The newer one sounds a little brighter, but more importantly, significantly clearer and less muddy. I like it! I wonder if they'll ever give the ROV the same treatment. It needs refreshing, and a serial loop would be nice.
Great job! We wonder how far you should tweak the 2009 DR to get the "voice" of the 2010 DR. Of course there will be limitations, but it would be really interesting to see side by side, the settings, where the "voices" will be almost identical.
You know, when a presentation is that good, there's room for a lot of good conversation! Keep up the great job, guys!
After watching this video, I dont think Ill ever consider the 2009 era DR's. So much more presence, bite and clarity coming from the Reborn. I have a mark V and it cannot get the low end THUMP and CHUNK like the Rectos can...
@bozzi90 why? so it can sound like all the 13 year olds with dual rectifiers and no sense of what sounds good? Let me guess... he should tune down 48 steps too?
The old one sounds good only in pushed...all the other modes the new one stomps on it. I disagree about the old having more body. More bass is not "body" at all. It may get brighter but it is not thicker rather mushy and tend to lose itself. Nice riffing although saturation and nasty treble makes me favour mark amps for petrucci!
@9000Ryan HAHA! Yes I do. That guy really epitomizes a lot of Mesa/Boogie tones... so when you sit in front of a Rectifier or a Mark, it's tough not to want to jam on some Petrucci.
nice video, i could definately hear a difference and i like the reborn better, only thing i would have liked is if there was a little less bass and the mids at 1:00 but thats just me, overall its a great video.
Very informative and well done comparison of the two Mesa Boogie Duel Rectifiers. You guys at Haggertysmusic always do a very in-depth and detailed review of everything. We, the bedroom guitar heros, appreciate it very much. The Mark V In-Depth Review is also very impressive. I have a series 2 Mesa Boogie Duel Rectifier and now I am planning to get the new one, the triple mutliwatt, or the Mark V. Thanks Don and great playing by the way. Best wishes from California.
@cucuk666 We did use the same cabinet. We had a Rectifier 2x12 mic'ed off screen that we ran both amps through. So both amps got the same cabinet and mic treatment. Thanks for watching!
@munchy040 my Triple has no problems standing out in the mix. And I'm not talking about the more presence that the reborn has available. The new one, to me, sounds like it has less body, less girth, whatever you want to call it. My 2008 can get that bright if I turn the presence up but it also sounds alot thicker.
2010 is fuller, more responsive and tighter

2010 sounds tighter over 2009's flubby.

IMO the 2010 model has more treble and presence, for clean and dist rhythm i prefer the 2009, and for solos the 2010
good comparison

Great job with comparison but the only thing I really hear is the 2010 is a bit brighter both badass rock amps!

damn crank the gain a bit!!!!!!

@bozzi90
The amount of gain is just perfect... more and he would just hide the tones the amp is capable of... great, great demo BTW...
