Obama didn't grow up in a home or a neighborhood. He doesn't understand what our homes meant to us, and doesn't care that they'd been the center piece of most of American's financial planning for the last 100 years. He lived with his grandparents in a subsidized housing high rise in Hawaii, then bummed around college campuses before sponging off Michelle's parents in their house in Chicago. He has no financial experience, and he's lived a life insulated from the reality of the average American.
Why did Obama appoint the people did? Could it possibly have anything to do with Goldman Sach's Citigroup and JPMorgan being top contributors to his campaign? Inside Job is a great film and Ferguson does a great job but he lets Obama off the hook here.
Both parties D's & R's are in on it together as a little 1% club. Why else would there be a Clinton-Bush Haiti Relief Fund ? The last 25 years of President's are in bed together with their own off shore, non-profit, money laundering scheme.
I was working in the real estate market in the late 1990's. The radio and television were filled with constant ads about "no money down" financing for homes. They made people feel like fools for not buying or utilizing their equity. I knew hundreds who mortgaged their homes, put the money in the stock market, and lost everything. I tried to help people make wise decisions, but there were no other jobs and all the engineers in town were either mortgage brokers or realtors. It was insane.

What should we hope for in this day and time? I have two homes and lost my job 4 years ago. I thought by having two I can use my homes for financial gain if I lose my job. I want to keep these homes in my family if I ever get married. The bank gave me a balloon payments.

