  • Yo, Chad--great vid. That's a neat rig you got. What is it? An IR sensor that watches your head movements?

  • how did you get your track ir to work in iracing i cant figure out how to get my track ir 5 to get detected by iracing....

  • Damn you made "Getting Cut Off" 9000x worse at 0:36

  • Go buy a car...

  • @Peligrazo and spend more on things like tyres, repairs (if you crash it), track day passes etc etc

  • 0:37 ... R.I.P.

  • Comment removed

  • Where he looks in the screens in follows his eyes? 0:15?

  • @MakingTheShit If you're asking what it is, it's called TrackIR

  • cool setup but wouldnt be the same without the gloves lol

  • the gloves... haha! hillarious, mate.

  • @shuairan Yo, you need gloves for iracing, mate. And shoes--I recommend it.

  • Hey - you were the guy who had his rig on SimRacing Tonight the other day :)

  • @MayoDK

Hmm, I must have missed that episode. Which one was it.

  • lmao at the car that pulls out infront of you.

  • wow nice setup man :)

  • very nice driving man :) i invite you to my YT canal ;)

  • Great driving mate .

  • He's even got racing gloves on :D

  • the price on all the stuff you got there? :)

  • awesome video dude and dat guy @will122391 is jealous cuz he has a 13" Monitor and a Pentium 2

  • how much was this set?

  • Sick that mate

  • @MOZZWIGAN

    Thanks!

  • Great video!

  • To me, TrackIR may help, but it doesn't make much sense. For example, now that you have 5 monitors it is perfect, because you can actually see your right looking to the right. With TrackIR you have to turn your head to the right and turn your eyes to the left. I never tried, but seems very weird.

BTW, congratulations for all the videos. I'm a huge fan.

  • Is it a G25 or G27 you have there? and were did you get the sequential shifter?

  • @sweetcougar

It is a G27. I got the shifter from frex(dot)com/gp It is called the Frex Shift+

  • i wanna live with yoiu. hahahaha

  • impresionante.very nice

  • @will122391

    Thank you.

  • I got that same headset. :)

  • yes this is weird...how can the monitors view change when u move ur head?

  • how did u make the screen look where u look

  • @bigbob3840

That's what TrackiR is, or you can look up Natural Point.

  • Monitors following head moviment or racing simulators supporting the new virtual 3d glasses by sony (<--this will be perfect and cheapiest)

  • Who has only one monitor can try this. Put your finger in some picture in the right upper corner of your monitor to mark the position. Point your head to the center then to the area of your finger is. The picture does not move. Now see what happens in your video when you look to rear mirror. The trackir actualy scrolls down the image and your eye compensate the movement. To be perfect the monitor should go up reach the mirror not the image go down.

  • @favoritos2011 Thanks!

Yea, I don't use TrackiR with 3 monitors. This more for demonstration purposes. I had TrackiR lying around so I thought I would make a video of it.

    My monitors are 23"

  • in my case whem i move the head i had to compensate the movement with eyes because the direction where my head is pointing has no screen. In your case, i think ,when you move your head to right (for example) searching for the right mirror, the mirror wich is already in the real position goes more to right because the trackir and you have to compensate with eyes. Thats is causing desorientation in you.

    Sorry about my english.

Ps: wich size these monitors are?

  • Hi, nice setup you have. But you don´t need TrackIr when using 3 monitors because your angle view is wide enough. I think trackir is for who setup a realistic fov view but only have one monitor and loose the capacity to see mirror and close cars and, despite moving the head to see something in short angle is weird an unnatural movement, its necessary if using only one monitor.

  • Nice setup, how much did it all cost?

  • you have a good setup for gaming, dude.

  • good job glove man !!!!!! lol.

  • How fast is the response rate with your TrackIR? I know I made homemade headtracker and it wasn't too bad if I didn't turn my head too fast, lol if I did there was a delay..

Could you possibly make a video showing what the delay is like when you turn your head fast?

    great setup btw! :-)

  • @1981z28camaro Thanks!

You can actually adjust the sensitivity in the TrackiR software. I put a little deadzone in it so it doesn't detect all of the small head movement.

  • @chadsmith20 thanks for replying :-)

I could adjust the sensitivity, deadzone, and smoothness as well, but it still lagged a little if I moved my head really fast, do you still experience this with your setup?

  • Triple monitors? Yes.

    Wheel + gear display? Yes.

But racing gloves? Why on earth do you need racing gloves?

  • nice.

i dropped my trackir5 when i started using 3 screens.

    check my vidz.

  • what's the name of this game again??

  • @woong6223

    iRacing.com

  • Would you be willing to give me some tips on how to put a set-up like this together?

  • @LamboNRzOwner

I would check out some Sim Racing forums, look in the Hardware section. Also, checkout SimRacingTonight here on YouTube. They have a bunch of videos on Sim Racing.

