  • Hey Mike, I'm back for my 100th listen of this incredible memory maker. Thanks for keeping it on YouTube. Your friend Mike from Northern Ontario, Canada.

  • This song should have been number one on the billboard charts.

  • The song and talent level are great . A song this good is never produced by new bands - too bad

  • thanks for posting this song...only wish 1 thing...that pics of Rhianna & other modern plastic women weren't shown. The song is about a young man's longing for a crush to notice him & want him...there were many beautiful natural girls back in the 70's. I realize this video wasn't intended to be an interpretation of the song, but it would have been nice to just have some natural beauties from 70's added. When I hear this song it brings back memories, but not of crap like Rhianna and her ilk.

  • watched them live not long ago, and they played an epic bell solo. i dont know wat song its in, or if it was just a concert thing

  • This song has one of the best bass tracks. At times when I listen to this song I focus just on the bass and love it

  • Hey Mike, this is Tim in Leamington, On. Grew up listening to the Big 8 out of Windsor in the '60's. Thanx as alway's pal!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for taking the time to post this song, what a classic.

  • Thanks Music Mike from John in Calgary for playing these classic hits. You have a great knowledge of the business and appreciate all the background information you provide as well.

  • Like how they used it in the Trailer Park movie...great tune

  • whats with the little johnny one finger piano solo at 3;31 ??

  • Remember it well. Great song. Thanks. Can't believe it only got to #53??? Weird!!

  • Seen them at Steve Plunkett's Fleetwood Country Cruize in. They still sound awesome and Skip can still sing this song as good as the original cut.

  • MusicMike2 -- This is the apex of your videos----They are all supreme ,but this song is so reminiscent of the 70's and its superiority!!

  • What a great song. I had never heard this until Rob McConnell used it for bumper music on his radio show the other night.

  • Thanks for introducing me to more great Canadian rock (uncle John)

  • FYI....Here in Canada, we had Canadian Content regulations that broadcasters had to adhere to....

In spite of complaints, it allowed many many Canadian artists invaluable exposure to airplay, especially with the cross-border coverage outlets CKLW, CKLG etc...

There were hundreds of CanCon artists and if you search, you'll be surprised to find some extremely talented people and many you didn't know were Canadian...

    Remember, Canada Rocks...!

  • this song brings back so many memories...my first job and having a crush on the older girl(23) that worked there

  • Good background info mike, but do you talk this wau at home, with your DJ voice? thanks for the posts!

  • @jsilence418 ----Yes. lol

  • At 2:10 is the beautiful Tracy Lords!!!!!

  • This, unfortunately, is the album-length version despite his depicting the 45 being played, and the single version is MUCH better even if it fades down rather than include the proper ending - can't determine if it's ever been released on CD, though.....

  • One of the sexiest songs of the 70's!

  • my mom used play this song when i was baby girl i was only 1 year old

  • All I have to say is wow...I'm a huge lighthouse fan. I heard this song on the radio tonight and I recognized it from an episode of trailer park boys where sam loscoe sings this to barb leahy its such a hilarious scene. To find out that lighthouse sings this is simply filthy

  • Sigh...This song received VERY little airplay in Chattanooga in '73..More's the pity. But at least, I can hear it here as much as I want...Mike, you're a SAINT...

  • CANADA rocks

  • where can i buy canadian bands such as steel river, keith hampshire

  • Love your channel Mike- from the old "Drake" intros, to all of the music- I figured that the guys in the band, and myself were the only folks who knew this recording existed- I hate to admit loving this tune but I do

  • I'd first heard this as a Abridged Version on K-Tel's Believe in Music! Loved it then, and still love it!

  • Great track ! Thanks Mike for the song and information you have provided. Some good pics too :) Thanks again!

  • New to your site but will visit often. Like what you do. Keep up the memories.

  • 11 people are ugly

  • Hey Mike. Thanks for the time machine, man. It seems like only yesterday, these guys were playing Ontario Place, and I think, a free concert in High Park.

  • The opening music was a background track for some of Windsor ON/Detroit's CKLW-AM ID's back in the day of the Big 8....Anyone from the Detroit area knows what I'm talking about....I used to listen to the Big 8 in Toledo, OH when it was popular, and they played this tune a lot during the summer of '73.

  • YYYEEEAAAHHH!!! I'm only 25, but you can't beat '70s can-con!

