  • Kind of reminiscent of Europa by Santana

  • Too much gain!

  • i can kinda hear thrill is gone in the backing like he said

  • Steve is a friend and for anyone who cares his band is competing this month in the Memphis with Bands from all over the U.S. and the world for "best Blues Band" His wife Patty does vocals. Besides the Blues he can play about anything you ever heard any style.

  • Good blues.

  • Wow great player!

  • Oh man. That tone is filthy. I wish I could get that, but it's kind of hard on a solid bodied strat.

  • The main melody line is reminiscent of Santana's "Europa." He did a great job.

  • i thought he might of had a heart attack on stage. lol

  • Sounded fuckin great!.

  • What da! Popeye Harper rocks the dump again. remember La Vida dude?

  • its got a very minory feel, definitely a santana fan. this guy brought a unique sound to this contest, and thats some awesome tone. great player

  • yeah good call on the santana....the main melodic line is like the same notes as europa just different rhythm.

  • made of WIN !

  • sounds like the godfather theme at the begining

  • tasty

  • THis is a totally Different steve harper you do realise this, Plus our Prime minister can't (at least I don't think he can) play any instrument

  • hehe I know this guy. He was my neighbor and friends with my parents. Cool.

  • There's such a Santana feel to the first half of this performance dude's got some skills

  • This guy has a great style, it's based off the blues, but it's not actually "blues". It sounds like Gary Moore.

  • the intro sounds a bit like santana's europa

  • Was just going to post that. You stole my thunder :P

  • What kind of Gibson is that? I thought it might be the Johnny A signature, but it looks too fat to be that guitar.

  • probably a barney kessel. Not sure tho I only watched the first 10 seconds of the vid.

  • it looks like robben ford's guitar

  • i think his guitar compliments his body...but i kinda hate the fact that he started out with such a tone right at the start (so much crunch and distortion).

  • Hey bmrfff I know you are a buff blues player, seeing you have won so many contest, so why are you ragging on a winning guitar player.

Steve's style is like Santanna (first song)

  • wait wat lol? im not saying he's a bad player! i wish i could some day play like that! all im saying that if you watch someone like santana (as you mentioned him), he builds up the song more with his band...

  • he he lol

  • meh

  • This guy is a great player. It's hilarious all the criticism that goes on....he was at the KOB grand finals...YOU WEREN'T. think about that before you shit on him

  • this is a blues contest not that shit.

  • nice guitar center video,..

  • I was at the HOB for the '06 competition. This guy definitely was the most "polished" but his playing frankly put me to sleep (which is why he didn't win). Everything sounds the same after the first couple of minutes and he just didn't have the stage presence to be "the man" that night.

  • but matt o rey this irish bastard was the ''man'' yes ...???

  • i just cant feel anything when im listening to 90% of this...

  • I thing Mike Bloomfield was and still is the best guitar king.

  • Trying to be original eh??

Too bad that first riff/some of the others in this are the same as Samba Pa Ti by Santana...

  • ultimate porn music

  • @stonezero Agreed! Screw bow chicka bow bow! This is what gives me a hard on!!!!

"But not in the gay way or anything!"-Rocco "Of course"-Murphy "Goes without saying"-Connor

To those who get the reference: Agus na damnaithe fagtha gan focal glaoigh ormsa i measc na naomh!

  • That my friends is a jazz pattern... he pisses me off with his talking and stuff... btw is that a Framus?

  • he stole the main lick off santana's europa...

  • And he sucks

this guy should have cut off a toe before he played so he can actually have been feeling something stronger.

The blues feeds some of us and you cannot fool a man who got fat on the blues because he will still be very hungry after listening to you.

    The Eager Urger

  • What the hell ? This is the 3d guy I've looked at that was in this contest and I'm shakin' my head. THIS is BLUES/ROCK ! A "hybrid" of blues music itself. Always overdone and no room to let it "breath" . At All. It's a shame this is what's deemed "blues". The guy can play but what the hell...

  • This guy is nothing better than OK. He's a decent player, but nothing special. He can't touch Laith Al Saadi. He gets a little sloppy at times. Just saw Laith live opening for the Yardbirds and that guy plays some of the tastiest licks you will ever hear.

  • Shut up and play guitar.

  • ah..i know i'm way outta line here but i say that solo did that man no justice..and neither did that shirt ha

  • I would definately say more melodic. Im confused, that looks more like jazz type guitar to me. He is more rock style though on electric.

  • nice playing...the first notes are santana's style...the melody of europa...

  • Cool style, great playing too.

Can't believe the judges gave so much weight to showmanship and looks - maybe if you'd have burned your guitar or something (or played it under your leg)?

  • Hey Steve,

Really enjoyed your music. Kind of reminded me of Blues Shift by the Alien Cowboys. Check out their site and I think you'll really enjoy it.

Wish I had you for a music teacher.

  • i know that!

i liv in canada. and people actually thought that was stephen harper dont reply to me, im done with this.

  • Heavenly acoustic solo.

  • you idiot. thats not the priminister

  • it was a joke, the canadian prime ministers name is stephen harper

  • I didn't know the canadian prime minister was so good at guitar!

  • lmao

  • I've listened to all them finalists, and Steve Harper is definitely my winner in all aspects. He plays particularly melodic in an awesome and effective combination of virtuosity and musicality. His influences are not to be traced so easily as all other competitors... he's got a voice of his own. I also love his sound. Peace!

  • Sounds pretty good. Unique style, kinda reminds me of santana. Not bad harper. I could actually hear him on the acoustic.

  • This dude should have a recording contract.

  • O'Ree needs to take lessons from Mr. Harper.

  • Beautiful playing.. great tone, feel and technique...the backing was a little bland though, may have cost him...

  • intro sounds very santa-esque

  • santa..?

  • I Meant Santana

  • Dude from the 1st note you possess greatness. Great phrasing, tone and vibrato. Great emotion. 5 stars

  • this guy straight up should have won, he played much cleaner than everyone else and the music was better aswell, how'd o ree win over this guy

  • Nice!!

  • Hey Bro WE MISS YOU IN VEGAS! When are you guys coming back to visit!!

  • your sooooooooo boring...........

  • I think he should have gone for the "The Thrill Has Gone" style backing. This is not bluesy enough to me.

  • hello..the guy who won cannot hold a candle to this guy..the whole thing had to be fixed. excuse me i know music--steve was by far the best of this group..lol

  • Great playing! every other finalist I see makes the O'Ree win even more of a sham. I want to see and hear great playing over jumping around like a monkey.

  • How did this gent lose to that douchenozzle who won? Those judges must suffer from severe mental retardation.

  • I agree with you..The winners dad must own major stock in GC.

  • bit too much gain for my taste but great soul and playing!
