  • This song has the best groove

  • coyote djatmiko.... very inspiration

  • very inspiration

  • Wow...rediscovered after more than 30 years!! Love this song...

  • Simply beautiful

  • Excellent!

  • groovy, smooth tune, and very relaxing.

  • Vivian Stanshall wrote the lyrics and his lyrics were eccentric to say the least but married to Stevie's brilliant music & vocals they seem to work, great song great album.

  • @skeheens1 I'm surprised to hear that. Remarkable. Viv Stanshall? Blimey.

  • This song bathes me in bliss.

  • swing and groove

  • 2 people's love doesn't translate unfortunately

  • this song is so hauntingly beautiful..........it stays with me and plays on...........I don't understand the meaning of the lyrics, but even without understanding them, this song somehow speaks so much to me, in music

  • don't understand the words either but put one near another sounds beautiful!

  • Epitome of a solo effort if there ever was one!!! All instruments, vocals, production, etc,,,,,,,,,

  • Musical genius !

  • @orioleman5 By far the greatest and a very underrated guitar player, I think he blows Clapton away. Wish him and Hendrix really had got together for an lp.

  • @jczother Not to mention he was like 16 when he became a profesional, Don't see that kind of talent these days,

  • @orioleman5 Oh yeah, thought to be a black singer. He came out and really blew em away, I just love when he plays guitar because he's more a keyboard player, but still has such a unique sound on guitar. I never seen a talent like Steve all around.... Plays all on this on his solo stuff and several with Traffic.

  • "I Need My Love To Translate"...So Most Excellent..to me Grammaphone means also All Times and Glory!..Thanks lapa36!.......(but you know..LAPD!)

  • No dislikes as of yet.

  • @UnderMediKated ..way perfect and excellent yes!

  • Not exactly Ke$ha, is it.

  • To me, this is a personal love song made relevant in 2009, when I met again with my girlfriend from 1977...a diver on my high school's swim team. I now live with her and love her dearly. In the early1980s I just liked it for it's musical quality.

  • Gimme some lovin'! Blue-eyed soul from across the pond. It doesn't get any better.

  • A scent of nostalgia overwhelmes me and brings back happy memories while listening to this particular voice. God knows what he is singing about, I do not care. I like it even as much as the music of Apricot Fire.

  • Usually I have to understand the song to enjoy it---not with this one.

  • you have taken some class pictures to accompany the song.....good on you son.

  • thanks steve...the ones who understand the song are the ones who "woke up!" ;)

  • ... doubt anyone 'understands' the lyric 'cos it was writen by Steves mate (and my god), Viv Stanshall ...

  • Steve did it all back there in 1981. Singing, playing all instruments, composing songs with quite very good lyrics....So to me he is a truly genious! Undyable album!

  • A timeless masterpiece, one of my all-time favorites. Still remember the first time I heard it 30 years ago, like it was yesrerday. Got to see him onstage again last year, what an incredible show!

  • you can sit around and try to analyze it all day....I'll be over here listening to it again

  • With you my love we're going to raid the future, with you my love we're going to stick up the past, we'll hold today to ransom till our quartz clock stops! This is mine and my wife's song. Been married 27 years! Saw him perform it 28 years ago!

  • I think the only reason this song made sense to me back in the day is becuz I smoked alot!!! For some reason I still like the song.......? go figure

  • I must be there on the telephone. I must be deaf on the telephone makes no sense

  • I do understand the song. i know what it is about. hint ...listen to it, then read the lyrics. i can not say, it is personal to him. listen first, write down, then read the lyrics. then you will know.

  • @atarex1 Yeah, ok. You understand it but you can't say?

  • thank you for this.,,know i know, thx.

  • Actually, after hearing the song for 10 times and reading the lyrics, I am convinced that the lyrics carry no meaning, no matter what the artist intended. Don't get me wrong, this is an excellent song, but you would have to be a schizophrenic to be able to interpret the meaning in them. I STILL THINK THIS SONG IS GREAT and thank you for posting it!

  • This song is incredible but..Maybe I'm a little thick, but I think the lyrics are nonsense. Great tune, though.

  • flying flying fying, the arc of a diver seems to me to describe the moment when a diver is in mid air and flying and this is the way a lover makes you feel.and no matter what you achieve on your own nothing compares to that feeling you get from a beautiful person who shares it all with you.it makes perfect sense.the pictures are a wonderful accompaniment to the song ,very well done .yhank you

  • Because with you I am stronger , we can understand that baby!

  • see a chance is great!! spanish dancer. & this song, altough this song is hard to understand

  • see a chance is great!! i like him over all..

  • @70smusicman Night Train on this Album is great too..

  • No artist today can match this talent....

  • A clue for those who don't understand the lyrics - think 'place' rather than 'person'.

  • Pity ya can't spell

  • Steve Winwood is a genius. His music takes you to another place (utopia).

