You looked a bit too far into a harmless comment there. I don't like that they cast her because she has a Chinese accent. It throws off the fantasy their trying to weave for the story. That's my complaint. Not the fact that she is Chinese. If she could imitate a Japanese accent, I wouldn't have minded or cared. Or even noticed really. And you're right; actors are paid to pretend to be someone else...convincingly. Zhang Ziyi is a great actress, but wasn't convincing as a Japanese girl.

the song from mulan goes really well with the arrangement you've made. when you think about it, mulan and memoirs of a geisha are similar in the message theyr trying to convey: 2 young women trying to break free and uphold their honour

One thing though, I thought the title of that piece of the Mulan soundtrack was called "Mulan's Choice" not Haircut. As near as I can tell from the cd and dvd none of the pieces are titled Haircut. Maybe we have different versions? (Sorry, just a bit confused by it. *heh*)

I know that, but I still think the music and the footage fit, cause they harmonize perfectly and convey the feeling of motion and change just the way I intended them to. Btw Japanese and Chinese music (or what a European (that's what I am) understands as such) often sounds quite similar. A Chinese or Japanese person might deny that, but as I'm not Chinese or Japanese I can't see why the Mulan-theme shouldn't fit with footage of "The Geisha".(Now go and call me a philistin ;-))

I'm not Japanese either, but I've lived in Japan. I know that Japanese people get quite upset when they're comparied with or paired with anything else Asian that's not Japanese - especially Chinese.
