Samsung omnia is an absolutely terrible phone. We also had another Samsung ( moment) which too was terrible. Lesson we learned is, never buy Samsung, the design looks good but it's build quality is absolutely terrible.
@CalebUnleashed Ive seen the s2, its still crappy. iPhone beat it in a boot up test. 7 of my friends have one, 3 of those actually froze and thus overheated, 2 others found it wasn't a smooth UI. so 5 out of 7 returned their s2. 4 of those 5 got a 4S and the last one got a different s2 which is having problems again.
Lesson is, samsung knows how to make refrigerators(my fridge) and expensive rip-off 3D TVs(no better than my flat 3D LG LED SmartTV that costs 4 times less), but not phones.
I'm sorry. Are any of you really watching the video?
Do you not notice how it has to load up the text message screen for about 2 full seconds? Or how the icons slowly appear after switching home screens?
or even when he tries to switch to landscape?
This phone is just garbage. My buddy got it free with a 3 year bell contract, and three months into the contract got rid of it and bought a blackberry for $600.
I tried this phone out and the touchscreen sucks, and couldn't keep up with my texting
Caleb, I know it's been months since you did this comparison, but if you can recall or still have the Samsung omnia II, how would you compare it's video quality to a regular non-HD video cam. Maybe compare it's video to those DVC (small tapes whatever they were called)? Would you say it's close to those old cameras or better? I always thought they were okay for video. Would love to have a phone with at least that quality video recording.
@huntingwolf20 The video quality is no where near as good as a DVC, it's like a good webcam... Majority of DVC's have extremely good video quality, and heaps more options. Cheers.
It is possible to edit the registry for a more sensitive display, and quick response of the virtual keyboard. A brand new OMNIA II sucks, but a changed one rules, believe me.
The iphone 3g/3gs seem to have a lot of other touch screen competitors these days from Motorola, Samsung, HTC, etc. If I had money (which I don't) I don't know what I would get to be honest. They all seem like they are imitating each other, so how can you go wrong with one? They all have wi-fi capabilties, full html browsers, great multimedia capabilities. I just don't know what to choose lol.
I have an OMNIA II. Now. I am dis appointed with it. I just got tired of all the extra work I have to do just to make if fast and work well. But what ever I do. it is still laggy and internet is still unberable. I had enough. Just waiting for the iphone 4g. Sure samsung screen is better. But only for more vibrant colors. If it is Internet browsing you ask, I hate my Omnia II as the 65K restriction give a terrible browqser readability, compared to the iphone.
Guys, dont think on hardware. I loose my Iphone 3g 8gb and now I have a omnia 2 and use, n97, 5800, htc diamond, and others smartphones. The iphone is the best phone on the market. The others phone are only copies of the iphone. If you use an iphone 3GS with JB, you dont want to buy other phone.
yea as if WM devices copy multi-tasking from iphone (one big joke about iphone)
as if WM copies customisation capability from iphone (another joke about iphone)
as if other phones install decent camera just to emulate iphone (another joke of them all)
iphone is a media inflated piece of shit (I offloaded my 3Gs as soon as I got it). WM has many advantages over iphone OS even tho WM kernel is out of date). Now WP7 copies iphone OS I think I will get an Android for my next phone
@manutd1968 You no have idea. Iphone IS multi-tasking, only apple quit multi-tasking to the users. IF you make a JB on iphone, you can enable this feature, and is more better than others phones.

@dic13sysmax I don't have to JB (void the warranty) my phone to get multi-tasking, unauthorised (by Apple) third party apps. Actually, I do transfer photos from my phone (i8000) to my pc regularly. In fact, I no longer use digi cam becos I don't have to carry an extra item out
I hate WP7, will change to Android soon. Android is nothing like iphone OS (in fact iphone is based on Unix which is based on linux)
Iphone is a backward fishing phone, that's why in Japan they call iphone "outphone"
yea as if WM devices copy multi-tasking from iphone (one big joke about iphone)
as if WM copies customisation capability from iphone (another joke about iphone)