  • I really can understand this song...It's all so evident to me...but that's me...like it.

  • funky fresh classic!

  • Til the quartz clock stop .

  • Another great song (and album) from the soundtrack of my life. Thank you for the upload. :o )

  • This song totally rocks. The whole album is AWESOME.

  • wow i really felt i was the only person in the world hahaha who loved this song i think it means that in Steve's personal life, his woman wanted him home and not on the road touring the road is a hard master

  • God, I love this compilation. I was living in Jackson Hole, Wyoming at the time. Horseback riding in the Snake River Range with beautiful Sally, aspen trees burning bright yellow in the October sun. Wow!

  • the song is about a woman , with much love too boot , love the song .

  • @70smusicman The lyrics were written by Vivian Stanshall with Steve Winwood along with Vacant Chair and a few others. Love equals the arc of a diver, it is effortless.

  • @BazLazarus80 I just "found" your comment, and I'd like to thank you too. From spending literally years puzzling over the deeper meaning in the poetry that is 'Arc of a Diver,' in just a few words, you helped me realize it was right in front of me all the time. For me, it's often the simplest explanation that is the most difficult for me to find. Peace & love to you, AHA

  • @AnnHattieAnn You are more than welcome. This is what the song says to me, each to their own though. I am glad I have helped reach conclusion.

  • It works very well. Awesome, thanks for this.

  • great great talent

  • Does this song/music have any flaws? If it does I can't see them.

  • 1981

  • Good job. Great song by a very talented musician. Thanks.

  • i love this song and love what you did with your photos - i have made some cat stevens videos with my pics ...so much fun to share with others

  • The lyrics are by Vivian Stanshall!

  • nice job

  • the man's a Genius !

  • the line is "cause my rock and roll is burning on wait".

  • One of my all time fave songs. Great job!

  • Mine too. It's musical art. The way he makes the repetition near the climax get lazy the second time is musical genuis.

  • 3:24 to 3:40

The second repetotion is rides the rythm. It's musical art.

  • Great job. Had some of the lyrics wrong. Neat to see what they really are.

  • Nice!

  • nicely done...probably the best tune on this album.

  • thanks!!!

  • Yiiihaaa.... I Like This Song Since 1983.....

  • great sound on this DL.

I'll watch the vid on the next play--I was squintin' my eyes closed and singing along on this one.

  • arc of a diver,effortlessly-thats a great chorus-great song-this man could always sing

  • ça rappelle ma jeunesse

  • One of my favorite songs - always interesting to see what lyrics I put in when it pops up on the iPod. Because many days it isn't what you have here, but I think that is the magic of music interpretation. It is what you make of it.

Thank you for the beautiful visuals and for putting the lyrics in...

  • I first heard this stuff when I was 11. My classmates were listening to Kiss.

  • Your classmates were dorks.

  • Arc of the Diver was this man's quintissential solo work.

    A classic for sure.

  • He played every instrument in his Night Train. He is awesome.

  • @nor888vast695 >> Roger that. I concur.

  • Wow. Winwood writes so well he makes you feel memories you aren't even sure are yours. Like James Earl Jones in Field of Dreams, "It'll be as though they were dipped in magic waters. The memories will be so think they'll have to brush them away from their faces."

Love this tune. Always takes me far from now, far from here.

    Thanks for posting

  • It's my understanding that he went pro when he was @18 in the early 60s and has been going strong. I wonder what this man has seen, heard & experienced in all those years? They had jazz funerals in pre-Bush New Orleans. Do these guys have RocknRoll funerals?

  • Awesome comment!

  • Thanks for posting it, great to listen to it again. I'm mystified by the lyrics. Beautiful and poetic.

  • Great song that really takes me back. Can't believe it's almost 30 years ago! Thanks for posting.

  • Heard this on one of the many music channels I have on Fios TV, really like this...

  • Wasn't that a good year to hear some music? Smile> Roseanne Cash, Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, The CARS, DEVO and tooooo tooooo many to mention.

  • Great song from Stevie. Thanks for posting the lyrics. Great video lapa36!

  • There is nothing overly mysterious about theb lyrics..they are sequences of metaphor intended to convey the often paradoxical feelings of true love, mixed with poetic expressions of time, the emotional reality of a man in love, as opposed to the mundane reality of the world of every-day...that's my literary analysis anyway..heh

  • I also like While You See A Chance good song I like some of his music from Traffic.

  • I totally agree with the whole not understanding the lyrics but loving the song.

  • I luved it mate.Well done and one of my favourite tunes.Kudos bro.

  • Thank you very much

  • Beautiful song with lot's of feeling, brings back great memories.Steve Winwood is very stylish, and the words of the song as a bonus.Great post, cheers.Sasha from AUSTRALIA

  • Thanks I am grateful for the comment

  • So how do you like my Steve Winwood video?

  • A visual treat, especially with those exceptional lyrics. THANX
