  • Joey Vann was original lead singer. Mike replaced him.

  • AÚN CUANDO SEAMOS DE DIFERENTES NACIONALIDADES,NOS UNE EL MISMO GUSTO POR ESTAS LINDAS MELODIAS,SALUDOS,KABOBIT2,DESDE EL BELLO ESTADO DE SONORA MEXICO.

  • I don't remember him as being chubb, at all.

  • Just a masterpieced of vocalizing--Mike at his finest, & The Duprees at their very best, IMHO. Wolfsky9.

  • Timeless & note perfect, Mike & The guys at their finest. Wolfsky9

  • This was my favorite Duprees recording.....great song, great lead, great group AND arrangement!

  • Mike had so many colors to his voice, he could do the standard polished Dupree sound but when he wanted he could make his voice sort of cry as he does on this song and even have a bit of street corner vibrato if needed.

  • Get these guys off the stage.

  • Joey sung this song, I don't know how Mike recorded it but I know that Joey did it first. I sure wish I could find the one that Joey sang, it would mean a lot to me if I could find it. I snuck in the Bay Lounge to see him perform in 1964 (all of 14 years old), and he sung that song and it was magic!

  • @EHDROCK Well it was a Joni James song and as Dupree lore has it Joey's sister was a fan of hers , and since they all sang together at different times and hung out in John Savaltos basement it is quite possible, though I have heard The Coed demos of Mike singing My Own True Love with a falsetto beginning which is how they did it before Coed put them with that big band leader, I know Mike did have a contract which would not allow him do sing for Coed records at the time so Joey stepped in.

  • LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great original version. All in all,I happen to like the Bon-aires version better, but Kelly`s lead is superior and the Duprees ending is more satisfying. Both versions could have been top-10 hits with better marketing!

  • @thebigfist There are two versions of this, one from the 45 & one from the LP both by the Duprees, this is the LP version.

  • Joey Vann was the original lead.He sang all the hits........

  • @roona2

    Vanns name was Canzano.

  • THE ORIGINAL DUPREES,THE BEST!!!

  • god bless the duprees, the originals will live forever in their music.

  • THE BEST!!!!!

  • IMHO, Mike Kelly's finest vocaL, ever. Just plain, beautiful. Wolfsky9

  • BEAUTIFUL,SING IT MIKE!!!

  • I love this song.......should be more song like this.... thank you

  • Mike Kelly will be interviewed on Ken Held's Doo Wop Shop this Sunday Jan. 3rd,2010 - 4-8PM on 1040 AM WLVJ. The show originates from Florida and can be accessed thru your computer by following the prompts. Ken will be playing previously unreleased old and new music by Mike-the ORIGINAL lead singer of the Duprees-the voice on the demos that got the Duprees the record deal with COED records. Don't miss it.

  • I just never, ever tire of this vocal masterpiece from Mike, Joe, John, & Mike A, " Smokey". This is singing as good as it can be done--by anyone, at any time, anywhere; Timeless, & Forever. Wolfsky9

  • What a beautiful song!!!

  • Great version, thanks for sending my way!!

  • Next to " Have You Heard", this is my all-time favorite by The Fabulous Duprees! Listen closely: they never, ever, sounded better than they did on this classic remake of Joni James 50's hit. Mike, your voice will live on forever. GBY to you, & the Original Duprees!! Wolfsky9

  • Well said!!!!

  • I really don't care who was or who was not their first a lead singer, Joey or Mike , both have great voices suited to this music, My comment a lovely song with the original lead might piss some off such as Doowopper51, well it does not matter to me who was first the spirit of the comment was and is , these are at least the Duprees who sang on all those records , Mike on latter ones as opposed to the group singing as The Duprees now.

  • LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVE IT,

  • p.s. and its "no sin"

  • could you please post" love eyes",its one of my favorite songs by the wonderful duprees

  • To all Duprees Fans,

It appears that Mike Kelly and John Salvato of the "Original" Duprees are winning the fight to reclaim the right to perform as the Duprees...Mike Kelly has a great Facebook Page...Search Mike Kelly/Duprees and you should get there. Request to be a friend and give them your support...You'll be kept up to date as to when their legendary sound will be heard one more...Vito O

    Eddie, The Five Sharks

  • I't s great to hear Mike Singing . I'm looking forward to hearing and seeing him perform again. Theres no one else like him! I can't wait. GOOD LUCK MIKE!!

  • Joe Santollo is my dad's Uncle!! Im not kidding. Sadly he past away

  • In my very humble opinion, the vocals in this song are as good as singing can get.; A Masterpiece. Wolfsky9

  • Hi Wolfsky9...have you heard Mike's version of Exodus? Look it up.

    Barbara :)

  • The Original Duprees.......Often copied but ,NEVER duplicated!!

