He probably figured that the more controversial he was the more headlines he would get, so he based his act around the issue that causes most controversy in the UK. I personally don't find that type of material funny, but by going down that route he prolonged his career and remained in the public eye up until his death.

People from foreign shores were imported into the UK as much as possible after WW2 to help us rebuild our nation, obviously not all UK nationals were agreeable to this as immigration increased throughout the 50s and 60s, BM here was catering to the unrest using comedy which was not only funny but helped us all become a more tolerant nation today... well most of us anyway :)

I used to hate Manning, but I'm coming around to the realisation that his humour was never intended to be taken seriously. His act was a refreshingly effective elimination of the sickening hypocrisy and politically correct nonsense that we all are taught to abide by in everyday life. By all accounts he was most definitely not a racist off the stage and believed in true family values and coexisting respectfully with his ethnically diverse neighbours.

I don't think he is that bad, certainly no more offensive than Frankie Boyle (who makes jokes about paedophiles..hardly a traditional subject for comedy).
He actually says in this video that its just a joke, it might offend some people but some people can be offended by ANYTHING.
I'm no racist, nor homophobe, nor mysogenist, and even though I don't agree such views hold any truth value, I can still find the jokes funny.

Incidentally, taking the UK as an example, various surveys indicate some 40% don't believe in god. At the 2010 election, various parties with the word `socialist' in there name seem to have got less than 1% of the vote between them. So atheists clearly must support other political doctrines.

Presuming that you have the ability to read the odd newspaper, you'll have learnt that New Labour was a conscious (and successful) effort to ditch the socialism. And if the Lib Dems were so socialist, it's a bit odd for the Tories to have formed a coalition with them. Particularly as they're supporting spending and welfare reductions
