( who, what where, when and how). Example:

    "Ano ang pangalan mo?

    What is your name?

  • @MagicMaximo sir its not hindi malamig pala, its "hindi pala malamig" its confusing especially if its not your first language but i understand...anyweiz you rock! keep up the vids, hope to see you in national television here in the Philippines , one day i know you'll have your own show, "tagalog language for americans". you'll be a great host!you rock!!!

  • @boypula Thanks for the correction. "Hindi pala malamig". And thanks for your patience with me.

  • @boypula Already featured in GMA 7 last Oct 28.

  • so if I wanted to ask somebody a question, I would need to add "ba" at the end or else it would be left a statement?

  • what does "ganun" mean or little words like "ba"?

  • ganoon means "Like that."

BA makes a question from a statement.

    Example:

    Mainit = It's hot.

Mainit ba? = Is it hot?

  • when using "pala", you put it before the adjective if its negative.. like your example, it should be, "hindi pala malamig"..but if its positive, it goes after the adjective.

  • Thank you very much for the correction!

  • wow..this is great..:)

  • Hmmmm...nise !

  • marami bang banyaga na gustong matuto managalog? i think tagalog/filipino is the easiest language to learn. marami bang nagpapaturo sa iyo? if there's anyone out there who needs tutoring in tagalog, msg me. Pinoy Pride!

  • you could have used "oo nga, pala!" in the earlier example: "malamig sa labas!" "hindi.... ay, oo nga pala!"

  • NICE!!!HAHAHA!

I'm a Filina but I can't explain things that good.

Good luck and God bless to you and your family.

  • Ay Oo nga pala (with emphasis to "pala") nakalimutan kong sabihin sa iyo na Ok ka, bilib ako sa tagalog mo. Thank you again...

  • Salamat, pre!

  • I think this is useful to my brother in law. They live in UTAH and he tries to learn Tagalog. Thanks Magic Maximo, I'll recommend this to my best buddy (my brother in law). Para pag pumunta siya dito sa Australia o pag pumunta ako sa UTAH tagalog ang conversation namin. Salamat ulit, kaibigan...

  • Nice video. Helps alot. THnaks for sharing.

  • wow... ang galing mo~

  • ur really good lol.

  • so skilled in tagalog really appreciate all you're videos for learning tagalog hope you can make more when you have time.. again thanks for sharing!

  • why thank you for this explanation and video! :D

  • haha. Eh is more common especially here in Bulacan and other provinces like batangas and laguna who are said to have "punto" or accent.

  • I didn't know that. I only imitate the way my wife speaks. Thanks for the helpful comments.

  • napaka galing mo naman mag tagalog!!!

    your very good at tagalog!!!

  • PALA is similar to "OH YEAH" or "OH YES". For example "Oh Yeah, there it is".

  • Many of us use "eh" though it doesn't have any significant meaning.

    "oo nga eh!"

    "Malamig nga sa labas eh!"

    "Wala pa ngang tumawag eh!"

lol I speak Tagalog fluently since I was a child and I never found an explanation to the word "eh" Lol.

  • I tell people it's just for emphasis, that's just the way it seems. :=)

  • The 'eh' is also like saying 'huh'. For example, "it's cold outside huh" (but pronounced more like 'haw' than in question form)

If i'm correct, its also like when canadians say 'eh'. "It's cold, eh" but yes, its just for emphasis.

  • Yeah, you are right about that. My father use that a lot, especially when he is about to take a crap. "Natatae na nga ako eh!" It even get worst when he starts doing it eh, eh, eh, ehhhhh!

  • hahahahahaha!

  • Mr.Brown, thankyou so much to learn an other language is not to easy. I try to pick up words here and there but to hear how they sound makes it easy. Keep up the great work ,love your videos.

  • pala means also in other ways....

hindi naman pala malamig sa labas eh= it is not cold here outside

  • other words that starts in ng- in tagalog:

    nga

    ng= of

    ngunit= but

ngongo= adjective of those people who has cleft palate

    ngayon= today or now

    nguso= mouth

    ngisi= fake smile

    ngiti= smile

  • Thanks for your helpful comments.

  • waa ang galing ni kuya.

  • astig po kayo ser! galing. salamat at isa kayo sa mga taong sumosuporta sa linggwahe nmin.hehe

  • this person teaching everyone how to speak Tagalog is you right? i mean.. this person on camera is you? or did you just find this video somewhere??

  • haha, yes it's me.

  • some words with ng...

    nganga...

    ngongo...

    nguso...

    langaw...

    haha

  • Good observations, "pala" is like "after all", and "nga" is like "indeed".

I think these are called inflections. I hope you could cover the other meanings of 'nga' and other inflections as well if you haven't done yet. I'm sure it would be fun.

