I played in a tournament at the Goldstrike in Tunica. When we sat down, each stack of our chips had a re-buy chip sitting next to it. Clearly, we all assumed it was a re-buy tourney. After the first hour and 2 players at my table re-buying, a new dealer sat down and told us that it was in fact not a re-buy and no other table had re-buy chips. They let the players who re-bought keep their new stack and let a short-stacked buddy of mine bust out a few hands later.

@ShadowShifting If u preregister and dont show up u blind out.....if you show up without preregistering and are still withing buy in period (usually 6 blinds)...you get a starting stack minus the 3 starting blinds. Now that everyone knows that rule nobody will preregister and just buy in on the spot :)

The problem with that is, if it's a $10,000 buy in, or $50,000 or something, and the guy who comes late has a legitimate reason for his lateness, (eg: delayed flight or something) he can sue I think since buyins aren't contracted.

The rule that sounds fairest to me is just leak the bastards blinds for every round he missed, regardless if his whole stack goes out. At least that way, there is a degree of lateness while also being fair to everyone.

Stop saying they should show up on time. It's their decision when to show up, and if you actually listen, he isn't complaining about him losing chips, he's complaining about other people gaining chips unfairly. He takes full responsibility for any blinds lost before he arrives. And also, it makes sense for the better players to arrive late, as it reduces the chance of a lose player sucking out against them in the early stages.

If you have a business meeting that can't proceed until you arrive, then you need to be early or at least on time. But, in a poker tournament if you are late, no matter who you are, the tournament can still begin. So you don't have to be on time.
