She sounds more like ursula rucker than any one of the so called" beats". Pretty awesome and beyond category really. Descriptions just describe a point of reference which usually overlap and eventually mean nothing in the vocabulary of a mature artist or person for that matter, or when describing them. This song is great. The performance, rather - it's mesmerizing.
And then, I'm hit with a brick in the face! The switch to that other language is so abrupt, and the sound of that other language so unnatural (here), that the whole thing is ruined.
A damn shame. I need to listen to some other song of hers to forget this.
@oYoYebutu You can't be serious. She subtly slips into "that other language" for the last 30 seconds or so and you call that a "brick in the face"? Mind boggling. Are you so ethnocentric that other languages are repulsive to you? It's Portuguese... or Spanish (?), one of the ROMANCE languages anyway, sexy the way she utters it, I don't even know what she's saying and it's still a turn on.
@SacredSocietyAP - Sorry to disappoint you - but BEAT POETRY is Light Years away from Rap & Hip-Hop - not that I'm dissing Rap or Hip-Hop, mind you. But BEAT POETRY was a combination of many Elements that was not ONLY Poetry with a Beat, but used different Elements of Music, Art (Painting, Sculpture, etc), Enactments, Interaction with the Audience and many other things - if anything, BEAT POETRY is actually closer to PUNK/NEW WAVE.
@sheykhzekker there are loads! like arthur russell for example, also a good example of a great musician forgotten by time in rather sad circumstances.
polarize me embrace moi bon bon. the truth is obscure in this age of invincibly cured. BenoitDavid/AlanWhite or Bruford/Peacock! The eternal battle lingers on.
For me, Annette Peacock is the most unappreciated musician of all time. This song shows perfectly her wildly sassy rhythmical and tonal ability. Amy Whitehouse only approaches her for example.
Just don't tell her you called her Amy Whitehouse...could you get you in trouble - or at least it could have before last November saved the world (unless it's too late...)

In a strange way, she reminds me of Jim Morrison. Singing and poetry. Wonderful talent.

Amy Winehouse is just a commercial phenomenon. Annette is an artist. There is no comparison.

@oYoYebutu 3'10" in one language (English, that is), then, bam! another one (not Portuguese, not Spanish; for what it's worth, it is Italian).
You are, of course, free to enjoy mixing cows and sheep.
P.S. If it weren't for the Internet, who could ever pass judgement on others without having a clue as to who they are?

Favourite song from a very good album. It's a pity I put it too close to my central heating. The vinyl has molten.
