@mymayapapaya hi mymaya i was just wondering if maybe there would be a way you could send me that playlist? it sounds really great and if you cant i understand but it would be nice to hear anyways thanks for the uploads!!! xoxo
@mymayapapaya its alright, a few weeks ago me and some girl had a falling out and his angry songs were what got me through it so easily, i think every elliott fan can relate with me on that statement :D
on any elliott smith video ive seen, all the comments are so respectful because we realize how fragile we are, having the love for this man be the only thing we know that we share in common, makes us love each other. somehow we all know to be gentle here. thank you elliott.
@misswollywancher You're right. I think it's a common respect for Elliott and an appreciation for his work. I like to think his fans have an understanding. His music transcends pretty much everything in the way it packages all these raw emotions together. It's all about respect, and there's not much room for anything else. Long live Elliott.
@misswollywancher Well I do love the music the man created, and he seemed like a nice enough fellow aside from the obvious. To say we share some kind of bond of love over some one's music is pretty stupid though.
@incoldwinds just drove home to California from Minnesota...this song was on all my playlists, sounded amazing while driving through the mountains of Wyoming in the fog...cheers
You know, for the longest time, I thought he was saying "Black guys always watch the clock" and I wondered what kind of subtle racist Elliott Smith was xD
My guess is that this songs lyrics are written from the perspective of a friend of Elliotts. Its like elliott is trying to figure out why people do certain things to him
i would sell my left foot and most of my non-vital organs to be able to play a rudimentary version of this song. does anyone have any clue how this song is played?
the amazing thing about ES is that he was more of a composer than a standard songwriter... most of his tunes are so beautifully layered, it makes it really hard to pick out one instrumental line that captures any given song. with this tune, your looking at at least three separate guitar tracks, if not four, so it may take a while... but don't give up on it.
It's simpler than that - Elliott did use multiple guitar trackss, but often they were just twinned-and-panned overdubs of the same thin. This song is one of the more layered ones, and has two pretty distinct things going on, but I think a one-guitar version is do-able. I believe the tuning is CGCGCe ("open C") . first few verse first chords are in first position on the G and high e string, if you can figure it out.
I may do a tutorial for this soon (see my Roman Candle one if interested)
All these videos are so amazing. I used to think I was one of the biggest Elliott fans until now. Btw, I saw that video with all the pictures of maya. I hate to look like an ass but, are you maya?
