with the selling off of my beloved Australia to overseas interests, the pending CARBON TAX HOAX, there soon wont be much left ! Australia will be one big quary, with New Hope Mining and Chinese Communist mining BUYING UP Queensland, Victorian and NSW's Hunter and Liverpool plains soil rich FARMING properties, for the purpose of coal seam gas exploration, then this WONDERFUL song should be called "God HELP Australia" !
For god's sake this is the best national anthem we could ever want. It used to be played at the close of one of the tv stations in Perth in the 70's. Bring it back and email it to all you know.
@SlashinatorX Ill comment wherever the fuck i like you stupid pedophile bitch. I have full access to your hard drive and admin priveledges. Just hope I dont change all your passwords!
Only thing is - fact, not everyone who is an Australian was born here - which makes the song wrong in fact. "I am Australian" would be much better and much more uniting of everyone. But of course if you want to insult hundreds of thousands of Australians go ahead and make this the anthem. For the 60s it was a good song though.
This song ought to be taken seriously as it reflects the history of our country, and what made it to be so. To remove our Christian and A.N.Z.A.C. heritage, would be to remove the heart and soul of our Nation. This song I would gladly sing as our national Anthem. God Bless Australia!
What planet are you guys from advance australia fair is party peace too much bomp bomp bomp every other nation has a moving piece that brings tears to your eyes and makes your heart swell God Bless Australia is that song and it should be our national anthem. Advance Australia fair was prolly written by someone with too much time on their hands,
I only wished that God Bless Australia was out National Anthem it mention's our ANZCAS who fought for this country which we should be so proud to be a free one like we are today, were in Advance Australia Fair does it mention our ANZACS it dose not so wake up Australia and remember if it was not for our Fathers and For Fathers we would not be a free country like we are today and as far as i am concerned i wish God Bless Australia was OUR NATIONIAL ANTHEM,
@philipgsolomons By Anzacs you mean a brittish invasionery force that landed at gallipoli in what was a neutral country (Turkey) so that makes us the aggressor and not something to be proud of most Turks at the time didn't have a clue where Australia even was let alone impose their will on us.
We were the aggressor we invaded their neutral non aligned country a shameful act in itself.
@meringandan The transfer of the German battlecruiser Goeben and the light cruiser Breslau into the Turkish Navy in Aug 1914 and the shelling of Russian ports by these and other ships of the Turkish Navy in Oct 1914 (before any declaration of war) was not that of a neutral non aligned power. War was declared against Turkey in Nov 1914 (following this aggression) and Turkey attacked the Suez Canal in Feb 1915. By April 1915 the war was well under way. Turkey was neither neutral nor non aligned.
I remember this from my teens and early 20's before it disappeared. There was quite a strong movement to get this included in the 77 anthem debate but it was whitewashed as being commercial etc etc. It is far more relevant than the rubbish we are supposed to sing today!
For anyone interested it was written in the early 1900's by Jack O'Hagan for and set to the Mary Cowan variation of Waltzing Matilda. I have difficuly understanding how Caltex (Ampol) own the copyright to this. They should donate the copyright to the country as a gesture of goodwill!
Finally, speaking as a lifetime aethiest, I don't have a problem with the references to 'God' as most Australian's believe in a greater being of some sort. It does not state "Christian God" which appears to be the infernece of most critics.
Aussies, it's never too late! We can still dump Advance Australia Fair.
I would have chosen Advance Australia Fair, because it's more neutral. Most Australians might be Christian, true, but I prefer an anthem that does not refer to religion, so everyone can be proud of the anthem :)
this should be our national anthem, or we are australian.. either one. Who cares if it has God in it? most national anthems say the word God in it i mean look at God Save the Queen or God Defend New Zealand or O Canada.,
this would make a far better national anthem than the current one we have. and least all the words in God Bless Australia we know the meaning of in context.
This is truly a great song. we were hustled by the government of the day into having what they wanted. You can't mention GOD can you? That may offend some lazy dimwitted bludging socialist. Sad dark history. Get a grip you bludger. Poor white Australians do it a lot tougher than poor black ones. Get off your backside and do some work. Get over it and get a job. Go to a Aborignal community and see first hand how they love their land, neglected children and not to mention , their poor animals.
Yeah but god given land? Its stolen land mate, we all know that... Imagine being aboriginal and havin to sit through this shit, invaders self proclaimin a list of shit.... You fellas in the cities dont come in to contact with what this country really is, out where im from we see it daily, its got a sad dark history that deserves a mention for as long as our country exists. This tune is outdated and shameful.
Put your flagon down mate. Get a job and stop trying to explain your apathy and laziness on what happened over 200 years ago. The poor whites of this country don't get the hand outs your mob do. You denegate this great song with your pathetic comments. You should think yourself lucky this land wasn't colonised by the French or Chinese. You were only immigrants too! Am I a rasist? No a realist! What happens when the Chinese come ? You fellas might have to work or perish!
Wonderful. This was actually sung by the late Neil Williams OAM who was EMI's biggest recording artist in the 50s to the 70s. He was one of most beloved Australian and friend to many and ended his life having raised much money and done many wonderful things for Australians through the Lions Club. He was also my singing teacher.
I might be a "first generation Aussie" (European parents) but this song, which I first heard broadcast on the ABC when I was a kid in the 60s, never fails to bring a tear to my eye and make my heart swell with pride.
God bless Australia, indeed! Would that the whole world could be as peaceful as our great land.
I've been looking for this song ever since the National Anthem (or National Song as it was at the time) referendum. The people of Australia were snowed by the authorities at the time. They were "told" or persuaded what to vote for. If they had listened to all 3 options themselves, this would have been chosen by the majority of Aussies. Imagine hearing this at every sporting event and Olympic gold medal win. Wouldn't it just be Awesome. I knew it was the wrong choice and I was just a kid!!!
This should be our national anthem, it shows the anzac and how we as a nation have served the world in any conflict- let the world know we WILL answer the call
This was a great video also on the ABC I wonder if anyone has a copy to post
AMPOL gave a Anthem God Bless Australia! Why can't our Kids of today sing it!
