  • One of the best full CDs I have ever owned. I believe Chris's voice was the catalyst. I feel honored to be witness to such a great joint effort among friends.

  • @niwrad68 Jesus exists because you WANT to believe he exists. People use "God" to explain the things they cannot comprehend, thus remaining ignorant to what truly goes around in OUR WORLD, IN REALITY.

  • @Deimos820 Well using that logic, you don't believe he exists because you don't want to believe in him. I respect your beliefs, and I don't want to start a flame war, but you should respect other people's beliefs. That being said, niwrad68, if you truly believe in Jesus, then you shouldn't be dropping f-bombs and being hateful. Jesus wants us to be kind, even to the people that make you upset or hurt your feelings.

  • @Deimos820 Chill your ego, dude. To propose that you understand people more than they understand themselves is equivalent to making yourself a God. Ultimately, you can't disprove anything about Jesus or God any more than the religious freaks can prove it. It's all moot.

  • JESUS is a relationship not a religion.So FUCK YOU MrRamto 13:}JESUS ROCKS:}

  • Chris Cornell is an Orthodox Christian, by the way.

  • @kaxtorplose How do you know that? I'm really interested because I'm also Orthodox from Serbia and Chris is my fuckin' idol.

  • @CBFHVP My godfather posted a link on FB to pictures of Chris Cornell at his godson's baptism. There's also an article about it at the church where he was baptized, Holy Mother of God Greek Orthodox Church in Tallahassee, Florida. I'd post links, but the comment box won't allow it.

  • This album reminds me of Jerry Cantrell's Boggy Depot. :)

  • thank you for posting all the words to this outstanding album...... mmmmwwwwaaaaahhhh

  • Fucking rock, right there. "Positive atheism" is just a bonus. ;)

  • The song isn't about putting down religion, it's about how people think that possessions or worldly items can make them more of a Christian, more of a Jew, somehow. It is putting down religious marketing and profiteering, and it is commenting on the people who fall for it.

  • Greatness~!

  • One's lack of religion is not indicative of their lack of faith. Religion is the rhetoric that divides humans of equal faith in God. Faith is true. Religion however, is left up entirely to human interpretation. Andrew Wood, God rest his soul.

  • @Gogorewuzmeeznaym

    Nice remark!

  • i hate that rep u take it in my thought s of thoughts of my thoughts ........ its just kick ass music!!!!!!!!

  • FUCK THOSE WHO SAY FUCK RELIGION

  • @Cornellfan777 Religion only makes our life limited. And almost every one of them say that Rock is the devil's work. It is not. It's something magical and glorifying. Fuck Satan, fuck God. Fuck religion.

But don't fuck Rock N' Roll!

  • @andybirger dont you ever tell me to fuck god bro. you got your beliefs and i got mine, and i respect that, but dont ever tell me that shit

  • I love the song, but why is it that atheist are all about religious tolerance, but if your religious they go off on you?

  • chris cornell and brent smith need to make a song together, that would be so awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @paulak10 that would be a masterpeice my freind

  • Am I the only one who isn't dumb enough to know that every song on this album is about/dedicated to Andrew Wood?

  • The Christian Mingle website came up as an ad while watching this song.

    Sheep.

Hey Youtube, your algorithm can't read metaphor. Pricks.

  • @dosemeter The song has nothing to do with putting down Christianity. I think more Christians need to listen to this song actually.

  • @Eifler121 I was referring to the fact Youtube shows ads based on what you're watching.

I'm assuming the Christian dating service ad popped up because the word Jesus is in the title.

That's all. I never said the song puts down Christianity.

  • @dosemeter I understand what you were saying about the ad, and I'm not really here to support the ad, but the last line about not reading metaphor made me think you were commenting on the song being anti-religion.

  • @dosemeter that ad should also show up on metallica's leper messiah as well

  • @dosemeter I saw " The Third Jihad" radical Islams vision for America......go figure lol

  • Fucking cool tune.

  • I'm sorry TANK!