I don't think Obama's actions are all that mysterious; I've read he's going to need about a billion dollars for his re-election campaign in 2012 --without corporate support he wouldn't stand a chance. It's spineless and disappointing but I don't think it's a mystery.
If I give you a million bucks to eat my shit? Would you do it? Imagine what bankers can do with politicians. Bankers say jump and politicians say how high. And most bankers believe in the same religion.
the one thing these criminals have in common is not their ethnicity, but their ideology - they are all neoconservative republicans - if i was a united states citizen i would find somewhere else in the world to live - your democracy is broken beyond repair.
who gives a crap what religion people are! I dont get the point..what? is it part of their religion to steal? No. So why mention it? (for all you know they're atheists..
-that's a small part of whats so foolish about focusing on that. What shock! people in power use academics and lobbyists to promote personal interests?J
Look at the work of John Gross & Shayam Sunder et.al. for NIST (the refusal to even share their computer model inputs in a publicly funded investigation.. all for a paycheck
Safeguards in place to guard against this??....Problem is, no morals! We wouldn't need all these laws and overseers if SOMEBODY had morals.!Imagine....honesty without being put under oath.
He corrects Katie and trips her up around 2:15. She starts stammering "were were wer- for the mest part, most part... lets start-- lets take a look at..." lol
USA is an oligarchy owned by the rich elite. The people are pissed on. Alot of people still think they are free, and that a democrat vs republican gives them a choice, its fake choice, the illusion of freedom. It a corporate facist world order, the proof is we went from bush to obama and NOTHING changed, the same program continues. A medival illerterate would know this, and americans walk around thinking they are educated and free, how stupid they are.
I feel sorry for everyone who got burned. I saw this coming as early as 2003. When my sister told me what was going on in the mortgage business..and I did my own investigating....wow...no way was I going to buy any real estate at that point...every bubble bursts. Now...that said....these bankers are fuckers. Even after this meltdown they keep doing the same shit.
good interview n movie, it simplified the complicated issue n makes it more understandable to the public hopefully theres gonn b changes soon but i guess not..
It takes a brave and intelligent man to stand up to what are cleary some of the most powerful people in this country/world. Ferguson, should however put more emotion into the argument. I'm angry! Aren't you Ferguson.
And Katie stop trying to trivialize the actions of and defend the "poor, bewildered" bankers and government officials who neverrrrrrrr saw this coming. Yeaaaa riiiiiight!
And to answer half of Katie's questions: "It was greed (aka money), more money for the wealthiest."
A criminal offence of "hoarding" - that is saving more than $10 million with no intention of sharing the wealth, or investing, should carry a mandatory 10 year sentence, with extra years equivalent to each extra million hoarded
That would put a stop to all this nonsense.
Is $5 million not enough to live on?
It's time to reclaim these peoples' massive wealth. Militarily if necessary.
Everytime people start to get organized it becomes infiltrated with people pushing a party line . The dems did it , the reps. did it . People , The bankers did it with the help of both the Democrats and the Republicans . Do some research for yourself and stop listening to people who made a proffit from the generational theft of the last 30 years . Deregulation , budget cuts to investigative agencies of financial fraud . It is plain as day . Wake Up and turn off the ignorance !
Surely it is time for all individuals (most everyone who has invested in wall street) who have been wronged by the GFC to mount a class action? Is there no gutsy legal team in the US who is prepared to chase these $Billions and put those people who are responsible for this terrible fraud in jail? If each of these individuals has fraudulently taken $100's or Millions, then they are obviously prime targets for being held to account in a court of law! Please, if there is a class action tell me!
No chance. Most high level lawyers know who their paymasters are.
This is clearly a case where, on behalf of the people, the military needs to step in.
A martial law arresting all greedy people (those owning $10 million in personal assets) should come into force.
Those who've threatened the economy with their actions should be brought to trial for "High Treason" - for there's no doubt that they have harmed their country immensely; they should suffer the penalty for that.
@jazzx251 That will never happen. The rich own the army. The people own NOTHING. All you can do is what the hippies said to do 40 years ago. Turn on, tune in and drop out. Was Timothy Leary so wrong? We should have converted to more of an agrarian society years ago. I'm going back...Quoting Crosby Still and Nash...we got to get ourselves...back to the garden.....
I haven't seen this documentary yet, but most of the interviews I have heard Charles Ferguson on seem to address the symptoms of the problem only. The core issue I think does not have an easy answer. Guarantees from the Government is the blanket underneath which irrational behavior is bound to happen. Banks can give a stated income home loan to a pizza delivery guy who claims to make $200k because big old Fannie and Freddie will wire the cash for the deal. This is crazy.
Alan Greenspan, Jewish. Paul Volcker, Jewish. Larry Summers, Jewish. Dominique Strauss Kahn, Jewish. Barney Frank, Jewish.
Nouriel Roubini, Jewish. John Paulson, Jewish. Glenn Hubbard, Presbyterian. Albert Misan, Jewish. Robert Rubin, Jewish. Arthur Levitt, Jewish.
Angelo Mozilo, Roman Catholic. Lloyd Blankfein, Jewish. Harvey J. Goldschmid, Jewish. Richard Fuld, Jewish. Ben Bernanke, Jewish. Frederic Mishkin, Jewish.
Bill Ackman, Jewish. Kenneth Rogoff, Jewish. .. etc. ...
Americans wanted this crisis. They refuse to be educated, they boast about their pseudo-democracy and fake freedom - the only freedom they have is to be owned and controlled by Jews.
@rammstefani I'll give you the education part, but I don't think anybody wanted it. It's been an absolute tragedy for a lot of hard working people who had no part in creating this crisis. Don't be cruel, we're just people who happened to be born here.
@samaroha88 Keep going with that anti semitism. You must be part of the new Hitler Youth. When are you going to wake up and see that this has nothing to do with religion, ethnicity etc...it's about good old fashioned greed. Period.
samaroha88's point? They all love gods as well as naming and playing gods for other people. That's how greed eventually create religions. It is not a single person's establishment. It is an elitist establishment. They call themselves who they can call themselves "we are who we are" who can ignore the rest of the population and who believe future population have no other options except their choices.
Well, you know when Couric is giving an interview/blowjob with a person he is a leftist. This guy is a charlatan and was/is an apparatchik for the left.
@mulhollanddose ...A charlatan??! Have you watched the movie? For a charlatan, he is bringing to the surface FACTS that explain very well the corruption behind the US economic disaster. Those people responsible for the crash made tons of money with it and most of them are STILL working on the economy of America. And the American people do nothing about that?! You should be VERY angry and taking actions.
You should be fighting for justice against these people right now. Not putting this man down!
Why did he gloss over the single largest precipitating factor to the meltdown? Government (specifically Democrats like Chris Dodd and Barney Frank) and the government banks (FNMA, FDMC). Guess who walked away from FNMA with $90 million? Franklin Raines -- adviser to Barack Hussein Obama.
The meltdown would not have happened if the politicians (Democrats) did not strong arm lenders to loosen credit requirements by the banks. The banks were given a wink by the politicians (Democrats) that if it all came crashing down on their heads they would come to the rescue with taxpayer money...Once we have dealt with that side of the story, then I will start pointing my fingers at scumbags in the banks that were behaving criminally.
I am thankful to this guy for raising this topic. Wells fargo sold me an interest only product 5 years back at 6.7% suggesting that was best product for me, I am unemployed now and can't go on paying these high interests. Wells fargo can't help till i do default - says the investor is citibank and it will only lower the rates if I default. A senior guy at wfc said that nobody cared how or what happened in prior years ( short memory? ) after I complained to controller of currencies. Its bad!
The red flag WAS raised...call it Enron. Everyone with any power acted like they were a rogue company, strange and unique. Harvard...what a joke, remember Jeffery Skilling and his Harvard MBA. Obviously they don't care a lick about ethics. Greed, for lack of a better word, is good but never without ethics.
I am 52 with two kids they stole my home my retirement is gone all because I thought an appraiser and a mortgage broker were working in my interest turned out they were working for the bank! 950,000 APPRAISAL sold 2 years later for 250,000 on the courthouse steps My children keep asking when can we go back home ? JPM MORGAN I WANT MY HOUSE BACK! the one you didnt own and stole from us
@yomamaizsofatt Your story is my story EXACTLY. I share your situation and I share your anger. I'm tired of the housing declines being blamed on "people who couldn't afford to make their homes". We were defrauded, and no attorney or member of the government has done any more to help us than they did to protect us in the first place. We need to put our heads together on this. I'm pissed, and I want my home back too. I don't know if youtube's messaging works, but please contact me if you can..

