Marvelous song. Thank you for posting it. Any chance of posting 'Stanyan Street'? I recently visited San Francisco, and seeing Stanyan street brought back fond memories of the song, and its words.
Glenn's voice was like a religion to me.I was privileged to see Glenn once in concert and enjoyed sharing the same air. Thank you Glenn for sharing your gift. We are all the richer for it. More please.
A favorite of mine; so glad to find it on You Tube. Thanks for posting! I play this every day. Never get tired of his perfect phrasing and beautiful voice!
What a lovely song and sung so beautifully by Glenn Yarbrough. He articulates each word, not like singers of today. He was the best of the Limeliters and made many great albums on his own. You don't hear voices as distinctive as his any more.
This album includes Yarbrough's best song ever: "If It Fits Your Fancy". It's never shown up on YouTube....a terrible omission. It's not on any anthology CD to this day.
Glenn Yarbrough's arrangement of this beautiful Rod McKuen song is so fine that I can't decide if I like his or Jimmie Rodgers' better -- they're both so touchingly done...
@50Emerald I like Glenn, but Jimmie Rodgers' rendition of this Rod McKuen song is by far the superior version in lyric interpretation, vocal delivery, and arrangement. Rodgers infused this bittersweet wistful tune with the proper mix of pathos and dispassionate detachment that made it the ideal mid-Sixties anti-hero statement that it was.
Jimmie Rodgers is the most underrated folk-rock artist of all time.
@sapphiretaurus Great comparison. Gale Garnett's song was especially refreshing for the fact that its anti-hero was a woman! In the Sixties this was a first - quite different from, say, Sandy Posey's message: "I was born a woman and I was bound to be hurt." Garnett made what truly was a radical statement of strength, independence, and self-possession that gave voice to aspiring feminists everywhere. A great message & a great song, sung with an attractive cavalier élan.

Eddy Arnold did this Rod McKuen song on the lp "The Everlovin World Of Eddy Arnold."One of the must have lps if you want to hear Eddy at his most versatlie vocalising.
Very difficult to find. Fortunately, "Time to move on" was re-released on CD format back in 1992. I know, I lucked upon a copy at an indy record store in Portland, Oregon.
I have an old Glenn Yarbrough album recorded at the hungry i in San Francisco, right off of Van Ness Ave.. looking for a video or download of his song The Mermaid.. a bit naughty by hilarious.. anybody????
@skogredd2 -This is a reply to an old comment you made, but I wanted to let you know about a version of The Mermaid by a Newfoundland band called Great Big Sea. I couldn't find a version by Mr. Yarbrough, but would love to hear it. You may want to check out Great Big Sea's version which is posted on YouTube and see if you like it.
texpaco.. THANK you for the posting! Brings some, very warm memories to me from the late 60s..during the VIET NAM era.....All the guys loved it then....brought us back to a sense of reality and a taste of kinda being normal , once again..into our lives! GOD BLESS..PEACE!!
I remember this song from an album my brother had in the early 70's. He had such a clear and melodious voice that I'm sure he has to be one of the most pleasant male voices of all time. The words seemed strange back them, but now that I'm in my 50's, I understand them a whole lot better now. Thanks for posting.
It took forever for this gem of an LP to be re-released on CD. I bought a copy back in 1993. I read where Glenn and his wife have more or less retired- They live in Mexico and he doesn't do concerts anymore (except for charity or if Glenn sees fit to perform). A great voice. A great talent. Thanks for posting this.
It just occurred to me that you may be thinking of another of Glenn's songs, "Baby, The Rain Must Fall". It was the title song from the Steve McQueen movie of the same name and was his biggest hit. It's posted (excellent post) by gcovert1948 on YouTube.

Great song that taps into the wanderlust of many American folk songs of the 1950's/early 60's.
Did Eddie Arnold also do this song? I think I heard a version from him around 1969.

On one of the Limeliter's reunion CD's Glen sings a song about how New York messed up his head and that he didn't make much bread.
This was after the break-up of the original group and I often wondered if there wasn't a whole lot of truth to the song.

Bitter Sweet hardly expresses the sentiment in this "fatalistic" song!
Glen does an amazing, touching vocal but again the song is too concentrated on leaving and death!
OlymPigs2010 2 years ago 2
No . . I know that song well and movie, I'm thinking maybe. . .
Sometimes a Great Notion with Paul Newman ???? Haven't seen that since the 70's though, so may be wrong.
Perhaps other posters may know . . . Anyone!!!
