In the late 70s, I took a musical theatre class at HB Studio. I hadn't had any previous training. Anyway a young girl who had just arrived from Chicago was in the class and sang her song just before I did. She sang a song called, "Another 100 People" from Company. I just witnessed a future Tony Nominee, her name was Liz Callaway. I wanted to skip out of that class so fast, unfortunately I didn't, thats okay though, I witnessed the making of a star...good enough for me...
I remember watching this play at my college and it was a beautiful production. I remember this particular song from the play . . . . the musical arrangement and the lyrics. After watching that play I tried to find that song on Youtube and I'm glad that I could find it and I found it--the original version and this performance from Liz Callaway is BEAUTIFUL AND FLAWLESS! Her version of the song is the definitive one!
So great to see the original version, did this show in 1989 best showbiz experience of my life playing 'Pam' but this will always be my very favourite song from the show, got me through many auditions!
Just breathtaking. 4 minutes of goosebumps. I've seen some terrific performers in this role, from the audience and from the orchestra pit, But Liz owns this role. (OTOH, I did a production with Raul Esparza playing Danny, and I can't think of anyone else in the role).
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was one of the very few that saw the musical...twice. Ok production but what talent and great score. Liz is always incredible. hrumphga...I totally agree.
The musical is about three couple all expecting babies at the same time. But the husbands and wives all have different outlooks on the prospective new member of the family. For example, one couple is very late middle aged and the wife isn't sure she wants to have another baby now that the family has grown up. The score is fantastic.
I've seen many, many Broadway shows, but this moment in 1983 is my favorite, and I will NEVER forget it. I am so jaded about so many things, but I remain hopelessly in crush with Liz Callaway.
Oh what a joy!! I used to belt this one out in my basement, with Liz..Thank you so much for posting this...it brings back such wonderful memories of me as a boy belting out those wonderful showtunes. Does anyone think Sutton Foster has Liz's vocal quality?
liz has possibly the most crystal clear and pleasant voice of the current broadway female powerhouses...it is a shame we don't see her on the boards enough. she was AMAZING at the stephen schwartz concert at town hall last night. love liz. LOVE! come back to the great white way soon...you are missed.
I first saw Liz Callaway sing this song at the first Broadway preview of Baby--11/8/1983. It was thrilling! The curtain went up very late and by the time we got out it was past 11:30 p.m.! I remember thinking that this was one of the most thrilling act-one closes that I had ever seen on Broadway.
consider two things...she was only 22 when she did this and in 1983 video recorders sound quality was not very good (it sounds tinny). I've never hear anyone say that Liz's voice wasn't or isn't extremely pleasant to the ears.
Why was that audience not cheering their faces off??

It's great to hear my sister's Broadway performance of this. Everytime I saw her sing this I wept. Thank you for posting this.

Funny, if it's really you, I wept both times I saw you sing "blues in the night" in swing
