  • Look on the bright side. The cloud stops the sun getting in your eyes when you're trying to see the strip. 

  • Now, that's what I wanna do! Looking at that cloud was NOT boring. Interesting how you pop out of the cloud but still can not see the strip, and how you still have enough time to do the downwind landing prep and checks. Don't think I would ever do that without GPS as it would be too easy lose the ILS and not know where the f--- you were!

  • @foyourethetubedick Thanks for the comment! Getting your IFR rating is definitely something worth doing! I usually do my initial before landing checklist at the middle marker. In this case, the before landing checklist was done at the middle marker -this was done in the clouds. I would seriously consider doing a missed approach if I found myself needing to do a full before landing checklist breaking out at 600 feet. I got my IFR without GPS, you can do it too! Practice with a flight simulator :)