  • Thanks Mike! This was one of those songs that I find myself singing sometimes and thinking back to high school. You always seem to have the songs I really liked back then. You need a radio show here in L.A.

  • @chiseled == Thanks much. Do you know any TV people out there?? if so, have them send me a message...I'd be up to a television gig for sure. Lol

  • @MusicMike2 My best friend when I was 10 years old was Simon Fuller, whom went on to create American Idol. Maybe that could be a lead of sorts ; )

  • This song never fails to bring me back- and I was a toddler in '73!

  • This song came out when I was 11 and represents the general feel of music I listened to as an early teen. I have not heard Lighthouse in at least 10 years. This song brings me back a long way in time. I especially like this style of music as it is played "straight".... no fancy production tricks or effects. Just a solid band belting out a great tune....

  • Great 'lost classic'. As of November 22, 2010, 11 people apparently were 'asleep at the computer' and hit the 'dislike' button by mistake. Anyway, this song is hardly ever played anymore on the airwaves, except on Sirius.

  • Great song. Remember this song in high school. Should have been a bigger hit.

  • Heard this on my way to work on Oldies 102.5 out of Ashtabula OH...sometimes I'll catch it on AM 740 late at night-excellent tune and has aged well!

  • love those guys.

  • Thanks for posting these songs

  • Thanks, Mike for posting..... You can't imagine how many people really enjoy this music. I gre up with it, and for me it brings me back to a great time in my life. That, and Lighthouse just had a great sound - and they played some great concerts here in Toronto ! Keep well, and keep 'em coming !

  • One of the best, MusicMike...keep up the great work!!

  • heard this on ckoc-god bless rock'n'ray michaels

  • Oh man,early 74 right there,thank god 4 u tube

  • Oh man,early 74 right there

  • Let There Be Lighthouse

  • Hi Mike; Great stuff. Have you ever heard of a Monteal based Canadian group called "Roadhouse"? They had one hit. It was "Good Times (And Loving You)"

I have the 45 but can't find it on CD anywhere. Keep up the good flashbacks. Paul from Toronto

  • Brings me back to my high school days back in the year 1974, this came out the same time as Painted Ladies by Ian Thomas.

  • Brings me back to my high school days in 1974, came out the same time as Painted Ladies

  • Great song which evokes so many memories from that time - We'll never see tthe likes of that era again --keep up the great work Mike! Remember the record bins?? We didn't need a monitor, tower or keybioard then- Kids are missing so much nowadays!Memories are 24 hours old now!

  • Saw them live in Barrie, Ontario last night and they are still putting out an outstanding sound. Great solos as all 10 are solid musicians. Dan Clancy lead singer since 92' has incredible range perfect for the classic Lighthouse sound.

  • This song randomly popped into my mind today; I haven't heard it for 35 years. Great record! I didn't know until now that Jimmy Ienner was the producer.

  • Mike Good Job spinning the tunes and given us all some insight into bands like Lighthouse. I am in in my late forties from Toronto,Canada and continue to like this tune. They always said Mike that Chicago followed in Lighthouses footsteps and somewhat copying their sound. Lighthouse was big in the day. Thanks for the memories.

  • Thanks so much for posting this....! I grew up in Toronto and the music of Lighthouse will always be part of me.

  • MusicMike you are a frickin' genius,thanks

  • Always loved this song, and it still holds up!. Clean production, just like Jimmy Ienner did for the Raspberries.

  • 9 dislikes??? WTF???Great band with great songs...reminds me of my youth...:)

  • So great to hear this band again. I saw them live back in 69/70 at the Markham Fairgrounds just outside of Toronto. They had a great sound and listening to this takes me back. The 60's and 70's had the best music. My kids listen to all the same music I did.

  • High school!!!! The best time of my life before I had kids!

  • Really cool song. Powerhouse horn arrangement! Love it! Thanks for sharing!

  • Great version of a great song. It would be very nice to record this song in uncompressed 24-bit/192k-sampling-rate 7.1-surround-sound format and, perhaps, on the upcoming Blu-ray Profile 3.0 Audio disc. In both cases, the sound quality will be VASTLY better!

  • Canadian in Ohio lovin' this.....much thanks....

  • Pretty Cool our 1st date 30 + years ago still have pics of Lighthouse.

