The problem is that A) there's nothing wrong with people's natural skin colour, and this contributes to the idea that there is, B) it's a complete waste of money that's fed by nothing but insecurity and self-hate, and C) there hasn't been any research on the long-term effects of these products.

It's comparable to white women giving themselves skin cancer by tanning. Hydroquonine, a substance used in many of these creams, is a known carcinogen and is actually banned in many countries.