What a profoundly intelligent man. What is he, a film director? Hearing him talk, I would've thought he was a scholar, an economist or mathematician or whatever.
@Lobbyistdantelynch That's funny. I struggled with maths at school. I still have nightmares of waking up unprepared for my maths exams. Whenever I see somebody who strikes me as very intelligent, I go like "he/she must be great at maths." That's my inferiority complex talking.
Why is the documentary not online in full for all people to see, lets not try to be like the bankers and make money on this type of thing, Charles!!!!, what you are saying is very true but where is your video for all to see!!!!!!!!!!!
2/2 I want to see you talk back the way Clair Huxtable did, and get slapped across the face consistent with [4:34] of the Qu’ran. I also want Bill’s friends to come over and play some Poker, and you disagree with one of Bill’s friends, and Bill will say, “He’s right, his word is worth twice yours, woman!” consistent with [4.11]. That Bill Cosby would be such a card! Enlightenment could not be funnier.
I lost respect for Katie after her Muslim Cosby Show idea (cuz we're bigots)
1/2
Katie, only if you played the Muslim wife version of Clair Huxtable. I want to see you wear a burka during the entire series, because that’s what respectful muslim women do. I want to see lots of scenes where you don’t want sex, and your “Bill Cosby” plows his fields essentially raping you consistent with [2. 223] of the Qu’ran. Damn that’s just slap-stick comedy right there!
Great movie ...great job Mr. Ferguson...what a hero!!!! '"Alas Poor Mishkin ", could have been the alternate working title for this film....highly recommended! Gee we do see these stories on the corporate media...ever wonder why???????
Katie Courick is an Illuminati front woman. As soon as the "financial system" is properly vilified look forward to the same people offering you a new solution. And Katie Courick will be front and center to sell it to you. Because you are all very stupid, even as slaves go. Now put your mouth back in your chow bag, eyes on your feet, and continue your servitude. Or go listen to BlastFemur.
Well done Ms. Katie: Such an important topic. This film, and your interview, shouts at us about the problem of information control, and corruption at every level. The key is HOW to you get people to watch, listen and get people to push for a REAL change. Not just echo it as a political motto.
So government is corrupt and the idiotic answer is to blame government. The police department is corrupt so let the criminals police themselves? The real problem is that decades of uninvolvement by the public have let the "captains of industry" take over the only real protective body that the People have against the predatory capitalism.~ I have to say, Ayn Rand and Milton Friedman are FUCKING ASS HOLES and sociopaths. And this i a case where it doesn't take one to know one. Quite the opposite.
1. since we're selling government companies like GM, sell Goldman Sachs to China using the Repo 105 transaction to get the liabilities off our books to make the Treasury balance sheet look better.
2. stop using realtors. sell your own homes, save your $. Realtors lobbied for TARP.
3. the gov needs to stop obstructing justice?
4. take TARP back,, free market discipline.
5. no backdoor bailouts, raise interest rates. make banks pay to use taxdollars.
@21 Katie asks about criminal charges. He said he didn't know except for fraud.
According to Judge Painter, formerly with the CFTC made it publicly known that Wendy Gramm and the CFTC agreed to block any complaint against subprime dealers. That right there is obstruction of justice, violation of Title 18 USC 1501-1525.
Also, these subprimes were not collateralized and misrepresented to investors. The CFTC did not allow investors to pursue the subprime dealers, banks about this.
Subprimes are just like options. Subprimes are collateralized by bonds, options are collateralized by 100 shares of underlying stock. When you write a naked call, it's considered a highly risky investment and no one will allow you to do that without minimum net worth of $25,000 or the highest option approval to show everyone you can take the risk, if it falls through, the buyer can go after you for everything you have.
They did this with subprimes and the CFTC did NOTHING.
@18 minutes in, I disagree wholly. We should not have bailed AIG out. or any of the others. Why? Because you can't trust criminals within the government to do the right thing.
I feel sick, this is disgraceful, disgusting,.REVOLUTION is NEEDED
how can these greedy fother mucker get away with this, why do we have a president who wont do anything about it???? they all need to be in jail with all the money put back in our national dept. Obama is a criminal for LYING TO THE AMERICANS. I want my VOTE back!!!!!
@jazzx251 We all did. I feel completely betrayed. As a footnote..I like Katie in those boots..hmmm. But you are right...it's sickening. As soon as he appointed Geithner I was done. That was it. It's like putting one of the Manson Family in charge of victim rights. I mean.wtf?
@KatieCouric hey folks could we have videos in 480 or 720P ? I know there may be some agreement as to bandwidth, but please bump up the quality so I can enjoy these great videos a little better.
For the same reason Joe Kennedy was a great regulator in the late 1930's. Being one of he better shenanigan-pullers, he was stellar at how to regulate against those shenanigans.
Something similar: Who to install as senior military and security people in Iraq? Turns out, the most effective people were the worst of the worst of Saddam's crew. When field-grade officers were put in place, they stood around waiting for orders... or just walked away.