U should be here in Amsterdam 2 see this shit my friend.

Brother , bless U, BUT IF I let 'm in, I'M still fucked unil He comes down

But still I say, fuck religion and barbarian neighbours!

  • I wish some of you could see the shit I just took. It is more classy then half of you fucks of this page. Damn my shit might look better then some of you. So everyone just shut up, get the concrete dildo out of your asses and enjoy Chris Cornells superior vocals..

  • ahh yeah chris cornell's voice is so moody i feel his emotion - i remember when i first heard this blaring through the pa in a dingy bar with the drum intro - it made an impression on my impressionable ui mind.

  • Who gives a DAMN what the song is about!? It's a great song nonetheless and it's also an underrated and underplayed song from this album. "Hunger Strike" and "Say Hello to Heaven" (both are awesome songs BTW) are the 2 mainstays from the album but, this song needs more recognition!

  • @MadManLoomis seriously, maybe the guys who wrote and poured their hearts out cared about what this song is about you dipshit. Grow the fuck up and pull your head from your ignorant ass

  • @meushubris All right there, You Tube tough guy! Let me guess: you're from the South and have a huge Christian upbringing. Only reason that I can figure as to why you have a problem with my original comment. I'm sure Chris Cornell and the guys care what the song is about but, that isn't why I like it! Deal with it! Oh and by the way, how old are you?! I'm 35 years old and remember when this album was released. So go back to playing XBox and leave the commenting for the adults!

  • @MadManLoomis lol, I love you man!

  • @MadManLoomis well said man about this song by Cornell!!!

don't let any body tell you 'Jesus' is not 'messiah' here something humbly hidden...Jesus = 74 so does messiah and cross and gospel like a1 b2 c3...simple alphanumerics don't let any body tell you Jesus is not the 'son of God'... son = 48 + God =26 = 74 Jesus 74!!! God = 26 that's how many letters are in the English alphabet and letters make words so God's word is worthy the alpha n omega Mad Man they 're the whole Greek alphabet too!

  • @misterdeeeep love love love you mad Man Loomis!!!

  • It's not as simple as FUCK RELIGION. Just follow your heart and if it feels good, stick with it, if not, try something new. Just keep trying. And make sure that you put the flag up on your mailbox every time you park your car, and the world will be a better place.

  • @ewwitsthatoneguy yeah, religion itself isn't bad unless someone forces his/her will upon others based on his/her (not necessarily internalized) beliefs and uses religion as a means of power and control which, unfortunately, happens all the time

  • I have always interpreted the song as the story of a man with a massive penis who is offering 20% to a foreign showbusiness agent to make him a Porn Star. Listen to it again...

  • @ElJeficitoTheSequal i concur!

  • FUCK RELIGION!!!!!!!

  • @MrRamto13 not ur fault god didnt choose you out the world! nows ur chance to change that brotha! before u go to sleep again open that door and let him in!

  • @MrRamto13 Go fuck yourself. You know, if you don't want to believe, that's your problem and only your problem but you can't insult something that is important to so many people. I'm so sick and tired of those religion-haters. Noone forced you to believe anyway!

  • @Audioslave3

    SALVAE Audioslave!

If you want we can have a healthy discussion about religion, faith, christianity etc.

Maybe my remarks are not to your and others likings. But still I hope we can talk about these things so you can see I'm not the devil or anything. Or a air-head. I hope I'll here from you soon! Oh yeah, I try to have a pure mind and soul, so I really don't like to fuck myself, not even somebody else! Except when I'm in love and she's in love with me. From Amsterdam MMXI

  • @MrRamto13 I just find it ridiculous that some people are bashing religion so much when it's their choice to believe or not. I'm not that religious, but it gets on my nerves. It's your own choice. That said, I really don't like hardcore religious people.

  • @Audioslave3

So then, you are more funny than me!

But if you are not that religious, what was your problem against my remark?

What exactly get's on your nerves. Or you just wanted to tell someone to go fuck them selfs?

