  • Absolutely 100% pure drivelly dribbly newly landed virgin snotty mucus phlegm!

  • R.I.P. Kenneth Mars

  • 1:35

Listen, this is a not place to talk. Come! We go to my flat. An occasion like this calls for Schnapps!

  • "now Hitler, there was a painter. He could paint an apartment in one afternoon - TWO COATS!" sheer genius

  • I'm doing franz's hitler monologue in college

  • en argentina se la habia estrenado como POR UN FRACASO,MILLONARIOS

  • My favorite is the blue blanket scene. This version is perfect. The remake is about as funny as Auschwitz.

  • Kenneth Mars was a genius

    Will Farrell is a hack.

  • and then in 1989, Kenneth Mars voices a Merman...

  • I am a yankee doodle dandy...

  • he's like steamboat willie from saving private ryan!

  • The funniest thing is Gene Wilder can't keep a straight face when he's around Kenny Mars.

  • why does this remind me of the Tea party people.

  • this is one of the times i hate bein a girl because then i cant play the crazy nazi guy who lives on a roof for my school remake of the producers. lolXD

  • will ferrell is great but he is no match for this-brilliant!

  • keep pressing 4

  • Seeing as the screenplay was written for Broadway in the first place, I was all for the theatrical remake. The only thing that really bothered me was Matthew Broderick, who took nearly all of the humor out of the character with his awkward performance.

  • All I could think about while watching this was: Willy Wonka.

  • Kenneth Mars is playing this role way over the top

  • @TulseLuper So right on

  • 2 examples of great movies being remade into mediocre musical versions are the 2005 musical version of THE PRODUCERS and MAME with Lucille Ball.

  • what is he saying at 2:48 ?

  • no guten tag hopclop??

    lol

  • I liked the remake a little more than the original. I just love the music so much. Like the touchy songs like till him have a good hook to it. Will ferrel was good. Everyonr has an opinion

  • @Via1tunes -- Only thing I liked about the remake was the end w/ Bialystock, Bloom and Leibkind being pardoned for their great " prison inmate rehabilitation project" (Prisoners of Love) and going on to great Broadway success. Otherwise, it was a pale imitation of the original. Nathan Lane was no Zero Mostel. That Ferris Bueller kid was no Gene Wilder. Will Ferrell lacked the humor of Kenneth Mars. And the Lorenxo St. Dobois character was dropped?!?!? Horrible! Lame!

  • @Via1tunes Will Ferrel hammed it up to much I admit. But I liked Nathan Lane better than Zero Mostel IN THIS MOVIE. Same with matthew. Everything else was not as good.

  • just because the original is a masterpiece, doesnt mean the remake was bad. i love both

  • @Taymix05 thumbs up from me buddy!!

  • hhahaha gene wilder

  • Classic actor. RIP Kenneth Mars aka Franz Liebkind.

  • Kenneth Mars is also the voice of King Triton in Disney's The Little Mermaid.

  • @vigo894 That's so interesting. I've often seen him play roles with a foreign accent (like Otto in "Malcolm in the Middle"), so I'm not used to hearing him speak fluent english.

  • "You are ze audience... I am ze author.... I outrank you!"

  • Auf wiedersehen, Herr Liebkind, Inspektor Kemp (Salutes)

  • i love how gene wilder keeps looking like he's about to crack up :) kenneth mars is genius in this

  • ooh buteeful foor spaishus skys foor ambur waifs of- GWAT DO YOU WANT!?!

  • EEEEAAAAAAAUUUURGH, CHUUUURCHILL.

  • Hammerbros94. Unless i am much mistaken, they were singing "du du liegt mir im herzen", which most assuredly isn't the German national anthem.

  • Kenneth Mars was the PERFECT Franz! Sadly If Hitler had been more like the one Franz described, the Snappy dresser, Terrific Dancer, great painter & of course, better looking than Churchill, Germany would have been a nicer place. The Darker things Franz DIDNT see or remember was why it fell apart.....

Franz Shock & disbeleif of these things meant that he would rather rationalize that darker side as lies told by the allies than accept the truth about the leader he idolized ...

  • very funny underated actor--did heaps of good lines-and stuff-remember him in a small bit on get smart--in the TBO-WAS EXCELLENT in the classic original producers..this is critical gentlemen-i dont know if this is the short fuse or the long-ah ha,you see how smart the germans are--i said this is the short fuse-and it is the short fuse--the short fuse--BOOM-VERY FUNNY SCENE

  • From 2:00 to 3:15, I'm doing that monologue for my acting class.

  • I love this film. Everything about it. And Kenneth Mars is one of the important links to everything ironic about the story. R.I.P.(And Zero...you'll never be forgotten).

  • Dankt Herr Kenneth, you always found a way to make me laugh, i will remember you always!!

  • RIP Kenneth Mars - you played it so bad it was sublime. You were perfect in this role

  • Rest in peace Kenneth Mars. You will truly be missed.

  • R.I.P. Kenneth Mars

  • R.I.P. Kenneth Mars

  • RIP Mr.Mars....great stuff

  • To create both Franz Liebkind and Hugo Simon shows a rare breadth of talent. Today's Hollywood does not contain its equal.

