  • A beautiful anthem, and a beautiful country. I hope I can return soon.

  • that is the best i have haer at all of the country

  • how cool would it be to belong to a nation of under 500,000 people

  • @Heath75032 Super cool.

  • pay your DEBTS,stop eating whales, withdraw your self elected fishing zone, stop smoking and stop hiding behind the yankee cold war military bases

  • @toonmag50 Please confront the icelandic banks about your money, not the people. Whale is good, you should try it, i think all the worlds whales can handle loosing 10 a year. We already showed you brits that we fish in OUR zone no matter what your rusty navy says. Aaand there is no military base here anymore, thank god for that.

  • @MinnDizK -Your greedy corrupt banks have defaulted on their debts-thats why the problem exists. Your people tried to enjoy the benefits of a thriving financial industry-like Switzerland- and would have enjoyed the tax revenue it would raise. But it failed -so your government will have to pay.-you cant expect good things without a risk-the risk failed so pay

  • @toonmag50 You really think everyone here lived like that? Its a minor, known part of the population. Most are even undergoing a crimminal investigation. So you english could aswell sit on your hands for a while until we solve this matter the RIGHT way.

  • @Gudnierskovinurthinn -Darling great (u tube) warrior ,descendent on of a skinny noski farmer ,dont put threats on screen and send them, after which you delete them- leave them for the world to see.

ps Farmers dont get into Valhalla- turnip boy

  • @toonmag50 WTF dude... your just all over the place here try to stick to one thing when you argue a point makes you look like you know what you are talking about! first of all I deleted my comment because I read it and thought it was not harsh enough....

  • @Gudnierskovinurthinn -I did not say you re the descendents of farmers, I said you re the descendents of stupid norski farmers -stupid has they could nt feed themselves. They were carted away to Iceland by Vikings as even the Vikings thought they were more trouble than worth. Got rid of them to Iceland. Arseholes in other words

  • @toonmag50

youre an idiot, obviously you have issues with Icelanders. Thats why you are listening to our anthem. And as for your theories. They are small minded. We are irish, norwegian, english, arabic, indian, turks, swedish, danish etc.

If you have a problem with iceland. Why the fuck are you even searching on youtube for us? Did an icelandic person make you feel small? bully you? must be the case, cause you are obviously looking for us. Miss us much? Biatch

  • @LarisBananis what is a swede sticking their nose into Icelandic affairs?-your empire ended years ago, looking to restart it as you"re three main streams of international income are in decline-Abba broke up in 1965 and you"re armaments are"nt killing as many peasants in the third world as they usually do,and volvo & saab are yankee

ps be nice to the Norwegians=proper rich, they may give you some cheap oil.

  • @toonmag50

they broke up in 1965?..... Abba was only formed in 1970 :S

  • @JepJep92 1985-its a typo-pay your international debts or remain as international gypsies

  • @JepJep92 yes Abba made a record called money money money-and your island owes a lot of it-so pay

  • @toonmag50

1.Dude, are you going to blame 320.000 pepole for the failure of 30 ?

If so, you are a douchebag

    2.Whales are delicious !

3.There hasn't been an american army force here for years, but if you brits wanna have a go, be my guest ;)

  • @Raggi86 -your government has effectively agreed with your corrupt banks -as a result your population is supporting the banks actions-

you re a twat for eating whales-I thought you scandi types were rich fuckers-so go and buy lobster and champagne

Your third comment is a comment of a 13 year old-land on earth you silly twat-you re not a 8th Century viking-and the population of the UK is 60,000,000- the Army has 100,000 -Iceland is becoming a charity case and international "gypsies"

  • @toonmag50

We'll althaugh it was not an actual war you brit cunts fled like sissys in 3 Cod Wars

And i'd also like to know the diffrence between eating a whale and eating a cow, it's both meat, it's both good so whut the fuck man, I eat what i fucking want to eat

And even thaugh we are financially fucked, we still have the cleanest country in the world, the most beautiful women and the strongest men

And yes im a fucking viking, got a problem ? Talk with my axe

  • @Raggi86 -your a u tube wanking warrior-go to any British city pub at night and come out with this viking shite -you ll get your head kicked in -in seconds-with or without your axe.ps the British Government bailed out all the investors in your gypsy financial institutions-which in fact your "government" failed to do.pps.I understand icelandic stock is NOT viking-the population is based around farming stock who were taken after iceland was founded, perhaps by the vikings-l

  • @toonmag50 fuck off you pasty white ugly cunts. English people are the ugly niggas of Germanic europe. Yellow-teethed fuck.

