nice job. I have noticed how some people vary the way they teach 'leave it' or 'zen'.

It is confusing for me at times too.

The other trainer I work with, clicks when the dog pauses and 'looks at the treat,' without going for it.

I was taught to click when the dog looks away from the treat, and now, I see you clicking for eye contact. All of these methods make sense when explained.

I would just like to know what, exactly, the 'leave it' que means, or does leave it relate to 'zen'?

A cue means what you decide it means... or rather, it means whatever you reinforce. The key is to decide what you want and be consistent.

For me, "leave it" means "spit out whatever you have and come to me". I- for myself, and my dogs- start teaching it with a toy. Food is just too enticing to be sure of success in the beginning. This session of "doggie zen" was about self-control, and eye contact in the face of distraction. It's only distantly related to my version of "leave it".

are you clicking for eye contact? or not mugging the hand. im confussed about doggie zen and the leave it. in the leave it the dog does not get the treat from the hand is that right? thanks cute video

In the first :20 I'm just doing a little warm-up, clicking for offered eye contact. Once the treats are in my hand, I'm clicking for eye contact despite the distraction of food in my hand...and then Pash gets the food. Basically the end goal is that Pash will look at me when he sees/smells something he wants, rather than just diving on it.