  • To create both Franz Liebkind and Hugo Wearing shows a rare breadth of talent. Today's Hollywood does not contain its equal.

  • I was very sad to hear Kenneth Mars passed. This is the funniest scene in the film thanks to him

  • R.I.P. Ken :(

  • No one can improve upon perfection. This film was just unbelievable. Kenneth Mars was a natural comedian in everything that he was in, even" Malcolm In The Middle". Comedians today pale into insignificance. R.I.P. Mr. Mars.

  • R.I.P. Mr Mars :(

  • A great scene . . . but the "Springtime for Hitler" number is my favorite. "Don't be schtoopid! Be a shmarty! Come and join the Nazi pahty." (delivered in the movie and play by Brooks himself)

  • RIP Kenneth Mars

  • Just heard Kenneth Mars died. One of the few people who could make nazis funny. RIP Ken.

  • RIP Ken

  • What are they singing in his apartment?

  • @hammerbros94 The Deutschlandlied! AKA the national anthem of the Third Reich. ("Deutschland über alles...")...catchy, ain't it?

  • Never seen the remake, never will. What a terrible idea. I'm very disappointed in everyone involved.

  • mars is hilarious....see him too as "bud prize" on "fernwood tonight"

  • Re-make was epic fail idea. This is perfect.

  • I love the bird crap on his helmet

  • @Drac39 It was his idea to do that. Genius!

  • The genius of Franz Liebkind wearing a Nazi soldier's helmet throughout the entire movie is just too funny!

  • i think i have a crush on gene wilder

  • @rose7art Gene Wilder can make a straight man gay instantly. I would know.

  • @Skier1017

    lmfao :P i trust u

  • Will Ferrell is so desperate for people to love him that his performance comes off like high school acting. Kenneth Mars understands that this guy is a racist, anti-Semetic lunatic, and makes no bones about it. It's one of the funniest performances in the history of cinema.

  • @TulseLuper agreed!

  • @TulseLuper Hey, it could have been worse, they could have gone with Mike Myers....and Uma Thurman? She would have been better cast as one of Bialystok's ladies

  • @TulseLuper You are both SO right! Plus, the songs stink!

  • @TulseLuper Will Ferrell is the funniest man alive! Watch Step Brothers or Ancerman!

  • @Porsiba I have. He was alright in Anchorman, and he was incredibly annoying in Step Brothers (as he usually is). John C. Reilly had his moments but that's it.

  • @TulseLuper Its okay that you dont like him, but he is not desperate for pepole to love him.

  • @TulseLuper Ps: Sitting in green room whit justin Bieber...Must resist urge to roundhouse kick him in his midget face! By Will Ferrell on Twitter

  • @TulseLuper i disagree. i laughed the first time i saw this scene in the 2005 version. when i saw this it was kind of "eh". i thought ferrell's delivery was much better. plus, the 2005 version was an actual musical, so everything is big and, at times, over done. thats probably why you thought his performance came off that way.

  • @TulseLuper Bullshit

  • @DjChugalug239 Quality argument there, buddy.

  • @TulseLuper Be real you just don't like remakes so you automatically say his performance is bullshit compared to the originators which is complete and utter bullshit

  • @DjChugalug239 Actually, I do like some remakes: The Fly, Ocean's 11, True Grit, Nosferatu, Bad Lieutenant, 3:10 to Yuma, The Man Who Knew Too Much, The Departed, I could go on. Also, how is Will Ferrell any less over-the-top than Kenneth Mars? Whatever, you're clearly 15, you'll learn about logic and reason when you're older.

  • @TulseLuper Don't go basing your arguement off age, i grew up with this version so obviously ima support this & im not taking anything away from the original mainly bcuzz to me their very unique in there own ways.. and whos to say Will Farrell did'nt play the role with same mind set as Kenneth Mars just with his own unique twist. Of course thats what he wants to do to bring a little of himself onto the screen because after all it it a REMAKE and nobody wants to play it out just like the original

  • @TulseLuper Never mess with a classic .-)

  • 0 Germans saw this film lol

  • @SlippyMcSlipknot

    i saw it

  • They should have left it alone. They only re-did it for the money. The 2005 version is like a copy of The Mona Lisa.

  • @dublinrupepupkin The stage musical is quite good. Mel Brooks has always wanted to make a musical. Have you seen the dance number in this film?

  • Kenneth Mars was so frigging funny throughout the film. And they thought Will Ferrell could even match to the original performance?

  • Kenneth Mars was/is soooo underrated--an unsung comic genius.

  • @TheCatgirl6 Yep - Mel Brooks wanted to play Franz Liebkind...until Ken Mars read for the role...and Brooks realized he was funnier...and he improvised the line about Hitler painting an entire room in 2 coats...

  • @ClueSign Mars IMPROVISED that line?? Oh, good LORD!! XD

  • Gene Wilder is adorable in this.

  • agreed. probably the funniest scene in the entire film. Hysterical. The current politcial correctness brigadeers probably would not think the film would be funny, but this film is a downright classic.

  • @edgeacebeaglebrady

Absolutely hilarious - one of my all-time favorite films - I saw it in the theaters when it first came out and watch it every time I see it playing on the idiot box.

  • great acting
