The way I actually did it the very first time I played was drawing the symbol above the doorway which was supposed to just give you the coordinates for that particular telescope. I couldn't figure out how to lift the cables (I do now, though).
Anyway, in this video I draw the pac-man just because it's funny.
What you are describing is what I meant by pac-man like symbols. I assumed that drawing the 4 different coordinate symbols would take you to the location that they indicate (and they are glowing just like any other slate symbol
I accidentally solved Todelmer that same way (drawing one of the pac-man like symbols). I hadn't saved and I wanted to solve the game the intended way all the way through, so I restarted the entire game just so I could solve Todelmer the intended way.