  • @VanOostijen -whats a dope fueled dutch twat threatening about ? DOWN BOY DOWN- dont be ashamed that your "country" the size of an English county is now a German state-but slowly sinking into the North Sea

  • @toonmag50 F*CK you and your crime infested warmongering, piece of shit pathetic country hope they start a draft so you can die in the hands of a Taliban you stupid coward!

  • Comment removed

  • @Gudnierskovinurthinn -well thats proof that you re hypocrites. You all fawn over your alleged Viking heritage, whose main contributions to western Europe was rape, pillage and plunder. Exactly what you accuse GB off now.

PS If you analise the Vikings and scandi culture, its obvious that any Scandinavian with "get up and go" mentallity, simply got up and left between 700 and 1066.

Restricted gene pool darling?( esp when you re the descended of incompetent Norski/Dane farmers ) NOT Vikings

  • @toonmag50 don't talk about the past BOY long after are forefathers were making a name for them self's (but this of course dose not mater because according to you we are not vikings so what you referred to as the contributions of the vikings to western Europe was rape, pillage and plunder.... so all we really did was grow farmland if a understand you correctly ) any way at that time you were killing Jews, Arabs and Muslims in the name of Christianity and we were just growing corn...

  • @Gudnierskovinurthinn -today this island has 60 million people, your island (only 20% smaller has 300,000 people. Case proven and closed, guilty as charged me Lord.

  • @toonmag50

Dickwad. I live in sweden. Im not born here. Its called emmigrating.

  • @LarisBananis ah ha -you bailed out of Iceland-following the rats when the ship starts to sink eh?

  • @toonmag50

No ive lived here for 16 years. You really r trying to hard. Spiteful little bum arent u. Bullied much? lol

  • @LarisBananis me spiteful-have a read of some of your fellows comments.? I"m just stating a point-based around bad debts and fish piracy. You"re winding it up into somthing troll like.

  • This anthem is the best! It could be in a soundtrack for a big time movie!

  • fallegt

  • Yes. Now, post yours.

  • vá hvað þetta minnir mig á að ég sé ssitjandi í kirkju

  • Very nice. I was a member of the London choir between, I think, about 1995 and 1998 and sang in Copenhagen and Oslo. So I've sung 'Lofsöngur' in situations like this and it was a joy and privilege. That and 'Vísur Vatnsenda-Rósu' and 'Sofðu Unga Ástin Mín'. Job done. Great, great stuff.

  • most beautiful national anthem i have ever heard

  • so beautiful

  • Ja, selvføgelig

  • Icelandic is a beautiful language. I wish it was more practical!

  • i don't agree with him after all. the anthem really has an extremely mellow tone that becomes powerful before the song ends...

  • I am "Icelandic by marriage" as my beloved mother-in-law used to say and I love this anthem!

  • by far the most beautiful national anthem, in my opinion

  • beautiful

  • wow this must be the most beautiful national anthem

  • All of Iceland is as beautiful as these voices and anthem and more so!! I have been three times to the north, south, west, and east and loved it with all my heart!

  • Great anthem!

    Norway loves you, Iceland <3

  • <3 !!!!!!!!!

  • Don't forget the Saami!

  • That is absolutely gorgeous! Angelic

  • Happy New years Iceland....Peace and love conquers all!

  • I've seen a video with a brass ensemble playing this anthem (the guys who play with Sigur Rós), but this version with the choirs is just mesmerizing.

