I was 3 years old at the time woodstock took place living in Fort Knox Ky, my dad was in vietnam, 3 tours, and he hated everything to do with that time , any music that made a statement, hated any collage, he was spit on getting off the plane returning home by some long haired dude on a motercycle, He knocked the dude and his girlfriend of of the bike and got busted for it by the military, i have been through woodstock, (Bethel) as a truck driver, I have a huge fascination with that era myself
I wonder if people who attended woodstock ever come on youtube and look up these videos to try and find themselves in the vids. That would mindfuck me if I was them hahaha
@prismetumblr found my stand alone 2" by 4" picture of just myself in the official `69 woodstock photo book while browsing in a book store a few years back. totally blew my mind. i had no idea a photographer had taken my picture. it is such a cool thing being able to show people that picture , especially being a musician.
does anyone know the name of the guy or video that was in omega man of woodstock? it had this hippy kind of guy saying things like " We're all here because we know whats really important ........... to get along as human beings " and so forth.
This is amazing I'm ashamed of my own generation that can't look past Twitter and facebook to see how great things could be without it, that generation I envy and always will Woodstock was amazing and I hope it's never forgotten.
God Id give enything to have been there and just experience the love that was there nobody cared how they looked or tried to act cool it was amazing everything that took place.
This generation was one of the greatest, I agree. And I also agree that this world only gets worse and worse. We people are making it that way. But it isn't perfect now, it wasn't then, and won't be tomorrow and years to come.
The only thing we CAN do is care. We CAN make ourselves better, and help others. We have to remain optimistic, and while appreciating the good times then, stay attuned to now. Look forward to the future and do what YOU can to make it right.
Thank you for posting. This is was so much fun to watch as someone born in the 70's. My generation has a fantastical view of this time in history. I am in awe of how people could come together without modern technology and really make a difference.

I'm not sure how the conversation got turned to obesity. These people in the video were teenagers. Relax everybody. If it makes you feel better about america, I live in Hollywood and know absolutely NO fat people. ;-)
This is the moderator speaking - yeah, the comments here are being screened, some people are saying some nasty stuff that's not in the spirit of Woodstock - anyway, I'm imposing a moratorium on comments about the weight and eating habits of those who attended the festival.
@rbedick No problem. Scan if you must and you probably should, too many Woodstock/hippy haters around. Funny you should write now, I've spent the past 47 hours & 17 minutes (so far) DLing the entire (or damn near) concert from someone online. After I started that DL, I found another that looks to be MUCH fuller, so I'll grab that, too, but I probably have even more stuff that neither source has!!
Great video.Sure wish I could recreate this.Anyone with money to spare wanting to get a promoter together I'm your guy.Just tell me what to do and I"ll do it.

@DritonGusia The grass does remember. and the hippie movement lives! peace and love live on. The PSYCHEDELIC REVOLUTION lives. Good spirited people live on, as well. just alot of people are freaked out about showing it. Long live Hippies.
@hardinmarc WRONG! . " in our hearts there burned a fire , while we danced in the pouring rain ,and forty years later i still carry the flame" from "woodstock man"
@perciful1 It could be because they are still young. It is mostly because of less processed food and being more active. There was probable not as much high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated this and that put into food. They had good eating habits because they did not grow up on fast food. Their mothers probably cooked for them most nights.
@perciful1 It's amazing how fast humanity got messed up after the industrial revolution... hopefully more will come back to the grass roots of healthy eating habits.
@perciful1 that's too funny. I was just going to post the same comment. There's rarely anyone overweight, and if so, not by much....and it's generally a female. :) we think alike. good observation.
@perciful1 That's because fast food joints were unheard of back then. Yeah, McDonalds existed back then but I never saw one until the early 70's. We didn't sit at home in front of the tv all day either.
Ditto. I am of the same mind & am appalled at the numerous 20 & 30 year-old fat slobs I see in the public.
Being of the Flower Children generation, I'm proud to say I'm still slim & trim & love kick-box aerobics as well as swing dancing like a maniac. I also work out at a local gym where most of the 20 & 30 year olds are slim & trim. Gosh it's like visiting 1960's, an awesome era in which to have lived.
@perciful1 Yes, compare that to the same age group today and you'd have to build wheelchair ramps everywhere just to get their fat asses there. No. They couldn't be bothered, really.
It is so sad that this could never happen today. People today are to quick to violence for stupid reasons like racism, religion and well pretty much anything. This is proof that drugs like cannabis and LSD are not evil things that make men do horrible things. Close to half a million people and no violence today you can't get more than a few hundred people together without some morons getting into a fight over some stupid shit.
@Louis69 Thats because of all the religion stuff we have encapsulated in the society today. I dont think i have to mention what kind of religion im thinking of.
@Louis69 You obviously ain't ever been to Glastonbury. Every year it's like Woodstock. 150, 000. Young and old, terrific vibes and music and drugs. The spirit will never die, dude.
@Louis69 there's a project to do this in Italy at the end of September, but it's not sure. Please check the Beppe Grillo's blog, easy to find by google (ita with many pages translated in english and japanese). Article of 08july is about this.