And what is my own choice? To belief or not to belief? Do you mean that? That said, I live in Holland where one guy sits in jail for babyporn! And where lot's of people call the police because they got raped by people of the church. This is the real life not from the bible...

  • @MrRamto13 I told you. I think it's ridiculous when someone bashes something he isn't forced to believe in. That's fanaticism which is a bad thing even if it means fanatically religious people. Yes, it's your choice to believe or not. And don't judge the sum by its parts. There are as many fucked up religious people as there are non religious people.

  • @Audioslave3 I was always forced, from the beginning when I was a child until now. So you don't even know me! But you have your commends ready. So you thought maybe I did not think about these things. I studied theology. Maybe I am still dum in your mind. Then tell me audioslave3, how can I live in peace with my King Emmanuel, if the world doesn't live in peace? Tell me how, if you can, how can I live in peace when I meet people who only want discriminate me? Sorry I find your answers mediocre.

  • @MrRamto13 Still, don't blame it on religion but on the people that forced you to believe who don't represent religion in general. I think you're angry towards the wrong direction. But I have to say I understand that anger when it comes from a supressed way of life.

  • @Audioslave3

Hey brother, I have to blame it on somebody!?

  • @MrRamto13 "I was always forced.." Who forced you? the religion or your parents? I never had a special treatment from religion so the blame goes to my parents.

  • @PayMoneyToMyPain92

I do not know your parents and if they give you lessons with love about your and my King.

If that is not the case we are both fucked brother. But still, I love you man!

    Until soon. Peace out.

  • Of course he won't make a song about The Global Parasites (such as his ex-wife, the mother of his daughter)

  • Re: "Protestant Christianity is what America is, concerning Christianity"

-- No. JEW is what America is, concerning Christianity

    Christ-Killers.

  • Lyrically it is similar to Black Sabbath's TV crimes!

  • @Inagodadavda did i say he did. I was just stating that Cornell and Vedder are a great duo.

  • Who cares about religion just listen to this song..........fuck

  • I spent all my Money on Beauty Creme, not Future Grave. Song is about Evangelical Preachers :)

  • ill give you 30 precent!1only if you give back the music to the world..

  • Vedder and Cornell, what more cam you ask for.

  • @lewisnuttall2 that they do some more work together soon?

  • @lewisnuttall2

Vedder had nothing to do with this song!

  • Allahu Akbar

  • @311Hurley420 amen God IS the GREATEST

  • @raiban19v Which god? Mars is coming to the earth with a vengeance and I don't really care for it.

  • i'll tell you what room this left for us, in the corner facing talking heads and finger pointers.

  • It seems you've got atheists on one side and denominations on the other.... where does that leave room for people that just believe in "God" ?

  • Love this song, love this album. Thanks for posting.

  • Their vocals are so complementary to each other. Two of them singing together are better than audioslave, pearl jam and sound garden combined.

  • @ytPavo

u do realize this is only cornell singing dont u???

  • @MFBueno63 Its actually Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell, Its Vedder up until the guitar solo in the middle and Cornell from around 2:30. I don't think Vedder was in any other Temple of the Dog songs, but seen as the rest of Pearl Jam were recording with Cornell I guess Vedder just joined in too.

  • @henryluvsplaystation ummmm, hunger strike?

  • @meushubris Don't know that one but I'll give it a listen. But then again, I should listen to all of the Temple of the Dog songs I don't know, which is quite a few.

  • @henryluvsplaystation Any of ToD is Fabulous...Enjoy All !

  • @henryluvsplaystation Eddie Vedder doesn't sing on this song, it's all Chris Cornell.

  • Uhh, didnt take it personally-and I sure don't identify with "them"-what I do identify with is my experiences with paper plate intellects such as yourelf. This will be the last "bicker" post you'll get out of me-I don't get on here for that. The song is great-hell, that whole album is great. I can't understand why I'm not a very big Soundgarden fan after Badmotorfinger. It may have something to do with the existence of Clutch.