First you will need a cockpit, you can buy pre-built or build your own. The Obutto is an awesome pre-built and it is relatively cheap.

Next, a wheel. The DFGT is a great beginner wheel. You will want something with 900 degrees and a lot of button to start. The G27 is a good upgrade.

The DFGT pedals will be fine.

  • @LamboNRzOwner

But you will want to upgrade to a Load Cell pedal set. The Fanatec ClubSports are awesome for the price. If you want to go bigger and better, check out CannonSimulationTechnologies(dot)com he makes amazing pedals for $700+

You will also need to get a computer. I would suggest mainperformancepc if you want pre-built. If you want to build it yourself Newegg is an awesome site for computer parts.

Do your research before you buy parts you will learn a lot and won't spend as much

  • Great setup mate. Is the pro clip better than the hat clip? I have only used my hat clip so far because I don't use head phones.

  • If I use my TrackIR to look around, it only pans. I can't get a look on my right mirror. What did I do wrong?

  • @Yarach

I think you have to make sure all the axis' have a check mark beside them.

Yaw, Pitch, X, Y, Z. You can have "Roll" checked, but that is really disorienting.

  • What is the thing that follows your eyes

  • @Venddenta

That is called TrackiR. I have the tracker mounted to my headphones.

  • OMG

  • Am i the only one who hates the sound of that car? No disrespect to anyone.

  • lol even has gloves on.. what a dork

  • @vonjager Jealous much?

  • Hey man great setup, do you use the same settings on your g27 for every car in iracing...I am talking about the driver software that comes with the g27?

  • @DavidGabRieL07

Yes, in the Logitech profiler I always keep my settings the same.

    900

    100

    0

    0

    8-12 in game FFB

  • You need to adjust your TrackIR settings, remove any of the dead zone in the middle... you will find that the motion is a LOT more natural, and allows for much more subtle head movements into turns. Trust me!

  • How the hell did you get that setup with three screens? Please help me out, I need to know.

  • @chadsmith20 that's why I said "real life"

  • @BBVCorvettec62005

The Corvette on iRacing uses the same transmission as the one in real life.

  • @chadsmith20 actually the 2011 corvette C6.R uses paddle shift

  • @TheIsmoSepi That's irrelevant to the iRacing one

  • Is trackir useful with 3 screens where you have limited visibility? I mean not seeing passengers window and mirror. Does it feel natural and easier than clicking "look right"?

  • @Aireisor

Not with racing games imo. I think it is great with flight simulator though.

In racing games I just get really disoriented when looking around, it doesn't feel natural.

  • if your trying to be absolutely realistic. In real life they heel-toe with throttle blip on the down shifting. very nice set-up

  • @BBVCorvettec62005

Depends on the car. The Corvette on iRacing doesn't require a clutch for up shifting or down shifting.

  • That's a mighty impressive setup- simple but does the job really well. I'm assuming that's the Frex shifter.

  • @myke6699

Thanks! And yes that is the Frex Shift+ connected to the SLI-m.

  • Corvette does not have sequential gearbox. Use manual

  • @alexsuper223

    Yea it does have sequential.

  • @alexsuper223

You do realize this is the C6.R, and not the production road car, right?

  • What's your G27 settings you are running (Logitech profiler). You wheel seems to be be handling very smoothly.

  • @Fergobirck

  • are those monitors the dell P2310H?

  • @chadsmith20 sexy set up man!

  • you've made such a great effort with your set up, well done. I know my self what it takes to set something like this up and it is totally worth it. Well done again:-)

    Fergy

  • @Fergy00000

    Thanks!!

  • gloves on a sim......now that's tragic.

  • @monkeyboy85 Usually you sweat like a mother fucker so if you don't want to ruin the leather on the wheel you need to wear gloves.

  • What cpu and videocard do you have? Does it run smooth at spa? At what resolution?

  • @Merto6

I have a E8400@3.6 and an ATI 5870. The CPU is outdated and struggles a little bit to run Spa. Resolution is 5870x1080.

  • Hey just wonder what your settings for the g27 are (logi Profile and in game) and what your CSP settings are (particularly the brake throw and foam and brake bar used)

    Thanks.

  • Sick videos and setr up! Keep t6hem coming

  • Is that headset for head tracking - you also have speakers. Does it also track your eyes? How much did that set up cost and did you put it together yourself?

  • Why did you change your Fanatec to G27?

  • @lErssikeke

Mainly because you can change the steering on the G27. I also just liked the G27 better because it felt more precise to me.

That was over 2 years ago, so the Fanatec wheels could be better now.

  • how cute. daddy bought his nerd son everything. and gloves? hahahahaha thats so stupid

  • @element303 This is probably as close as you can get to real racing without having to go and buy a real race car, costing a lot more then this.