  • imagine iceland is a big refrigerator what amaze!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No, it's mostley desolat volcanic land with (I think one by Myvatn) forest. Fjords cover the shorelines. Although it does contain Europes biggest glacier.

  • I wouldn't say all desolate - the east is very forested around Egilstadir... the south has a high concentration of farms. It's the centre and far south-west that's desolate - the north west fjords are green and the north is a mix of all these...

  • Yeah.

  • everything south of Myvatn is also pretty barren. Snaefell is my favorite.

  • @Paulbarlow Forested? I thought Iceland was above the tree border?

  • I come from Mývatnssveit and I haven't seen a forest here. :p There are shrubs and trees scattered around but nowhere near thick enough to be called a forest. Actually there are very few trees in Iceland. We're trying to fix that though.

  • fallegur!

  • In northern Norway it looks more and more like Icelandic. And in Faroe Islands it is very much alike.

  • Runavala, I disagree; as I student of the Icelandic language I can tell you that here "land" takes the genitive form and is appropriately "lands."

  • It's all about god... I think we should change.

And it's: Ó Guð vors lands, ó land vors guðs, not ...ó lands vors guðs (no S in land)

  • Gotta' love how the anthem is more hymn like rather than boastful like the US

this is better than even the Welsh anthem

  • Not all Nordic countries, Finnish is very different.

  • Surement l'hymne le plus pacifique sur Terre. Vive l'Islande.

  • Oh so beatiful! Wonderfully sung! 5/5

  • Tanti anni fa, almeno 16, ho cantato anch'io questo inno, esattamente nello stesso arrangiamento per coro a quattro voci miste.

Ancora mi emoziona... non ho potuto fare a meno di commuovermi nel risentirlo.

    Grazie Islanda, grazie islandesi.

  • Greenland was much better when it was under the Norwegians. You can't possibly deny that.

The first European expedition to discover America sailed from Greenland. (During the Norwegian era)

  • Hi Joikamed. Vinland was discovered by Leifur Eriksson - son of Erik the Red - in 100, more than 200 years before the Norwegian control of Iceland. The settlers came from Iceland and therefore while the populations of all were Norse, you cannot say it was a "Norwegian" as Iceland was independent.

  • Leifur Eriksson was an Norwegian born and raised in Norway!

  • Leifur Eriksson was born around 970, in Iceland. Erik had left Norway with his parents, he married Thjodhild in Hraun Drangar, Iceland and was later banished after some murders. Read the saga of Erik the Red!

  • Off course, i'm wrong, but his father Erik Raude is from Norway.

Scenario, you're from Norway and you go to live in Antartica. There you find a wife with Norwegian parents. Your son would still be a Norwegian, right?

BTW, the only pre-columbian coin found in America is a Norwegian silver coin.

  • Norway didn't exist as we know it now until unfication in 1060-40 yrs after the death of Leifur.Erik was born in a viking fiefdom. There were no mints in Ice, Green or Vinlands so all coins link back to viking lands. It was not a Norwegian empire. Ice, Green & Vinlands were self governing. Later I & G had Norwegian rule, & Norwegian bishops. But even if they came from Norway, they left their country for another-the UK does not claim Canadians born in the UK as British! Nationalism is so ugly.

  • Nope, Norway existed as a allmost unified country from 872 AD.

And yes, the only pre-columbian coin found in America IS norwegian and dates from the time of Olav Kyrre.

Just as the first Spanish settlers in America was Spanyards and not Americans.

  • and oh, allmost forgot.. Nationalism is the reason why we don't have super empires ruling the world.

  • Yes the coin was Norwegian but dated much later than Leifur - ie after Norway was unified. Spaniards in post-invasion S American stayed spaniards because it was an empire. Once the countries were independent they stopped being spaniards. Iceland, Greenland and Vinland were not empire, they were independent. But I get the feeling nothing is going to sway you. BTW nationalism is also the cause of almost every major war since 1840...

