To me, TrackIR may help, but it doesn't make much sense. For example, now that you have 5 monitors it is perfect, because you can actually see your right looking to the right. With TrackIR you have to turn your head to the right and turn your eyes to the left. I never tried, but seems very weird.
BTW, congratulations for all the videos. I'm a huge fan.
Who has only one monitor can try this. Put your finger in some picture in the right upper corner of your monitor to mark the position. Point your head to the center then to the area of your finger is. The picture does not move. Now see what happens in your video when you look to rear mirror. The trackir actualy scrolls down the image and your eye compensate the movement. To be perfect the monitor should go up reach the mirror not the image go down.
in my case whem i move the head i had to compensate the movement with eyes because the direction where my head is pointing has no screen. In your case, i think ,when you move your head to right (for example) searching for the right mirror, the mirror wich is already in the real position goes more to right because the trackir and you have to compensate with eyes. Thats is causing desorientation in you.
Hi, nice setup you have. But you don´t need TrackIr when using 3 monitors because your angle view is wide enough. I think trackir is for who setup a realistic fov view but only have one monitor and loose the capacity to see mirror and close cars and, despite moving the head to see something in short angle is weird an unnatural movement, its necessary if using only one monitor.
How fast is the response rate with your TrackIR? I know I made homemade headtracker and it wasn't too bad if I didn't turn my head too fast, lol if I did there was a delay..
Could you possibly make a video showing what the delay is like when you turn your head fast?
I could adjust the sensitivity, deadzone, and smoothness as well, but it still lagged a little if I moved my head really fast, do you still experience this with your setup?
I would check out some Sim Racing forums, look in the Hardware section. Also, checkout SimRacingTonight here on YouTube. They have a bunch of videos on Sim Racing.
First you will need a cockpit, you can buy pre-built or build your own. The Obutto is an awesome pre-built and it is relatively cheap.
Next, a wheel. The DFGT is a great beginner wheel. You will want something with 900 degrees and a lot of button to start. The G27 is a good upgrade.
But you will want to upgrade to a Load Cell pedal set. The Fanatec ClubSports are awesome for the price. If you want to go bigger and better, check out CannonSimulationTechnologies(dot)com he makes amazing pedals for $700+
You will also need to get a computer. I would suggest mainperformancepc if you want pre-built. If you want to build it yourself Newegg is an awesome site for computer parts.
Do your research before you buy parts you will learn a lot and won't spend as much
Hey man great setup, do you use the same settings on your g27 for every car in iracing...I am talking about the driver software that comes with the g27?
You need to adjust your TrackIR settings, remove any of the dead zone in the middle... you will find that the motion is a LOT more natural, and allows for much more subtle head movements into turns. Trust me!
Is trackir useful with 3 screens where you have limited visibility? I mean not seeing passengers window and mirror. Does it feel natural and easier than clicking "look right"?
you've made such a great effort with your set up, well done. I know my self what it takes to set something like this up and it is totally worth it. Well done again:-)
Hey just wonder what your settings for the g27 are (logi Profile and in game) and what your CSP settings are (particularly the brake throw and foam and brake bar used)
Is that headset for head tracking - you also have speakers. Does it also track your eyes? How much did that set up cost and did you put it together yourself?
@element303 This is probably as close as you can get to real racing without having to go and buy a real race car, costing a lot more then this.
Either he can slip a peddle here and just restart the game, or he can slip in real life and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and possibly his life if not the lives of others.
thats not what i talk about, beside he cant drive at all. luckily the most expensive equipment is useless without talent. im not hating, i just never liked when people got everything deep in their *ss because they had parents that rather buy than bring up a kid. the fact that he uses gloves makes it ridiculous
@element303 You'd probably say the same thing to me then. ;) 1100 on computer parts. 400 for the G27 (cause they don't have them anywhere anymore it seems), not to include the fact that i've spent about 280 on stuff for iRacing. All with my 14,000/y hourly wage part time job.
So, maybe next time before you comment, you should think "maybe this person actually bought it themselves" rather than mommy and daddy. )
But, practice makes perfect right? (Now to learn how to blip! )