  • @robothive76 i don't know if i like the term "paper plate intellects"but i do agree !this is a great album so is soundgarden and badmotorfinger !! and clutch is something i recently been exposed to,awesome

  • It's just not fair that these guys were involved in so many good bands when most people don't get a chance at one!!!!

  • That's funny when I was in South Korea I bought a wooden Jesus at a Catholic store but, it is a beautiful figurine painted artfully.

  • @kaxtorplose, you're so deep maaaaaaaannnnnnn, It's always funny to read stufff from people who think they're smart, explaining to the "dumb masses". You & your dorm room intellect. Fuckin' idiot. Really? Thanks for explaining the song.

  • @robothive76 Why do you take it personally? I wasn't explaining it to you, I was explaining it to somebody or two a year or two ago who had the meaning of the song wrong. Why do you identify yourself with them by thinking that I'm talking to you?

  • it's past 1am, I have work tomorrow morning and I need to commute 1.5 hours to work and I have drunk more than 2 pints of beer. But I need to listen ot TOTD songs...

  • Comment removed

  • thanks for making all these videos. when im drunk this will be karaoke for me. love PJ + SG.

  • Amen

  • WHO cares what it's about- it's a different version for me...... Thank you again Andrew Wood- and Chris Cornell of course...

  • let's all just enjoy the damn tune shall we...........

too much fucking bickering on You Tube............fuck me,enjoy the tunes the people put out for us.

  • @flyman If you think music is simply for just enjoying you are missing the main point that music is a form of communication and its primnary functuion is to deliver a message.

  • Comment removed

  • Kastorplose, here we go again. Have those 'checks' cleared east yet?. Ur catholic brethren has already spilled onto our streets in protest!

  • Really? I always thought the song was about masturbation.. I must of missed something. Lol

    I like this song.

  • OH, and one more. yes i am an atheist . your argument this is is about protestant VS. cathlolic. IS one more argument that is boring boring.

  • i listen to this song because cornell RULES. I DISAGREE WITH THE THUMBS UP DUDE. YOUR SIMPLIST COMMENT . and asking if everybody gets it . Rude. GOT IT NOW! . FUCK YOU ! I BELIEVE Chris cornell would ask you not to invade his personal space . personal belief in others messages is one thing. You make it sound like you have everything solved. once again GO FUCK YOURSELF.

  • @davyjones21122

First of all you sound like an ignorant douchebag. Its so funny how intensely so called "atheists" fight to disprove God. If you dont believe in something why dont you just leave it alone. And please dont attempt to speak for Chris Cornell. Every word you say is like a terd splashing into my drink!! I think everybody on youtube including Chris Cornell would agree.

  • @wslydaniels Your hilarious , how in hell did i try to speak for chris cornell? Your argument is seriously flawed. I admit i was a bit into booze cups when i spoke and cussed. forgive me i welcome a considerate disscussion. . regards . Dj

  • @davyjones21122

Atheism makes no sense. God placed something in us to know Him and His religion. You would never know what atheism is if God never put that in you. It's just like how would we ever know what a curvy line is without knowing what a straight one is. God is the straight line and Atheism is the curvy line.We know no religion by knowing religion so therefore being an atheist is just submitting to God's creation.

  • @kakashi1632 ... That is rediculously stupid. If i said there is a magical unicorn and you said there wasnt it wouldnt make the unicorn any more or less real. Your logic is based on conjecture of what God did. Live and let live.

  • @ljbeck123 Did you read what I said? When did I say Atheism isn't real? I said the idea of atheism can only be understood by comparing it to the idea of any religion that states you have a purpose in this life. So therefore I don't think atheism can out do or compete with a purposeful life religion.

  • @kakashi1632 Aw man, listen to yourself. You're just trotting out the same old illogical garbage religious people have been saying for centuries. Mate, if there are no gods, which I'm inclined to believe, then there are no gods regardless of what we think. We don't need to compare anything! Religion is just a way of explaining the universe and it's all based on centuries old data and theories which modern science has largely debunked. Personally, I don't believe nor disbelieve. I have no proof.