@Louis69 Uh sorry but LSD is bad. Yes it can make you feel good but shouldnt you feel good without it being chemically induced. This shit and meth and all that shit feels good but is toxic. Please dont endorse drug use. I mean really if its so great how about giving some to your children
@siscotree You are very misinformed. You compared Meth to LSD... That is very inaccurate comparison. LSD is not toxic and is not known to cause long term side-affects. It is arguably bad for people who show signs of mental illness such as schizophrenia, but that is a small percentage of the population and therefore it is my belief that LSD should not be illegal or frowned upon when used properly. My advice for you, is to do a bit of research before condemning something you know little about.
you know, maybe 'the happening's' are not produced on a grand scale like woodstock, but there are small numerous gatherings of psychedelic culture sprouting up all over the place... much of it is in a small segment of the 'rave scene'. it is happening and it is growing...
@HairBallVegas I live in an area of South Africa where there are psychedelic Trance Parties almost every weekend of the summer. They are fantastic, the nicest people. Everyone says hello and asks how you are, like you matter to them. You cant find that sort of culture anywhere else. If you had to go up to someone in a night club and ask them how they are they would most probably want to beat you. Weird isnt it, that it is a sort of taboo to "care" about anyone else except yourself?
It's the type of music that makes people love each other. There a never problems at raves and other houseparties, just like the trance party you describe above. It's all about sharing love and hug eachother, just like back in the 60's. :)
Especially when people use X, there are never problems! :)
@TellingYouTwice Actually..you're wrong. There were only three deaths at Woodstock, all of which were accidents. Although The Summer of Love was one of the most violent gatherings of US history, Woodstock was entirely violence-free. (:
woodstock really sucked way too many people lots of drugs no food to speak of the bands who were all stoned out of their gourds thought they were making the music of the divine but they just sucked! and what about all that chilly mud and all that paper clutter that was everywhere
OMG!! I'm such an old soul and would litterally give it all, to turn back the hands of time for those three days and be right there, huggin my brothers and sisters, rockin to some real music!!!!!!!
Awesome video. So much better than all the other videos that just zoom in on the stage and don't really capture the moment. A few days to celebrate peace and love during a time of death and destruction. Thank-you for sharing.
You still don't get it. They were not mourning. While the rest of the world was running around killing each other, so to speak, they were loving each other. Sounds corny but that was the mind set. "Make love not war!" I'd rather spend a sleepless night in bed with my girl than a sleepless night dodging bullets! Lol
Wish i woulda been there .. Only 13 now and ive been to 6 music feativals i bless my father for introducring me to REAL music and the real way of life
I would have stayed at a nice hotel near this musical event... perhaps the Hilton. Then I would have taken a taxi to the musical shows each day, that most pleased me.... perhaps the day Joan Baez performed! Then maybe after a glass of 1968 Chardonnay wine (when I'm feeling particularly light headed) , I would take off my loafers and have a dance to one of the groups that the young kids seemed quite fond of. Yes, I think I would have fit in quite well and made quite a good Beatnik at Woodstock!
This is museum worthy! Fantastic.

@Louis69 then again, when you consider what happened at the woodstock festivals after the 1969 one, it makes you think.

Wow, you're right, none. That's a real sobering observation. Very sad, legalize pot and outlaw McDonalds.

It's ironic that Woodstock was a celebration of peace, love, and FREEDOM, but comments on this video are 'pending approval'.
The only other posters on YouTube who do that are evangelical christians and republicans.
Why?
freedomsfart 2 years ago 2
It's weird to see all of those young people and to think most of them are now in their sixties, and even seventies.
When you see an old codger with ear phones, just remember, he might be grooving on Jefferson Airplane and harkening back to his acid days.
freedomsfart 2 years ago 7
woodstock really sucked way too many people lots of drugs no food to speak of the bands who were all stoned out of their gourds thought they were making the music of the divine but they just sucked! and what about all that chilly mud and all that paper clutter that was everywhere
atfatw 2 years ago
is that how you feel?
cmarr3546 2 years ago
Not everyone sucked-check out Santana and Sly and the Family stone-if you think they sucked then you don't have ears.
musictflo 2 years ago 2
half a million people and no violence. Soul Sacrifice, I'm Going Home, Purple Haze, Little Help from my friends, my Generation...
what's wrong with a few days without food for all that?
rockshred5150 2 years ago 8
@atfatw
Apparently you haven't listened to the recordings. That is some of the best live music I have heard.

As the camera pans across the mass of people I didn't notice 1 obese person. Just an observation.

Lol

Was that the Japanese Imperial Flag at 0:55 ?
If so...are they showing it as a sign of defiance against the government?
Cool Vid!
ZincShackles 2 years ago
It sure seems to be. Maybe whoever had it was suggesting that the US was behaving as an imperial power because of the war in Vietnam.

How befitting.