You can change the TrackIR profile for racing games, I have mine set up to ignore everything except turning my head left or right and even then only when I turn more than 15 degrees or so. This prevents disorientation but still allows me to glance left or right when I'm running side by side.
It is called TrackiR or Natural Point. I don't recommend it for racing games though. This was just kind of for fun, it may look cool, but it is really disorienting and hard to get used to.
I would 100% recommend TrackiR for flight simulator though.
@Latinhas I have to agree with Chad. Though I've never tried head tracking for racing, it's a huge benefit in flight sims. (Especially combat flight sims) I use a home-made head tracking cap, my webcam, and some free software, called FreeTrack.
Hey Chad, watching your videos got me into iRacing! I am thinking of building my simpit like yours, but not until I get a G27. For the tubing, did Lowes do the cutting for you? Also I take it you're not in Rookie classes doing the Nvidia Cup like I am, haha
Lowes didn't cut the tubing for me, I cut it all with a hack saw. It is tiring until you get the proper technique down. You basically have to start cutting on the corner until you are half way through, then flip the tube over and cut on the opposite corner until you meet the other cut.
I use the Flip Ultra HD. I don't think I would recommend it though because there are no settings on it. You just have to record with what they provide.
I plan to get a better camera to take away some of the brightness on the track.
27" screens would be great. It is not like 23" monitors are bad or anything. I just think that 32" would be the ideal size.
Almost everyone that runs 3 screens uses screens that are 21" to 24". They work perfectly, but if you are looking for something a little bigger 27" would be nice.
Nice setup. As far as the wheel I went with the Fanatec GT2 and it doesn't feel sluggish at all. Very smooth not notchy like my logitec was. Only down side is I don't think you can change the wheel out yet. Maybe somebody is working on an adaptor. Thrustmaster another option but I love my CSP's.
Thnx for the rep. After watching mikwilson's 47" setup I think 23" to 32" works best. Maybe 37" when sitting further away. U2311 are out of stock in the Netherlands. I think I'll settle with samsung 2443bw's.
Thnx Chad. Been searching the iRacing forums as well for a finite answer, no luck so far. What about field of view? With larger screens you only see one screen due to peripheral vision. I've read that we can see sharp 75 to 95 degrees and have a peripheral (blurry) vision of 140 to 170 degrees.
I don't worry about FOV. There is technically only ONE FOV for each setup. You put all the measurements in the FOV calculator and let it calculate the real FOV and then never touch it.
It is hard to say without trying bigger screens, 23" screens are nice, but I honestly think 32" or 37" would be ideal, but those come with a price and take up more space.
When I make my next upgrade I will probably go with 32 or 37" TVs.
42" might be good, but they look too big to have 3 of them, imo.
I don't find anything wrong with 23" monitors, they work great, but something bigger would be nice.
Hey chad, you were so right about the fanatec wheels, feels sluggish and mine won´t work on my PC, the fucking thing sucks. I´m going to return it, get my money back and get the G27.
Yea sluggish is a good word for the feeling. I couldn't think of it.
But just remember, the G27 isn't perfect and they are hard to find right now. The G27 has a notchy feel to it, kind of like two gear fighting against each other, but it feels more crisp than the GT3RS.
dude you have a good channel keep up the good work.
hey aas a request can you do a vid driving fw31 @ silverstone- im trying to master the tracks and could do with a few pointers but would like to see how you do it and your times.
I am supposed to be getting a replica Williams wheel in about 2 weeks, so if you can wait, I will post a video of F1 at Silverstone when I get it.
I just really hate driving cars without the proper steering wheel, and I need a wheel with a lot of buttons. That is why I have only made one F1 video.
Sweet dude, you must be excited about it!!! looking forward to it then, I am in the process of building a cockpit myself and am excited- I reckon it gives it that much more realism. hey do you use a buttekicker by any chance??
Is your monitors side by side flush or do you have them overlapping to hide the bezel. If you you have them overlapping is the side monitors overlapping the middle or is the middle overlapping the sides?
Hey man, I have the side monitors overlapping the middle monitor. I just find that having half the bezel makes it a little bit easier to see around them.
Yea I get that disoriented feeling when racing with TrackIR.
Spa is awesome. :) Such a big track compared to the other ones in iRacing. I only really drove the Corvette at Spa, sooo...the whole track was slippery.
I'm sure the kerbs are slippery though, it seems like every game has slippery kerbs.
Yo, Chad--great vid. That's a neat rig you got. What is it? An IR sensor that watches your head movements?