  • @kakashi1632 stfu and go tell your christian bullshit to someone else, we're just trying to listen to the awsome song

  • @chugnorrish Way to conform with what everyone else says!

  • @kakashi1632 youre ruining the music!

  • nobody's perfect :)

  • Radio clowns just never could figure it out. Why this and "Your Savior" were never played, is beyond my fragile mind.

  • What ever happened to just enjoying the music? thats why we all looked up this video anyway.

  • correct... there are also gideons, geova... etc,,, the black churces of s.francisco's torino... too many to say here...

  • matt cameron at his best

  • All socio-political-religious commentaries aside...this is a brilliant song, sung by one of the greatest singers of my generation. As someone who fronted a couple of bands back in the 90's, I would've given my left testicle to be able to sing like Cornell. Incredible song.

  • i love this song

  • I love how ads pop up for this that are encouraging finding religion.

  • @lowtherlars

The song is about religion, and it's not exactly unprecedented that some people, in the context of the song and the conversations about it, might mention that they are religious. Nobody is trying to convert anyone here. I was an atheist for 28 years, and it took me being horny for an Orthodox Christian girl to get me to even step foot into church. I'm just lucky that it was an Orthodox church. This song tells the ugly truth about American Protestantism.

  • I myself am blood bought by Christ. And I tell you what. This song kicks ass. Jesus knows it kicks ass. It is a fact that Christianity gets a bad name from the people this song is about. I am sorry to say that the church, (the body of Christ) is full of gossip and lies and is a profit machine. There will Praise God be a day of judgment. I would rather push a broom in Heaven then be king shit in hell!!!

  • best religion is no religion! atheist for life

  • @neagudan

    keep it for yourself

  • Oh and one more thing... the song is about protestants... who was the last Catholic TV evangelist? Was there ever one? Protestant Christianity is what America is, concerning Christianity. The song is about Protestant TV evangelists swindling money from Americans.

Everything else is just nitpicking. It's a great song though, and even though I'm Christian, I can appreciate it and love it, because it tells it like it is.

  • @kaxtorplose and Catholic priests like to fondle little boys.

  • @kaxtorplose

    great explanation thanks dude!

  • @kaxtorplose And to this I say thank the Goddess and her consort that I am Wiccan! Nothing against you or Christianity but it is a dogma that I cannot in good faith believe in! I know too much of the history and the theology to be able to effectively follow it as a belief system not to mention too much blood has been shed trying to make others believe a certain way for a religion that tries to preach love and forgiveness! But I hold none of that against anyone we all make mistakes! Right?

  • @slash121778 Drawing "magic circles" on the ground and using wands in rituals. Yeah. I remember the last time I did that. Back when I was 8. I bet you wear gold.

  • @kaxtorplose Being a christian has never done anything for me. Don't give me your savior.

  • @kaxtorplose I know that part of this song is about TV evangelists, but he is also talking about Symbols of worship (wooden Jesus, Porcelain Mary) I know that Mary is MUCH bigger in the Catholic religions than the others. So I would think that he is talking about all the organized monotheist Christian religions.

  • @kaxtorplose Oh and let's not forget the Catholic Residential Schools for American's First Nation People....they treated the American Indians real nice....NOT!

  • @kaxtorplose Yeah, because the catholic church has never been interested in profit. Look up selling indulgences. This song is not about Protestants. It is about the commercialization of Christianity. Which has been happening for hundreds of years.

  • To those of you who responded to my post by nitpicking between Catholics and Protestants, and the 10% income thing...

He said 20% in the song, ok? I know it's 10% in real life, but the song says 20%. It's still pretty clear what is meant. And Catholics don't worship Mary. Sure, they make a big deal out of her, but they don't WORSHIP her. And who says a protestant can't have a porcelain statuette of Mary?

By the way, I'm an Eastern Orthodox Christian.

  • If you don't lol at: "Wooden Jesus I'll cut you in on 20% of my future sin." there is something wrong with you.

