On one end, you have the creative types, the technologically-challenged, and a whole spectrum of "non-geeky" folk who want a pretty, easy-to-understand computer. On the other end, however, you have a die-hard developer and IT community who appreciate the unix base that run underneath OS X.
Regardless, Macs are NOT gaming machines, and Steam for Mac is a joke (trust me). If you plan on hardcore gaming, get yourself an affordable tower and go crazy :D.
I own PC for video editing , gaming and other resource intensive task. I got entry level macbook for traveling (with windows via bootcamp so that I can some software I do use with pc). Both cost same, but pc bring lot of power while macbook bring good design. But in future I would go with pure macbook pro 15" with good graphic card and thunderbolt display, it will be huge investment but worth it.
I prefer PC because I feel I have much more freedom. It's a lot easier to change out hardware than in a Mac. Also, I prefer the Windows OS because it's what I'm used to.

@vaporthug If you're overclocking RAM until it smokes, you probably should stay away from overclocking. And searching for drivers? The only drivers I needed to get after installing Windows 7 were my nVidia drivers which were right on their website.

If you look at the mac pro, you can customize it on apple's site. They are overcharging, by a lot. about 4 or 5 times more what you would spend on building your own windows computer. I built my own pc. It runs 2011 games on max quality. I hope if you're a gamer or looking for a pc, you'll try and build your own.

i hear macs start up fast, but i have never used a mac, ive been using pcs and windows, nothing else. i only started using ms dos in 1983, and that was the first time i ever used a computer, and so i just stuck to pc. i dont think i will ever use a mac.

my asus gaming laptop was about as much as a 13inch macbook pro base model, and hardware wise it was 70% faster than the most expensive 17inch macbook pros, mac is still behind on some technology like mobile core i7's and dedicated mxm3.0 mobile gpu's which would murder and IGP macbook, i build and repair PC's and laptops, and the only time i would recommend a mac is for someone who is computer "illiterate" like my mum.

You can run windows on a mac through bootcamp. You can even have both mac and windows running at the same time using virtual software.
Macs are much better and you don't have to worry about viruses much. Macs never crash.
A mini mac comes in at £612 here in the UK. Probably something like $700 in the US.

actually macs are techinically superior to PC's (don't flame me just yet) in their code but i prefer PCs because of their lower price, gaming capabilities, as well as the fact that 98% of the worlds programs run solely on PCs.

Macs are good for some people i guess but not me, due to the fact that, well... they kinda don't play games as well, but i'm sure they are good at some things, but i'm not to sure cos i never owned one before.

honestly, i think you can build your own computer and hook it up with windows or linux at a way better price than a mac, seriously the whole idea behind a pc is that it is a personal computer made for your needs. besides linux is written in bash terminals just like mac, but you have to pay for mac and linux is free.

rodney your opinions as to why you prefer pc over mac are legitimate reasons, but you didn't really answer the question. like sure anyone who is a gamer will prefer windows over any os. i'm an extensive linux user and i have a windows computer strictly for gaming. altho i never owned or never plan to own an apple product, i think mac is actually a pretty decent OS. i think its completely useless, but its made better than windows.

But Windows's software is more secure than mac's software.

Besides, i havn't either gotten infected since years back with this PC, and if I manage to get a virus, it has to get through my antivirus, firewall AND other tools i use to see exactly what is running on my system which is very unlikely.
My point is that unlike most mac users, almost all PC users does use atleast a antivirus which should protect them from most threats.

@feralkuriboh Even if that were true, it would be 3rd party software. I have yet to see a story about a virus getting through a *security hole* in safari or any other built in application in OSX. Now windows, a virus attack getting thru Windows IE isnt news as it happens all the time. People who install antivirus dont know what they are doing.. Ive never installed antivirus and i have never gotten a virus in my life of windows.

I like Mac OS, but it's too limiting - you can only do things the way Apple wants you to - you can't build your own Mac and you're very limited at customizing the OS.
Just look at the iPhone - you can't use anything but iTunes if you want to transfer something to it, like video, music or games, unless you jailbreak it.
But because you can only do things the way Apple wants you to, it's also way easier to use, but we all know that's for newbs :P

my asus gaming laptop was about as much as a 13inch macbook pro base model, and hardware wise it was 70% faster than the most expensive 17inch macbook pros, mac is still behind on some technology like mobile core i7's and dedicated mxm3.0 mobile gpu's which would murder and IGP macbook, i build and repair PC's and laptops, and the only time i would recommend a mac is for someone who is computer "illiterate" like my mum.

RAM and HD are now EZ user upgradable. You can use bootcamp, or blow youeself away with a good VM app ( parallel), other WINDOWS apps can just be launched like an OSX app " with a Runtime version of windows. Its sick.

It has a 27" Backlit Pro Display you cant buy for less that 1K. alone. For another 1K you get an i7 4 core with the v fast interconnect Straight to PCI and all other IO including the 4850 ATI.

*starcraft (w/ campaing editor)
*Warcraft
*WolfTeam
*CoD4
*CoDMW
I can run all those programs and ther's no problem ;)