I don't think Obama's actions are all that mysterious; I've read he's going to need about a billion dollars for his re-election campaign in 2012 --without corporate support he wouldn't stand a chance. It's spineless and disappointing but I don't think it's a mystery.

Alot of people still think they are free, and that a democrat vs republican gives them a choice, its fake choice, the illusion of freedom.

I watched this film.
It was superb.
We need new laws.

JohnANoonan 1 year ago
@JohnANoonan
No chance. Most high level lawyers know who their paymasters are.
This is clearly a case where, on behalf of the people, the military needs to step in.
A martial law arresting all greedy people (those owning $10 million in personal assets) should come into force.
Those who've threatened the economy with their actions should be brought to trial for "High Treason" - for there's no doubt that they have harmed their country immensely; they should suffer the penalty for that.
jazzx251 11 months ago
@jazzx251 That will never happen. The rich own the army. The people own NOTHING. All you can do is what the hippies said to do 40 years ago. Turn on, tune in and drop out. Was Timothy Leary so wrong? We should have converted to more of an agrarian society years ago. I'm going back...Quoting Crosby Still and Nash...we got to get ourselves...back to the garden.....
davehutchinson67 11 months ago
I haven't seen this documentary yet, but most of the interviews I have heard Charles Ferguson on seem to address the symptoms of the problem only. The core issue I think does not have an easy answer. Guarantees from the Government is the blanket underneath which irrational behavior is bound to happen. Banks can give a stated income home loan to a pizza delivery guy who claims to make $200k because big old Fannie and Freddie will wire the cash for the deal. This is crazy.

@mulhollanddose ...A charlatan??! Have you watched the movie? For a charlatan, he is bringing to the surface FACTS that explain very well the corruption behind the US economic disaster. You should be VERY angry and taking actions.
You should be fighting for justice against these people right now. Not putting this man down!
frigidworld 1 year ago
@frigidworld,
Why did he gloss over the single largest precipitating factor to the meltdown? Government (specifically Democrats like Chris Dodd and Barney Frank) and the government banks (FNMA, FDMC). Guess who walked away from FNMA with $90 million? Franklin Raines -- adviser to Barack Hussein Obama.
mulhollanddose 1 year ago
@mulhollanddose Oh interesting! I think we need to be friends!!! Haha
;-)
frigidworld 1 year ago
@frigidworld,
The meltdown would not have happened if the politicians (Democrats) did not strong arm lenders to loosen credit requirements by the banks. The banks were given a wink by the politicians (Democrats) that if it all came crashing down on their heads they would come to the rescue with taxpayer money...Once we have dealt with that side of the story, then I will start pointing my fingers at scumbags in the banks that were behaving criminally.

Katie, only if you played the Muslim wife version of Clair Huxtable. I want to see you wear a burka during the entire series, because that’s what respectful muslim women do. mht123 1 year ago

The CFTC did not allow investors to pursue the subprime dealers, banks about this.
therealcaptobvious 1 year ago
Subprimes are just like options. Subprimes are collateralized by bonds, options are collateralized by 100 shares of underlying stock. When you write a naked call, it's considered a highly risky investment and no one will allow you to do that without minimum net worth of $25,000 or the highest option approval to show everyone you can take the risk, if it falls through, the buyer can go after you for everything you have.
They did this with subprimes and the CFTC did NOTHING.

"Why did Obama hire [those] people"?
For the same reason Joe Kennedy was a great regulator in the late 1930's. Being one of he better shenanigan-pullers, he was stellar at how to regulate against those shenanigans.
Something similar: Who to install as senior military and security people in Iraq? Turns out, the most effective people were the worst of the worst of Saddam's crew. When field-grade officers were put in place, they stood around waiting for orders... or just walked away.