  • Ok, the first british settlers then, they were still to be countes as brits, even if they'd moved to America. (No, they were not part of a empire.) When Leif lived, Norway was unified!

  • True, Norway was well on the way to unification. But countries in those days were not the centralised places we have now. Leif was not born in Norway, and Iceland was not a Norwegian possession. Virginia WAS a UK possession. But hey, you're 20 and I'm 45 so this isn't a fair match. Good luck to you.

  • No it was not well on way to unification, it was unified, except Northern-Norway.

The first Brits coming with Mayflower was brits, even though they were not part of the Uk.

Hehe, acctualy i'm not 20 i'm 13. I just listed myself as 20 to gain access to every movie.

  • Exactly - not comepletely unified - and countries in that day were not like ours today. Those people who colonised Island etc were dodging taxes and the law... I'm trying to point out things aren't as black and white in history (my degree!) and even that Maine Penny has a question mark as it had a hole in it and was used as a pendant, and may have been brought over later or traded etc. But I remember being young and seeing things as black and white - good luck to you.

  • The FRENCH and BRITISH bucaneers in Caribia, was also dodging the law and taxes. But yet, when we speak of them we say French and British Bucaneers.

    Sorry for late reply.

  • Ég fékk algjöra gæsahúð í byrjun 1:29 <333 Veit að allir trúa ekki á Guð á Íslandi, en hverjum er ekki sama =D þjóðsöngurinn er fallegur!

    -

I got goosebumps in 1:29 <333 I know that not everyone believes in God in Iceland, but who cares =D the anthem is beautiful!

  • It makes me cry! I'm a hungarian.-)

  • haha sammála

  • Flott lag. En við verðum að skipta um þjóðsöng. Það eru ekki allir á Íslandi kristnir. Verðum að velja nýjann

  • Like most people can see, singing that anthem is not for anyone. I can't sing it, I simply stick to Öxar við ána or something as easy as that.

  • Nationalism is so boring - can we quit the yah-boo sucks argument and just enjoy a good anthem?

  • My Icelandic brothers! Remember, Denmark loves Iceland, it'll always be in our hearts! :)

  • what the hell.

  • Fardu i rassgat.

  • Truly beautiful. :-)

  • my ancestor composed this anthem, where icelandic/danish

  • Matthias Jochumsson wrote the poem and Sveinbjörn Sveinbjörnsson the song. It was first performed for public on august 2. in the year 1874. It wasnt though until 1948 that the icelandic government got the copyrights to the song. In 1983 the Icelandic congress agreed on laws surrounding the performance and when to use the anthem. A little bit of history from an icelander. bless

  • takk fyrir. ;)

  • Iceland and New Zealand, two beautiful (relatively) pristine islands that I will visit.

  • What a beautiful anthem song.

  • I am a german and my brother and me were in iceland last year. It is a very beutiful country and I must say god bless iceland!

  • very pritty anthem

  • It's the most beautifull anthem I've ever heard. I'm from Argentina, but most of my heart is in Iceland: Island ég elska þig !!!

  • haha fyndid ad eg fann tetta herna

    eg er islensk og stolt:D

en tetta er geggjadslega hatt eda svona soprano fattid?

    english;

haha funny I found this here

    I'm Icelandic and proud:D

but it's really high I mean like soprano get it?

  • yep ;-) I do.

    And it is. thihi

  • It's high in teh soprano parts but that's not everything - hey, my husband is singing and he is a bass baritone!

  • ísland ég elska þig (icelandic) == Iceland i love you!

  • Join to the anthem of Ecuador,Iceland have the most beautiful anthem in the world

  • Ísland, ég elska þig!

  • Beautiful anthem. God of our land! Land of our God! We worship Thy name in its wonder sublime. The suns of the heavens are set in Thy crown By Thy legions, the ages of time! With Thee is each day as a thousand years, Each thousand of years, but a day, Eternity's flow'r, with its homage of tears, That reverently passes away. Iceland's thousand years, Iceland's thousand years! Eternity's flow'r, with its homage of tears, That reverently passes away.
  • i love Iceland ever so much cant get enuf of it !!!!!!!!! i aint Icelandic but THEY RRROOOCCCKKK!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Keflavik base was closed on September 30, 2006.