  • Wow, CKLW! I loved that station and this song! Nobody plays it anymore. I DJ'd in clubs in Toledo and Michigan (including Kalamazoo's Light Factory) back then before producing documentaries like "Building the Mighty Mac". My favorite air personality on The Big 8 was Gary Burbank! He just retired from WLW in Cincinnati 2 years ago, and there's a new great biography out about him with plenty of stories about his time at CKLW! Thanks for sharing this excellent song!

  • Hearing this song reminds that doesn't do enough to honor their own, this is a great song from one of Canada's finest bands. We need a Canadian Rock and roll hall of fame, and this band need to be in it! COME ON CANADA!!! Thanks for posting this song..

  • I love this song, it reminds me of a girl who had the prettiest green eyes. Her life ended way too soon, but when I hear this song I get a flood of good memories.

  • Great site your doing a great thing on the WEB here, this is what the WEB was meant to be.Congradulations

  • I still come back to this post after discovering it 3 or 4 years ago(?). Had a different screenname then, but how ya doing Mike? Good to see you still going strong. This is probably my most visited YouTube song. Great post still..til later, Mike from Canada

  • @tyme4mike ----Thanks Mike from Canada. It happens to be one of the most popular videos on my channel after many years. My site has been taken down by YT several times....that's why the different screen name..Lol. Lighthouse is a great band and I'm glad so many people like you, enjoy them.

  • @MusicMike2 I guess you don't remember me? LOL A lot of people visit this awesome tune. I had the screenname "krazykritik" a few years back and because of YT's issue with WB, I left in protest. I once made a comment about the 45's collector's box on your shelf behind you.

Good seeing you're still on YT with tons of great songs as usual. See you around..Mike

  • @tyme4mike Hi Mike; Great stuff. Have you ever heard of a Monteal based Canadian group called "Roadhouse"? They had one hit. It was "Good Times (And Loving You)"

I have the 45 but can't find it on CD anywhere. Keep up the good flashbacks. Paul from Toronto

  • @paul6077 Can't say I have. I was just in Toronto last weekend for my yearly Argos game and sat right on the field. I lived there six years+ and still love the place. Gotta go every year or I go crazy. LOL

  • This song is so addicting. so glad my friend pm'ed it to me. Totally forgot about it, and yet it's one of my top favorites from my childhood.

  • My eyes just got as big as saucers, when this song started. I haven't heard this song in years. Dancing @ 9:00a.m in the morning, is a great thing.....love it!

  • WOW MusicMike is da man. No one knows more about music than MM. With the possible exception of Paul Gambaccini of course.

  • What a great song! TORONTO!!!!

  • wow, These guys ooze 1970s Toronto

  • This is my favorite song of all time! A DJ by the name of Capt. Whammo in Chicago (WDHF, WMET) used to play it for me all the time. Thanks for the post and the fine memories!

  • Always loved this song by Lighthouse eversince I first heard it on a K-Tel 2 record set from 1973(and they didn't edit or butcher it either) . Don't understand why it never gets airplay down here in the Philly area where I lived and the states for that matter. Only heard it once in Oct. of 1978 on an FM station I tuned in visiting Gettysburg,Pa. . But I do have a local radio show and have played it on and off during my 19 years of broadcasting on WRDV/WLBS FM.

  • How did u find a 45 that isn't full of groove damage?! lol all my 45s sound like crap.

  • loved cklw

  • cool record

  • This song changed my life. When I first heard this song, I started calling my girlfriend pretty lady as my pet name for her. I had been getting "maybe later" for almost a year. After a month of calling her pretty lady, she said yes. She's gone now but I'd give anything to back in time for just one moment and see her face again, the first time I called her pretty lady.

  • I had almost forgotten how great the music was back then until I heard this song again, 70's kick ass

  • Awesome. one of my favorites of all time ,,,,CKLW/ WINDSOR /DETROIT ROCKED!

  • Me too! I loved CKLW. we only had AM radio's. So we had limited choices. Great station. Great Music!

  • I agree with you horseculler, one of my alltime favorites from cklw Windsor/Detroit

  • This is just a fantastic song from the early 70's that captures the feel of the era. Long hair, "mod" & "boss" attitude. I am very happy that this song was not overplayed or heavily programmed (which it is not) on oldies stations today.

  • My father always talks about Skip in his early years when they were drumming together in some sort of a drum core band...in Kitchener, Ontario.. This is a great song.

