a plectrum takes away the soft sound from strumming. Alot of bands use picks when covering or transforming their own song into acoustic because they're USUALLY transforming an electric guitar into acoustic. I love the soft sound you get from using just your hand.

Its a CPX-8M (about 7 or 8 years old). They were replaced more recently by the series you mention above. As far as I know, the bodies are essentialy the same, they just improved the electronics. The one I'm playing has a solid cedar top with mahogany back and sides. They'e good guitars considering the price.
