Dont be scared of cantering it is so fun and a great experience on a horse..i take lessons i have for 2 years and i love it and i canter all the time..
@spagssmiles don't worry I won't give up western! I want english as an alternative. Plus I want to teach horse back riding when I get older and I need to know both.
To add, western: sit down and do not bounce on saddle english: bounce up and down to horse's rhythm western: havin fun english: worrying about posture
so i see u ride wester. good. i ride western to. but just dont call a lope a canter. canter is the english term for lope. other than that, you and ur horse have a beautiful LOPE! haha if u need more tips just ask me. :)
@wildstallionstudios ugh. dont switch to english. english is for people who cant handle western. western is extremly hard but alot funner that english. western= hard but fun
@jessicalove2246 Nah it's not scary, it's kind of fun. :) But if it is scary to you then you should probably tell your instructor about it; they need to know what you're comfortable with or not. It can be dangerous if you do things you aren't sure of/are scared to do.
@horselover99100 I want to try english; hell i want to try all kinds of riding disclines and styles. :P Jumping is what really interests me the most in english.
@horsebonanza to be honest with u i didnt want to critisize or anything but i think western SUCKS but people do have differenses but omg if u r interested in english GO FOR IT!!! In my words i think english is easyer than western and i do jump my self its very fun and easy (once u get the hang of it) i have been jumping for only 2 and a hald years now and i love it u DEFFENETLY have the potentel i think u would look way better doing english 2 english i soo much more cofertableu snhould try it
@horselover99100 why does western suck? It's actually really fun. My cousin's girlfriend said that western is more comfortable, and that it feels more like your perched on the saddle in english than western. I still want to try it, but I still love western.I think they are both at equal levels of difficulties; it just depends on the person. Plus since i started with western, i might say english is easier simply because i had a riding background before starting. Doesnt mean it actually IS easier.
@horsebonanza im sorry if i critisize u in any way i think i might have just said my words in the wrong way i love western alot but i love english wayyyyyyy more well i showjump and everything for english but when i just wanna just go on a nice trail ride i always do english but when im in an areana weather its the show wring or just wanting to have fun i still do english but i like western alot to i just hope u dont think im one of those stuck up snobby english riders because i do do both
@KatiexKIRA haha i said this comment along time ago...it doesnt suck i just dont feel comfertable in a western saddle i feel more safe and better riding english unless im trail riding then i will do either =)
Today was my first time cantering, ever. Not to mention it was my third time on a horse ever. I really love it and suprisingly my butt doesnt hurt at all! (western) Im pretty excited to be moving this quickly through my lessons. Thanks for this post, shows me what to keep working for. :)
I canter western :) my instrutor is awesome! My butt rarely comes out of the saddle :) I have never done english though so i don't know if it hurts. Doing it western doesn't hurt at all for me. You should try it and maybe you will like it better?
@HoRsEgIrL4EvEr1848 Lol well I just had a month with no riding and got back to riding yesterday morning riding a new horse..my butt hurts XD My riding instructor says the horse I was riding (Comanche...A.K.A Coco) moves like a gangster with swag...like bouncing? And he's super fast AND bouncy so my butt is kind of sore XD Lol I'm going to try english eventually; i want to see the difference between the two but for now I'm sticking with western since I love it and my instructor :D
How in the world can you canter in western? And speaking of that do it that good? I only ride wester during trail rides. I ride english otherwise and even that makes my butt sore. X3
@zombiekilledurmum lol i don't know. I guess I got a better seat than I thought. Either that or my butt got used to it XD But then again my instructor is AMAZING and got me like this in less than a year so :)

@wildstallionstudios lol that last sentence didn't sound right. I meant you and your horse have a good lope! Just to keep that in mind
wildstallionstudios 2 months ago
Yah that's a lope :) cantering, you go smooth, you should sit on the saddle, don't bounce to much. And a canter is much faster in western.
Its hard to find good devoted western riders around youtube that prefer western over english or only ride english.
Anyway, you performed a good lope :)
