it is sad that richter had so many problems when getting older. His cancelling concerts in the big western cities of europe were legend... I could hear one of his last concert in Paris, was great even if it was no more the virtuous richter with a virtuous program... His conception for any musicpiece was always great. No one did so much different music in his life....
This is what makes Richter such a fascinating pianist. His Appassionata could be the most aggressive and yet here, he is sublime. And his Schubert can be anywhere - but that is what makes him fascinating. He treats every piece individually.
somehow this is the first piece I always remember whenever thinking of Richter...specially those divine top melody pointing notes, it's heartbreaking music.
I also love Perahia's somewhat more lyrical and subdued rendition, wonder if anyone could upload it. his superb Lizst/Frank recital is sadly out of print
breathtaking

Somehow, the melody on 3:47 reminds me a lot the Titan Symphony from Mahler!

I have listen, and i think the player is not Sviatoslav RIchter. Is not his sound and style.

@LisztBusoni
The player IS Sviatoslav Richter... even if you don't recognize his sound and style! ;)

Beautiful. Is this the Hungary, Florence or Lugano performance?

@chazinko
No, it's earlier recording from Moscow.

The sound is very good for 1950s (?) - you did a fine transfer. Thank you!

this is perhaps the most beautiful piece i have ever heard, what with the arpeggiated chords and the emotion throughout it

Alfred Cortot once declared the prelude, choral and fugue the best piano composition ever penned. Richter does it justice.

Thank you for putting this up, it is one of the most beautiful renditions of the Franck. Does anyone know where to get this on CD?
