I don't know if Jesus hated religion but I'm sure he was probably appalled at how its been distorted over the centuries. We aren't saved by religion but by grace. He built one church and rebuked division. Division meaning denominations.
@svensgirl2000 Except that the Bible does give us religion: "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." -James 1:27
here is where I think the disconnect...The "religion" that is being railed against is these people that are "perfect" and in many churches you have to be "perfect" (ie, you have to lie and pretend). I think this hurts people because those new in the faith or truly seeking and trying to understand look around at all these "perfect people" and notice that they can't ever seem to be perfect so they give up and lose hope or look for a different path they feel they can trod.
It is impossible to not be religious in some manner. I appreciate what is being said here, but I also appreciate the "Jesus-Lover" video. I must say I feel this is a tiny bit arrogant in it's innocent, but not really innocent insincere approach.
@AboveNormalProject I think your first sentiment is well said. However, your final statement is an assumption and a judgment call on someone you don't know. Agreeing or disagreeing with the actual content of the video or interpreting it in your own way is one thing, but to read into the nonverbals of what you think is being implied is irrelevant and unfair.
Well said. As I understand the origins of the word "religion" it has similar roots to "ligament." I think those offended by "religion" are people who have a hard time being joined together with people different from themselves. I think that is particularly the hallmark of Christian religion. My religious practice of my Christian faith gives me a track to run on, disciplines to shape me, and a community to be a part of and accountable to.
Oh wait, crap, you're Kendall...what a hilarious misunderstanding!!! Can I have your phone number? I'm 6'4" white, Protestant, and I like Chinese food.
Good stuff! You on Facebook? I wanna friend you. If you feel comfy with that...send your name to josh.belcher@gmail.com. I really think your video could be as big as kendall's. You are both very talented. (whispering: but I like your video more...)
Danilover, I was the pastor of Covenant Baptist Church before Kyndall came to be the pastor. I pray that your "Aw, you're so cute" comment was innocently offered by someone who just isn't thinking about how that might sound. Remember that God chose David, even though he was the youngest of Jesse's sons. Kyndall speaks with a gentle and carefully measured style that I have come to love. Do not mistake a soft and slow voice for a lack of depth, lest you miss a message from God.
... I don't know how religion can be Gods gift to us if it isn't perfect... because God is perfect? His gift to us is Unconditional Love. But he has standards and should be feared and obeyed because he knows what is best for us - so we should follow in his way :)
Aw you're so cute! Nice video. But I think what ur calling religion is different.
Of course we need rules &the tools in Gods word to guide & lead us!
But since Jesus & the new covenant, we live by grace and in his Love because of his forgiveness rather than being "perfect".
First God gave 10 commandments. The Pharasies ('religious folk') turned it into over 300 rules. When Jesus came he took it back to 2 commands. Love ur neighbour &God :P At the end of the day, it's all about Jesus' Love.