  • I still consider this one of my all time favorite songs . . .

  • Who is the lead voice on this record. Is it the late Bob McBride?

  • Bob McBride had been fired before this album was recorded. Skip Prokop and Ralph Cole handled lead vocals on the album--not sure which one is on this song...

  • augustthethird...Skip Prokop (drums/vocals/writer) does the lead vocal on this song. But even Prokop admits that Bob McBride would have given the lead vocal part a "bigger sound". This song is so beautifully crafted however, that anyone singing lead vocals would sound good. Over time you learn to love Prokop's lead vocal in this song, even though he doesn't have the most powerful voice. It is maybe the underwhelming nature of his voice that makes it right for this song.

  • Come on someone tell me please, I love this track and I know that I've seen it on the soundtrack to something somewhere. Did an episode of That 70's Show feature this song at some point?

  • I heard this song today and it made me flashback to when I was a kid.. I remember when it was played on the radio all the time and that was back in the late 70's and early 80's

  • I seen these guys at the ex in 73.....they were there with evil kenievel.....I think this is a fantastic song..........very upliftingting.......

  • @sityslicker YES UR RIGHT I WAS THERE ALSO , IT WAS AWESOME !!! WILL NEVER 4 GET THAT SHOW

  • My parents used to have this song on an 8-track "tape" and we would put it in the old '76 Fleetwood Cadillac while we were cruising down the road. I always thought it was Edison Lighthouse for the longest time, until I just figured it out last year.

  • Seen these guys on Canada AM the other day. I have to say I totally forgot about them, I've been digging up all their classics on youtube for the past hour. Huge fan and I'm 25 years old

  • Heyyy! Music Mike ,thats for the great tune, and to Charlie Obrien, you are my favorite CKLW DJ as well....I miss the Big 8 and I long to hear the jingles and the great music!!Thanks for the memories, both of you !

  • Mike, great version of the song- Charlie O'Brien CKLW

  • If you really are Charlie O'Brien...just want to say that you were always my favorite DJ on CKLW. Thanks for the memories!

  • one of the great pop orchestral

    sounds..early 70's..

brass, piano, rock toys,,,the whole package.

***another one of those 'guys just gotta crank it up in the car' songs.....

**westwood high school, 73-74, Malton, Ont.

    jctoronto

  • I lived in the States but I got to hear Winnipeg radio and 63 CKRC played this one and later 58 CKY played it as an oldie. It's so strange how it never became a hit in the USA.

  • Such a Happy Upbeat song...Just love it..Thanks for posting

  • I'm 50 now but this takes me back to when I was what,13-14? I do know this was one of my favorite songs when it was out which makes it hard for me to believe it only made it to #53. I was living in Oromocto N.B. earlier that year and moved to Calgary in Sept for a couple of years.

  • it should a made #1 in 73' its that good!

  • Agree! What song in '73 was better? (There were better in the sixties, but 73? No.)

  • Hey Mike,

would love to hear "take it slow" another great lighthouse tune. thanks

  • What a great song! How did it only get to 53? Sheesh

  • Happy Song~ Reminds me of summer!!!

  • Cant enough of this song! So groovy~~~I find myself coming back time and time again...Im addicted

  • And the HITS KEEP ON COMING......

  • haha I love the first part, beats infomercials

  • years not "t"ears but then again....?

  • LOL good cover

  • I met Skip Prokop at a Christian concert many tears ago. It was featuring David Meece.

I got his autograph. Nice guy.

I love Lighthouse. REAL music, not like the balony that is passed off as music today.

    RIP Bob M.

  • This should have benn a worldwide #1 smash. I wonder what garbage was #1 when this masterpiece was released?

  • Well I love Grandfunk railroad so i can see the connection....A song that makes life good...

  • I heard this for the first time on the radio yesterday...And I made sure I paid extra attention so I could hear the title & artist, ran inside & wrote it all down very quickly so I wouldnt forget...And adding it right now to My Fav's....Just love this song

  • love them horns.

  • Can you dig this or what?...So 70's it hurts!

  • I like Jimmy Ienners production work on this record. It's nicely compressed like his big Raspberries hits. It should have been a monster record.

  • I agree this should have been a monster hit. It is a beautifully crafted pop song with great sound production. Amazing how fresh and contemporary this song still sounds today. A great pop song such as this is timeless and lasts forever.