  • There are many nice parts of this great earth, but Scandinavia is the richest and most beautiful of them all.

  • look how fat scandanavians AREN'T.

  • I love Iceland... I want to visit it soon :D So amazing and peaceful... Iceland doesn't have to worry about people like Bush :D Also, Iceland is the cleanest country in the world :)

  • one of biggest US bases in Europe is located in Keflavik, on Iceland ;)

  • It moved year ago :)

  • Oh, I didn't know it. Sorry ;) But it's fact, Iceland is wonderful

  • eh no.

the Keflavík base may have been "big" during WW2 and early cold war but it was nothing compared to other US bases in other European countries in later times.

  • My frend...the army is long gone...;)

But it's just wonderfull to live in iceland..;)

    Probably can't find a better place....:D

  • Yeaah I believe :) This is way I dream to visit Iceland. But damn, why is it so expensive?

  • The rates both air and hotel are much cheaper after september 15 and the weather is still very nice. If you rent a car, get a package deal with airfare/car/hotel(s) through Icelandair - you'll get some generous discounts that way. Avoid the 4 and 5 star hotels. The 3 star hotels are really nice. When you travel around, ask about restaurants that give discounts for hotel guests. Example: Greifinn in Akureri. Also take advantage of breakfast buffets at your hotel. It's high quality food.

  • If I have money enough like to go there, I'll defenitely do it, it's been my dream sence I was a little kid. So envy you!!! hahaha

  • Is Icelandic very similar to Danish? I am wondering because Iceland was under the Danish monarchy until late 40s I believe.

  • Hi. No it's not that similar. It's closer to Norwegian and Swedish. But it remains the closest language to old Norse.

  • Iceland is a most fascinating country and among other things the most 'Viking' nation of the Scandinavian countries (I have to admit this despite being Swedish myself).

The nature is awsome, the people are friendly and intelligent and the standard of living is extremely high (Iceland is one of the richest countries on earth.)

Long live Iceland! Skål from Sverige!

  • I agree, even though viking culture fascinates me, Iceland's most of all, incredible country from the pictures I've seen and many other things they can be proud of such as Lazy Town, Eidur Gudjohnsson...

  • And free hydro power, heated roads, best standard of living...

  • Not quite free, someone has to pay for the infrastructure! But, true, very cheap. And only *some* roads are heated. Of course you mustn't forget the earthquake and volcano threat!

  • Thanks, I always enjoy learning more about this country. Hopefully I'll be able to live there one day.

  • nice to be here...in iceland and i love it.. :)my second home..

  • My father is islandic and my mother is spanish, And I am so proud!

  • Strange you haven't adopted some of the liberal opinion of Icelanders and seem to subscribe to very right wing views!

  • wow i am icelandic and it is nice to know something about my culture id love to learn more and wow this song is amazing

  • I'de like to be icelandic

  • I'm not Icelandic, but this has to be one of the most beautiful anthems in the world!

  • Makes you proud to be Icelandic, eh? ;)

  • I love this Anthem so much I wouldn't want another for a billion years!!!! It's soo great!! Iceland thousand years...

  • It is so well loved that when it was sung at this church in Copenhagen, nobody clapped, they were all too moved. I had to edit the video to leave out the long gap!

  • are you from Iceland

  • yeah, and I love it

  • GOOD GOOD

  • LUV IT!

  • Stunning anthem....makes flower of scotland seem petty

  • Oh this anthem is amazing, but Flower of Scotland is also by far one of my favourite anthems.

  • FALLEGT :)

  • Very soothing.

  • it's a very melodical hymn.

  • :D I love my anthem ^^

  • ... OUR anthem >.>

  • BEAUTIFULL ANTHEM!

  • Beutiful Anthem
