I was a dependent on Loring from '62 to '65. My Dad was the fire chief then, Chief Jack Barker. We seem to have specialized in closing bases although this one lasted longer than most. We were there through the Cuban Missle Crisis (10/62), several structure fires, and a KC-135 that crashed on takeoff with a full load of JP4 fuel. I think my Dad's fondest memory was officiating at the Miss Flame contest each year.
I was at Loring as a dependent from 01/1980 through 01/1982, with the earthquake of '82 being the last day we were there. I haven't been back since. I also remember the incredibly nasty winters up there.
What memories! I flew 106's on alert from Loring from 84 to 88. Said to see the condition of the base.. All the northern tear bases are closed. Loring, Pease, Griffis to name a few...I drove onto what was Griffiss a few years back. I was totally shocked...
Fabulous job Dave. It sure is different driving around on base now. Thanks for all your work keeping the spirit of Loring Fire alive. I'll get over not being in any of the pictures.......Best Regards, Robb Kouhoupt (1980-82)

I was there in 1962-'63, and lived in Presque Isle. I can't believe I am looking at the very firehouses I worked in and the trucks I road in. Only I was not there for any of these fires. All I had was the washdowns of leaking fuel out of the B52s. Winters were a real challange and a test of nerves. But I loved it, especially the structural station. Nice country now!
I was trying to remember the crash from a c130? around 1987. I just wanted to pay a tribute to those four pilots, as i recall, that nearly averted our rooftop, one early morning in april 1987 if I recall correctly, but can't find any information about it. Does anyone recall or know those pilots who all have tragically lost their lives. The event has affected me greatly.
This is fabulous. I was with the 27FIS before landing my cross-training into fire @ LAFB. I
was at the crash station a short while and then
sent down to the structural station until I was sent to Suffolk County AFB on Long Island. This
video I will keep. I was there in 1963 straight out of Lackland. I am now 69 and live up the road from McGuire AFB, retired from Exxon. Don, Whiting, NJ 5-16-08
do you remember a Man by the name of Thurlow Larrabee? That is My Grandfather and i was looking for pictures of him. if you could get back to me that would be great. thank you
SORRY, very faint resemblance of the name. I was there 2 winters in the early 60s. The was a LaMunion, but not wht you are looking for. Was he at the crash station or structural station?