  • naluha ako sa kakatawa...hehe. Especially at the later part of the vid, when you were impressed with yourself.

Ang galing galing nyo po. :D

  • ehe....hirap paniwalaan na may nagpapakahirap para lang matutunan ang lingwahe natin...nyaahahha

  • OO nga, tama ang sinabi mo! Salamat! :=)

  • or and you can say hindi nga pala malamig. You're right. it isn't cold. The nga pala is referring back to something someone else said. and by the way, "oo, nga pala," can be used into two ways. As "oh by the way," or when answering someone, Oh yes what you said was right."ah oo nga pala, tama ang sinabi mo."

  • I think you also say hindi pala naman malamig. Oh it isn't cold after all. Pala and naman have to be used together as after all.

  • lol it always went automaticly, but now you're talking about it you are right xD

    very nice man!

    salamat, paalam

  • wow! you're good...

magaling ka nga... magaling ka talaga!

hehehe... nest tym will be the word "talaga"

  • oo nga, tama ka!

  • very interesting obsrvations

    your good

  • tama ka! Yeah, I messed up there. Thanks for the correction. I hope the listeners to this video read your comments.

  • "Oh it isn't cold!"

I think it's better translated to as "hindi pala malamig"... this is the case when you negate an adjective with the word "hindi"... ex. hindi pala mainit (oh it isn't hot) or hindi pala maganda (oh it isn't beautiful)... it sounds rather awkward if you put "pala" at the end than putting it right after "hindi"...

  • congratulations man, I watched all your videos and I can say that helped me a lot, please keep it going, you are doing a very good job, I do like to learn new languages as well, I'm a brazilian who lives in japan, so I do speak portuguese, english, japonese and I'm trying to learn about tagalog, please keep the great job you doing.. I really cant wait for the next video, once again congratulations, you doing a very good job and I'm learning a lot w/ your videos.

  • Thanks for your kind comments. Another video is coming out soon...about where English has one word, Tagalog has two (more specific)

  • ang galing mo kuya!!... im visaya 2! taga saan sa visaya ang asawa mo?

  • Salamat! (Ang asawa ko taga CDO)

  • Diyos ko, ang husay ng iyong mga leksiyon. I'm also an American married to a Visayan (almost 30 years). I did self-study (Aspillera's balarila). Your observations are really consistent with what I learned from the book, as well as from listening to conversation. Hindi ako marunong magbisaya -- except stuff I saw on signs in the Phils, like "andam sa ido" and "Kini ang beer." Kailan ang susunod na leksiyon?

  • Is there a part 13 etc...?

  • At this time, Aug13,2007, there are only up to this one..part 12. When I have time I will make more :=)

  • you could actually say ganon nga pala

  • Thanks, I didn't know that.

  • Your so good! My dad speaks a little bit tagalog. He's good at catching some words when me and my mum talk our language..

  • That's ok if you have an accent. I am an Americano speaking Tagalog with a visaya accent (I learned Tagalog from my Visayan asawa)but at least you can speak. There is a saying, "In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king!" Hey, you may have only one eye but at least you can see!

  • Mas magaling ka pa sa akin magtagalog... I speak Visaya and English but my tagalog sucks...They would laugh at me because of my accent! (*_*)

  • Konti lang pala interesado sa tagalog. Hay..

    Buti pa Japanese marami.

  • your good..i wish i can teach my boyfriend to talk tagalog

  • pare.. youre good ha? magaling! keep up!

  • salamat, pare.

  • that is a good analogy

  • Thanks so much for your comments. I think, I've rattled on in Tagalog and no one has realy taken the time to correct me. It's better to correct me so I can learn the right way. Kinda like a real freiend will tell you if your walking around with your zipper open, di ba? Salamat. pare!

  • Walang anuman, 'pre! :-)

When we were younger, we would tell the guy whose zipper was open: "Pare, open city..."

  • That reminds me...in my family we usually say "XYZ" (meaning "examine your zipper") However, when I tried to teach my wife that, she'd say in public, "Honey, your XYZ is open!" haha, kinda defeated the purpose! LOL

  • Your amazing man, you speeks tagalog realy good i wish i,m like you can i have your email address thatway i can keep in touch with you,

  • Sure, my email is budATmagicmaximoDOTcom. I have to write it that way or YouTube won't post it. I try to answer my emails as fast as I can but you might have to be patient.

  • Hi Bud!

"Pala" (in your video) means "afterall."

Pala comes after the adjective if the sentence is in the positive. ("Ooooh, malamig pala.")

Pala comes before the adjective if the sentence is in the negative. ("Hindi pala malamig.")

"Nga pala..." at the start of the sentence means "By the way..." (for people who suddenly remembered what they forgot to tell you).