You can also buy the SLI-Pro, it is a little more sophisticated.

hi chad, where can i find the sli-m box (or only the box where to put the sli-m) that u have on the g25?
thx ^^
kanzil85 1 year ago
@kanzil85
I got it at Radio Shack is a just a plastic box 6"x3"2/1/2" I used an L-bracket to secure it to the top of my wheel.

Thnx Chad. Been searching the iRacing forums as well for a finite answer, no luck so far. What about field of view? With larger screens you only see one screen due to peripheral vision. I've read that we can see sharp 75 to 95 degrees and have a peripheral (blurry) vision of 140 to 170 degrees.
scarenl 1 year ago
@scarenl
I don't worry about FOV. There is technically only ONE FOV for each setup. You put all the measurements in the FOV calculator and let it calculate the real FOV and then never touch it.
Mine is at 118 right now, I think.
chadsmith20 1 year ago
Chad are you happy with 23" or advice larger screens? I'm coming from a 42" HDTV for iRacing and trying to decide on a triple screen setup.
scarenl 1 year ago
@scarenl

Still watching every vid :D Saving up some money to get me a momo wheel for on the g27 =)

@lowgolfmkv
Thanks man!
Hope you get the wheel soon, you love it.
chadsmith20 1 year ago
Simply amazing, with that Track-Ir now it makes so REAL! I'm 0_0 watching you're vid. I need that setup...
sunburnmuse 1 year ago
Hey chad, you were so right about the fanatec wheels, feels sluggish and mine won´t work on my PC, the fucking thing sucks. I´m going to return it, get my money back and get the G27.
Nefus1988 1 year ago
@Nefus1988
Yea sluggish is a good word for the feeling. I couldn't think of it.
But just remember, the G27 isn't perfect and they are hard to find right now. The G27 has a notchy feel to it, kind of like two gear fighting against each other, but it feels more crisp than the GT3RS.
chadsmith20 1 year ago
@chadsmith20 Or else I just wait for the sucessor to the G27
Nefus1988 1 year ago
dude you have a good channel keep up the good work.
hey aas a request can you do a vid driving fw31 @ silverstone- im trying to master the tracks and could do with a few pointers but would like to see how you do it and your times.
barramundi10 1 year ago
@barramundi10
Hey man thanks for watching.
I am supposed to be getting a replica Williams wheel in about 2 weeks, so if you can wait, I will post a video of F1 at Silverstone when I get it.
I just really hate driving cars without the proper steering wheel, and I need a wheel with a lot of buttons. That is why I have only made one F1 video.
chadsmith20 1 year ago
@chadsmith20
Sweet dude, you must be excited about it!!! looking forward to it then, I am in the process of building a cockpit myself and am excited- I reckon it gives it that much more realism. hey do you use a buttekicker by any chance??
barramundi10 1 year ago
@barramundi10
Yea a cockpit makes sim racing completely different.
No buttkicker. I live in a one bedroom apt. and I'm sure the neighbors would hate all the shacking. lol
chadsmith20 1 year ago
@chadsmith20: Is Charlie making that wheel for you as well?

The one and only. :)
Can't wait for it.

That Corvette driver in front was obviously not using his mirrors, lol

@jammydodgerman
Yea, that one caught me off guard. lol Looked pretty cool though.
chadsmith20 1 year ago
why would you need Track IR, if you have a 3-screen setup?
Gregz0r1 1 year ago
@Gregz0r1
I don't, I was just showing a demo of TrackIR for those who have not seen it in action.
chadsmith20 1 year ago
@Gregz0r1 i feel like it would be crappy with one screen because youd have to turn your head and still look at the screen...
Justin0124 1 year ago
The guy in the green and black corvette probably thought he was playing Need for speed the way he was flying around the corners. Nice racing set up.

Hi Chad
Is your monitors side by side flush or do you have them overlapping to hide the bezel. If you you have them overlapping is the side monitors overlapping the middle or is the middle overlapping the sides?
Cheers
na14beer 1 year ago
@na14beer
Hey man, I have the side monitors overlapping the middle monitor. I just find that having half the bezel makes it a little bit easier to see around them.
chadsmith20 1 year ago
your rig setup is perfect. I find track IR makes you dizzy.
how do you like spa?
are kerbs slippery?
roletnabih 1 year ago
@roletnabih

Image if GT5 had that collision physics! I have GT5 and it feels like a driving game from 1999.
Nefus1988 1 year ago
Aye if you ever think about getting rid of your TrackIR, lemme know I could use one as I use a single monitor :D
jjfan4824 1 year ago
What the? Motion sensor headset???
BloodMagex 1 year ago
@BloodMagex
Almost, if you look on the left ear piece there is a clip and that is what detects your head movement. It is called TrackIR 5.
I guess it would be alright for racing games, but it is perfect for flight sims.