    Thanks Kabobit2

  • Joe Santollo is my uncle i swear on the bible no crosses count his brother emanuel is my grandpa and he told me when it all started in his basment

  • This is, in my humble opinion, Mike Kelly's finest vocal, & The Duprees at their very best, in the late 60's, early 70's. Just a gorgeous vocal & arrangement. Thank-you Mike, Joe, John & Mike A. Wolfsky9

  • Looks like the original lead singer Mike Kelly may end up with the Duprees name after all. I just heard that the court denied the current group's attempt to dismiss original lead singer Mike Kelly's case.

  • This is great news! Where did you hear this?

  • and why was Joey Vann called Chubby?

  • Back in the day, Mike Kelly used to sing "To be with you" like no one else could . Beautiful. Its too bad he never recorded it. Maybe one day.

  • am listening to Two Different Worlds right now. :) Now, that''s a good song too!

  • Lots of people agree with you - they love Sky's The Limit -- I haven't warmed up to it completely.... I think I'll go listen to it now and try to analyze why. lol

  • Columbia Records had no clue what to do with this group

and they never had success after Chubby Vann till they hooked up with Jerry Ross but the greatest Mike Kelly lead is "The Sky's the Limit" on Heritage and also on Colossus label. This cut still stands the test of time-great vocals-great hook and the Coed horns!A Mike Kelly Favorite-just ask him!

  • I like Mike Kelly's version of the Exodus song on Columbia.

  • never heard his version of Exodus. Where does one find it? He needs to re-release his old music. :) I love 'Let Them Talk' - an real oldie.. with doo wop overtones (or undertones).

  • and I just realized that I can't listen to Let Them Talk anymore -- because the Duprees website was taken down. :(

  • ok, so, when are we going to hear him in person again along with Salvato ? We are waiting patiently.

  • @Kabobit2

    A really great song!!!!!

  • @Kabobit2 Possibly the best!

  • @EdgardosGirl81204

WHO THE HELL IS CHUBBY VANN?????!!!!!!

  • @dcvietvet Joey Vann originally Canzano was a chubby kid and it stuck lovingly as a nickname for him in their New Jersey neighborhood

  • As sweet as morning mist

Are the lips that heaven kissed

    As endless as the sea

Is the love that you gave to me

And what have I to give

    My love, my love

As long as I shall live

    You'll always be my love

    SHE'LL ALWAYS BE...MY LOVE...ALWAYS

  • Who makes the robin sing

    My love, my love

Who brings the joy to spring

Who else but you my love

Who makes my poor heart cry

    My love, my love

Whose eyes are stars on high

None else but yours my love

  • Does anyone know the status of the court case pending?

  • Hi! Who made this video? I'm Mike Santollo, Joey's Santollo's nephew. Just wanted to say great job!

  • Mike - check your Youtube email account - I responded in your email.

  • Do you sir know how I can get in touch with Mike Kelly? Email or anything, I am such a big fan of the Duprees I wanted to possibly hire him for a private party! for my father surprise 67th he loves them now and when he was growing up!

  • @shithead381

Sadly, he does not respond to e mails, from fans......

  • Dear Mike,

Are you the creator of the Duprees (dot com) website? I really think its a very nice website, and I wonder if you would go back and update it ...someday...soon? With all the changes the Duprees are going through, have gone through, would love to see some new stuff. How about current pics of the guys who are still with us? thanks.

  • The website you are talking about with the Parisiens demos on it seems to be defunck at this point , don't know why I have loved it for years.

    Eddie , The Five Sharks

  • I like their version.

  • My veryfavorite Mike Kelly lead. I've said thisbefore, & I say it here: this was the very best era of The Duprees. Joey V. & Richie R. are wonderful in their own right, but--taken as a whole--musically--this era--" The Heritage Years" has The Duprees at their very best vocally, hands-down. Mike's voice was just awesome. Wolfsky9

  • This was just beautiful. Brought tears to my eyes to hear this sound and know a little bit of the history. Wonderful, thank you so much for posting.

  • Another great performance by Mike Kelly and the Duprees. Thanks for posting!

  • nice

  • This is a very nice rendition of a Joni James classic.

  • someone I know, who knew Kelly back in "the day", once gave this description of him

"its wasn't so much his incredible one of a kind voices, but his personality as well... he smiled at you... and glowed with the 'bird that ate the canary' kind of look. very flirty...full of the dickens!

He does seem to have something special about him.

  • We need more Uncle Festus productions- this guy puts things together with accuracy- thanks Uncle Festus

  • Thanks Twisted - We work hard here at Uncle Festus Productions - and let me tell you, the pay ain't great.

  • a wonderful group,im so glad i got to see the real group, not the phonies singing today

  • Wow!! What a great job, Kabobit2, you did a great job, Mike Kelly is such a handsome Lead and he sounds so sweet in this song. love it. Thanks, Lorna