Either he can slip a peddle here and just restart the game, or he can slip in real life and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and possibly his life if not the lives of others.

    Stop hating.

  • thats not what i talk about, beside he cant drive at all. luckily the most expensive equipment is useless without talent. im not hating, i just never liked when people got everything deep in their *ss because they had parents that rather buy than bring up a kid. the fact that he uses gloves makes it ridiculous

  • @element303

Mommy and Daddy didn't buy any of this for me. I have something called a job and bought all of this over about a 3 year period.

Now I race karts, Mom and Dad didn't buy that for me either.

  • thats nice then, but doesnt look like that at all ;-)

  • @element303 You'd probably say the same thing to me then. ;) 1100 on computer parts. 400 for the G27 (cause they don't have them anywhere anymore it seems), not to include the fact that i've spent about 280 on stuff for iRacing. All with my 14,000/y hourly wage part time job.

So, maybe next time before you comment, you should think "maybe this person actually bought it themselves" rather than mommy and daddy. )

But, practice makes perfect right? (Now to learn how to blip! )

  • @element303 Haha, yeah, the gloves are a bit over the top I'll admit.

But hey, if you've got money, spend it :P

  • Racing gloves on a computer game? You've got to be fucking joking. hahaha

  • You can change the TrackIR profile for racing games, I have mine set up to ignore everything except turning my head left or right and even then only when I turn more than 15 degrees or so. This prevents disorientation but still allows me to glance left or right when I'm running side by side.

  • how in the hell do you track your head movement? Is it hard to do? i just got my 23" Eyefinity + G27 ready to go....How you get head tracking?

  • @Latinhas

It is called TrackiR or Natural Point. I don't recommend it for racing games though. This was just kind of for fun, it may look cool, but it is really disorienting and hard to get used to.

I would 100% recommend TrackiR for flight simulator though.

  • @Latinhas I have to agree with Chad. Though I've never tried head tracking for racing, it's a huge benefit in flight sims. (Especially combat flight sims) I use a home-made head tracking cap, my webcam, and some free software, called FreeTrack.

  • Hey Chad, watching your videos got me into iRacing! I am thinking of building my simpit like yours, but not until I get a G27. For the tubing, did Lowes do the cutting for you? Also I take it you're not in Rookie classes doing the Nvidia Cup like I am, haha

  • @CgPallaeon

Awesome, I hope you enjoy iRacing.

Lowes didn't cut the tubing for me, I cut it all with a hack saw. It is tiring until you get the proper technique down. You basically have to start cutting on the corner until you are half way through, then flip the tube over and cut on the opposite corner until you meet the other cut.

  • Chad which assist do you use for clutching in the vette? If any

  • @scarenl

None, the Vette can be shifted without the clutch, you only have to blip the throttle on downshifts.

  • Nice video and rig Chad. What sort of camera did you use to film this?

  • @Lewiification Thanks!

I use the Flip Ultra HD. I don't think I would recommend it though because there are no settings on it. You just have to record with what they provide.

I plan to get a better camera to take away some of the brightness on the track.

  • BTW what do you think about 27" screens? I was thinking of 32" TV's but the space it takes up and the bezel thickness turn me off a little.

  • @scrolex

27" screens would be great. It is not like 23" monitors are bad or anything. I just think that 32" would be the ideal size.

Almost everyone that runs 3 screens uses screens that are 21" to 24". They work perfectly, but if you are looking for something a little bigger 27" would be nice.

  • Nice setup. As far as the wheel I went with the Fanatec GT2 and it doesn't feel sluggish at all. Very smooth not notchy like my logitec was. Only down side is I don't think you can change the wheel out yet. Maybe somebody is working on an adaptor. Thrustmaster another option but I love my CSP's.

  • Hi Chad, I have 2 questions for you. 1.What deg. of rotation do you use? 2.What headphones are you using? Thanks.

  • @PowerstrokeRacing24

I use 900 in windows and 860 in iRacing.

Headphones are from Best Buy, they are Plantronics - GameCom 777. They are nice, but they tend to wear out pretty easily. This is my third set.

I started with headphones, and recently bought a surround sound system and I prefer the speakers much more.

  • @chadsmith20 thanks chad i prefer the speakers more too! ive got a Logitech Z131 system.

  • Thnx for the rep. After watching mikwilson's 47" setup I think 23" to 32" works best. Maybe 37" when sitting further away. U2311 are out of stock in the Netherlands. I think I'll settle with samsung 2443bw's.

  • Hi! What dash are you using? I want it :)

  • @hariel

It is called the SLI-m from leobodnar(dot)com

You can also buy the SLI-Pro, it is a little more sophisticated.