  • really good song.. The Lyrics mean something, for those who say wooow what a hell is just a free will expresion... for another example you have the song Joy of Mick Jaguer

  • More Cow Bell!!!

  • this was writen by Eddy by the way >wink<

  • off to buy a temple of the dog album!

  • Dam them Bible beggers!

  • love this song..

  • rock on! xD

  • Genius lyrics. Very metaphoric.

    Religion with a bar code.

  • 2 thumbs up to Lekter for bringing back memories!!

  • i used this drum beat and speeded it up a bit in one of my bands tracks, nobody has noticed so i claim it ha

  • @kristianPJ That sure is artistically integral of you.

  • Can you explain what means "I Will cut you in", please?

  • @arturenglish He is using the phrase to imply a business deal struck with Jesus for a percentage of earnings from future sinning, which is lucrative because sin is rampant and unavoidable, and religious figures throughout history have used both guilt over sin and fear of not being saved from damnation to manipulate people into thinking they can help atone by giving money to the church they represent. There is also a very clear allusion here to the old Catholic practice of selling Indulgences.

  • @arturenglish it means I will give some..I will "cut you in" onn the deal etc...

  • @generaltreeservice Many thanks.

  • many thx for the loud-ish upload, friend. :)

  • 80/20

  • i think kaxtorplose is right but the only thing is, i don't think it's just protestant christianity, i think it's about every religion that has been corrupted by media who just wanna make money money off of anything they can. i think they use christianity symbalize religion in general because it is the most common religion and also the most exposed

  • What happened to stores like fye

  • Here's what the song means:

Wooden Jesus (a common crucifix), Porcelain Mary (a cheap statuette sloppily painted), and coat hanger halos (a rigged up TV antennae) all represent protestant Christianity in America as an artificial, tacky, mass produced product which is sold to the masses by TV preachers. 20% represents the percentage of income paid by the 'living room sheep' who are swindled by corrupt televangelists into thinking it will buy them a place in heaven.

    Everybody get it now?

  • @kaxtorplose well put.

  • @kaxtorplose

    good explained.

  • @kaxtorplose Ah i dont know one Protestant that keeps a statue of Mary, cause Protestants realy have no apreciation of her at all.

  • @MaestroInfernus

Ok, but that doesn't change what the song is about. Just add the words "Catholic and -" right before "Protestant", then go back and read it again, and it will probably make sense to you.

  • Comment removed

  • @MaestroInfernus protestants don't pray to idols thats why our cross is just a cross no jesus on it . go to a catholic church and it looks like a museum .

  • @kaxtorplose wodden jesus was a common name for door to door holy rollers such as jehovas witnesses, but hey close enough spaceman

  • @kaxtorplose Thank you.

  • @kaxtorplose I do!

  • @kaxtorplose Protestant Christianity wouldn't have a "porcelain Mary" so he could be talking about Catholicism too. Also, it's 10% that people pay in income.

  • @kaxtorplose Another song that comes to my mind is "Jesus he knows me" by Genesis. Similar subject... ;)

  • @kaxtorplose Yeah! And deluded religious people that really aren't all that good or moral but think they're 'good' because they have all the religious stuff/goods/books, they think because they spend money on it they'll be saved; society gone mad, but really people are ust cashing in on it-its not religious at all, they've lost sense of what their religion was all supposed to mean.

    Us atheists laugh.

  • @kaxtorplose you mean catholic,protestants don't worship mary

  • @kaxtorplose yes sir!

  • @kaxtorplose the title is actually a double entendre, the band was a tribute to Chris Cornell's rommate Andrew WOOD, lead singer of the band Mother Love Bone, which Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard played in before Pearl Jam (and Temple of the Dog)

  • @kaxtorplose thanks man (for explanation), i listened chris cornell from his beginings and always had dilema with this song and meaning of it. best wishes to you from orthodox serbia.

  • @kaxtorplose Oh yes we GET IT NOW but didn't the Vatican miss a chapter?
