Ancient egyptians (before the invation by Assyrians, Greecks, Romans, Arabs and finally Turkish) were most probably Nubians. The difference was a political boarder not ethnic. Because all the modern scientific studies (performed by europeans and americans) show that the samples obtained from mummies of ancient egyptians cluster together with Nubians.

BUT this mixing happened after the year 650 B.C. when massive numbers of immigrants migrated to egypt from Asia and Europe with the invation by the Assyrians and Greecks (Alexander the great). Before 650 B.C egyptians were indeginous African people. So all the famous Faraohs e.g. Ramsis and Nefertiti were Africans and shared ethnicity with Nubians, Ethiopeans and Eretrians.

Some Nubians in south egypt can have some sub-saharan features due to early migration from western dessert around 5000 B.C. (7000 years ago).