  • hi chad, where can i find the sli-m box (or only the box where to put the sli-m) that u have on the g25?

    thx ^^

  • @kanzil85

I got it at Radio Shack is a just a plastic box 6"x3"2/1/2" I used an L-bracket to secure it to the top of my wheel.

  • Thnx Chad. Been searching the iRacing forums as well for a finite answer, no luck so far. What about field of view? With larger screens you only see one screen due to peripheral vision. I've read that we can see sharp 75 to 95 degrees and have a peripheral (blurry) vision of 140 to 170 degrees.

  • @scarenl

I don't worry about FOV. There is technically only ONE FOV for each setup. You put all the measurements in the FOV calculator and let it calculate the real FOV and then never touch it.

Mine is at 118 right now, I think.

  • Chad are you happy with 23" or advice larger screens? I'm coming from a 42" HDTV for iRacing and trying to decide on a triple screen setup.

  • @scarenl

It is hard to say without trying bigger screens, 23" screens are nice, but I honestly think 32" or 37" would be ideal, but those come with a price and take up more space.

When I make my next upgrade I will probably go with 32 or 37" TVs.

42" might be good, but they look too big to have 3 of them, imo.

I don't find anything wrong with 23" monitors, they work great, but something bigger would be nice.

  • Still watching every vid :D Saving up some money to get me a momo wheel for on the g27 =)

  • @lowgolfmkv

    Thanks man!

Hope you get the wheel soon, you love it.

  • Simply amazing, with that Track-Ir now it makes so REAL! I'm 0_0 watching you're vid. I need that setup...

  • Hey chad, you were so right about the fanatec wheels, feels sluggish and mine won´t work on my PC, the fucking thing sucks. I´m going to return it, get my money back and get the G27.

  • @Nefus1988

Yea sluggish is a good word for the feeling. I couldn't think of it.

But just remember, the G27 isn't perfect and they are hard to find right now. The G27 has a notchy feel to it, kind of like two gear fighting against each other, but it feels more crisp than the GT3RS.

  • @chadsmith20 Or else I just wait for the sucessor to the G27

  • dude you have a good channel keep up the good work.

hey aas a request can you do a vid driving fw31 @ silverstone- im trying to master the tracks and could do with a few pointers but would like to see how you do it and your times.

  • @barramundi10

    Hey man thanks for watching.

I am supposed to be getting a replica Williams wheel in about 2 weeks, so if you can wait, I will post a video of F1 at Silverstone when I get it.

I just really hate driving cars without the proper steering wheel, and I need a wheel with a lot of buttons. That is why I have only made one F1 video.

  • @chadsmith20

Sweet dude, you must be excited about it!!! looking forward to it then, I am in the process of building a cockpit myself and am excited- I reckon it gives it that much more realism. hey do you use a buttekicker by any chance??

  • @barramundi10

Yea a cockpit makes sim racing completely different.

No buttkicker. I live in a one bedroom apt. and I'm sure the neighbors would hate all the shacking. lol

  • @chadsmith20: Is Charlie making that wheel for you as well?

  • @Reason0684

    The one and only. :)

    Can't wait for it.

  • That Corvette driver in front was obviously not using his mirrors, lol

  • @jammydodgerman

Yea, that one caught me off guard. lol Looked pretty cool though.

  • why would you need Track IR, if you have a 3-screen setup?

  • @Gregz0r1

I don't, I was just showing a demo of TrackIR for those who have not seen it in action.

  • @Gregz0r1 i feel like it would be crappy with one screen because youd have to turn your head and still look at the screen...

  • The guy in the green and black corvette probably thought he was playing Need for speed the way he was flying around the corners. Nice racing set up.

  • Hi Chad

Is your monitors side by side flush or do you have them overlapping to hide the bezel. If you you have them overlapping is the side monitors overlapping the middle or is the middle overlapping the sides?

    Cheers

  • @na14beer

Hey man, I have the side monitors overlapping the middle monitor. I just find that having half the bezel makes it a little bit easier to see around them.

  • your rig setup is perfect. I find track IR makes you dizzy.

    how do you like spa?

    are kerbs slippery?

  • @roletnabih

Yea I get that disoriented feeling when racing with TrackIR.

Spa is awesome. :) Such a big track compared to the other ones in iRacing. I only really drove the Corvette at Spa, sooo...the whole track was slippery.

I'm sure the kerbs are slippery though, it seems like every game has slippery kerbs.

  • 0:38

Image if GT5 had that collision physics! I have GT5 and it feels like a driving game from 1999.

  • Aye if you ever think about getting rid of your TrackIR, lemme know I could use one as I use a single monitor :D

  • What the? Motion sensor headset???

  • @BloodMagex

Almost, if you look on the left ear piece there is a clip and that is what detects your head movement. It is called TrackIR 5.

I guess it would be alright for racing games, but it is perfect for flight sims.