  • It's strange that while Polydor was and still is a huge label overseas (as part of Universal Music), the label just scored just random hits here and there in the USA during the seventies.

  • Music Mike, Fantastic....The time you put into the visuals also gave a great feel to the track. Sweet moves music mystro!

    Chris / Toronto

  • Chris...I'm from Toronto too and I agree that this is a feel good track. I bought the 45 at Simpsons on Yonge Steet .

  • he sounds like the K-TEL guy lol.

thanks for posting this,i love the oldies.

  • Thanks for posting this great tune ...

I heard it on the radio on my way back from Niagara Falls Canada and it brought back a flood of great memories from a much simpler time..

  • saw them last night at classic cars and legendary stars in gage park Brampton...Awesome, except for the drummer being taken away to the hospital...hope he's ok..

  • Lead singer Bob McBride failed to appear at the recording session for this song (and was subsequently fired from the band), so writer/drummer Skip Prokop sang it instead. But Prokop admits that McBride would have made this song sound "bigger and better". Listen to "One Fine Morning" with McBride on lead vocals to understand Prokop's admission.

  • This song could not be sung better...Prokop'svocal is perfect.

  • Lighthouse is opening for Bachman Cummings(Guess Who) in August at Casino Rama.

  • Saw these guys live in 1968. They played at a school dance at Pickering High.

  • I love how Sam Losco (the Caveman) from Trailer Park Boys sings this song to Barb Lahey at a karaoke bar! Great song.

  • Toronto Rocks!

  • Old friend of Mcbrides. Truly a talent gone awry. RIP

  • hey..folks..70s child...or any era..this is a great pop rock song... i have had occaision to talk to and stay in touch Skip Prokop.. who wrote it..very nice man..whats not to like..great song..great guy.. keep putting the word out :)

  • WOW ! I remember this great tune ! haven't heard it for years, though. still sounds as good ,too. thanks for the good quality sound also.

  • I am proud to be a 70's child.

I will always smile for you : )

  • I am so proud to be Canadian..."I AM CANADIAN!!!!"EH!

  • @lalba07 me too and so proud. we have an awesome country!

  • @lalba07 nice country Have visited Toronto a few times -- Clean safe and vibrant I always fell like a foreigner but I probably shouldn't have - So close to Detroit area!---Just a state of mind quirk many have when there

  • I'm beginning to wonder if you know I'm alive...that feeling of yearning for someone is not only about pretty ladies, but for anyone who thinks about someone special that they want more than anything....

  • The singing is great! But I really hate the song because it reminds me of some pretty girls who blew me off.

  • ya there still touring mostly in Canada though

  • Does anyone know if they still tour?

  • they are playing at casino rama with some people from the guess who

  • this song and Badfinger's" No matter what"are my all time favorites. Great stuuf!

  • One of the best songs Lighthouse had out.

  • Thats cool Dude .Right on !

  • Ok I'm Related with one of the horn players Keith Jollimore i am not Lying

  • im beginning to wonder if you know ''im ALIVE" my favourite pickup line..lol listen for the one finger piano at 3.31 so simple so subltle,

  • I remember this song, it seemed to always be playing back then....I cant believe it hit only #53 on the charts....

    Great song.........

  • Great song so great i ordered the cd I highly recomend it.

  • lighthouse came to our junior high school in nanaimo when i was in grade 9 or10 for a lunch hour concert... they were great!

  • when this old world weighs heavy on my heart..I slap on the earphones, lay my head back, and disappear in the soul-soothing music of this era..this song is so outstanding in its ability to cause reminiscing that I find myself having out of body experiences when lstening to it..the music of that era..whether pop, rock, or motown will never be repeated..but as long as we got YouTube and cool blokes like MusicMike then our memories are in good hands..thanks Mike for the trip..

  • Dude thats not an out of body experience, you're having a flashback from that acid that was around back then......

    Great times and great music.....

  • Love that horn section..so full. .so alive. !! Great track.

  • im related to one of the horn players

  • LOVE THESE SONGS FROM THE EARLY 70sTYVM..!!!!

  • How funny to accidentally come across this song tonight. It was running through my mind all week. Thanks, again, Mike!

  • Seen them do this twice. Once in Thunder Bay and also at the Ex in TO. Skip sings this one, too. Love the backing vocals on this one.

  • patti anstee

  • Great, outstanding audio quality!

    Thanks!