iphone is a media inflated piece of shit (I offloaded my 3Gs as soon as I got it). WM has many advantages over iphone OS even tho WM kernel is out of date). Now WP7 copies iphone OS I think I will get an Android for my next phone
And why is the iPhone better than i8000 that it can be jailbraked? That's it: you need to JB your iPhone if you want to copy some downloaded files into it, but the Omnia II lets you to do it without any hacks or brakes.
Anyway, the i8000 is a PDA and iPhone is just a smartphone with a locked OS, so the Omnia II is much more clever and shapable than the iPhone - hard to compare, they're not in the same categorie.
....by the way I have been using SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 and whilst I agree it is better than Touchwiz the beauty is only skin deep.
Underneath it all is a very clunky and out of date Windows Mobile. There are other annoyances too: NO THREADED SMS as Samsung have completely disabled it despite the fact that is is supported in WM 6.1,, annoying 'message sent' notifications that CANNOT be turned off, low sound through the headphones. If you must have a Windows Mobile phone go with HTC and Touchflo.
Quite funny that you should call me a dumbass with none of the facts at hand. You are an i910 owner so calling someone a 'dumbass' when you yourself don't have the device to hand is somewhat 'dumbass', is it not? SKtools DOES NOT turn off the message sent notification on the i8000 - try it yourself if you can ever afford to buy one, and don't judge people. I spoke from experience; you spoke from ignorance and assumption.
Regardless if I have i910 or i8000, I am running winmo 6.5, which by the way doesn't matter what hardware you use, the options are the same on a software level.
You are completely wrong: just because two devices run the same software does not mean that tweaks will work on both devices. if you are such a seasoned windows mobile use r you should be aware of this. by the way im quite familiar with Vito sms but this app is rather clunky in itself and very expensive.quite funny that you should write of the iphone for lacking features which are remedied for free then recommend an app which is overpriced and brings a feature that should be there anyway
The thing is, with Winmo, the option is there of getting anything you want for NO COST.
But you're not smart enough to bother looking.
And no, winmo 6.5 is winmo 6.5, regardless of hardware. The only thing that differs is how it's presented. It functions the same from device to device excluding carrier tweaks, like today screens and skins.
Instead of complaining about how much Winmo sucks, educate yourself. Read forums, app sites, find out about what programs you can get a hold of to better your experience.
Or get an iPhone, this is clearly too complicated for you.
@T4Taco Educate ourselves? Why would we have to spend time with a steep learning curve for things that should've been easy to begin with?
For no cost? Are you saying piracy? If so, the iPhone has its userbase as well. WinMo 6.5 regardless of what, is a poor implementation compared to Android and the iPhone's. HTC at least makes their UI look nice and usable. I don't see it with the Omnia.
You do get freewares with the Omnia, although some of the best apps. cant be bough, Winmobile isn't bad looking at all you if the take time to tweak and test it, otherwise for most of people here that can't handle a single headache Iphone will fit them.
Just sold my i8000: good camera, GREAT video quality, superb AMOLED screen BUT typing on the screen is awful, even with 3rd party keyboards installed and the display is IMPOSSIBLE to view in daylight. There are no decent YouTube apps (the official one uses rubbish 3gp streaming), the MS Facebook App is a sack of crap. Opera suffers from frequent accidental keypresses that take you into new pages and often dropdown menus dont work.
Unfortunately I feel resigned to go back to the iPhone.
...just tipped me off you don't know what you are talking about. i8000 has a backlight that you can turn on/off to save battery = during the day the amoled screen is good enough, for night turn on the backlight. You clearly did NOT learn how to use this phone even superficially.
How do I not know what I'm talking about? by impossible to view in daylight I meant that in bright light or with the sun shining it is next to impossible to see what's happening on the I8000 display. this is a know problem with amoled displays but is made all the worse by the resistive, none-transflective layer and is only marginally helped by turning the backlight up to full (which also has the negative effect of wasting battery)t: you are clearly very forgiving of your phone.
meh, the display is great. the 'negative effect of wasting battery" when backlight is on is the same "negative effect of wasting battery" for EVERY phone. This is not an amoled "problem", it's just an obvious effect if the technology, which is WHY the backlight can be turned on.
You have completely missed the point. AMOLED screens are KNOWN to be poor in sunlight compared to standard LCD - try viewing the N86 screen in daylight compared with the N82. The i8000 is even WORSE because it has an EXTRA NON TRANSFLECTIVE resistive touchscreen layer on TOP of the AMOLED screen. Your backlight point is irrelevent: the iPhone, for example, can be viewed perfectly in the sunlight EVEN WITH THE BACKLIGHT SWITCHED TO ITS LOWEST SETTING, because it uses transflective glass and LCD.

bullshit it's faster that shit is laggy like any other windows mobile crap I should know I have two but i'll stick to my ipod touch and mifi it to my pre or hell even the nokia n97 beats this WinMo. can't wait for the sprint hero
a friend of mine told me... when u update the software from 6.1 to 6.5 it wont be that much laggy and u dont have to press down as hard as on the 6.1 software...
weird becos mine (using Touchwiz 2.0 +Widget Plus, S2U2 + Samsung Lockscreen mod + 25 other apps) doesn't lag at all, it's very snappy. screen is just about as responsive as (altho not as responsive) Capacitive touchscreen devices like the iphone 3Gs and F488 Touchwiz (I have both).
Altho the phone still doesn't run as smooth as the iphone (not even the HD2 is anyway becos at kernel level WM is totally out of date), it's better than the iphone overall.
first of all this is a completely unfair video. at least compare the omnia 2 with the 3gs... 2nd, the samsung touchwiz interface is incredibly heavy, thats why even with the 800mhz processor it still lags. however, if u install something like spb mobile shell 3, or pointui, the phone flies. if u were to compare omnia 2 to the 3g, omnia 2 would kill it in every aspect. 3gs may be a more fair comparison, but i think omnia 2 will still beat it ;]
Samsung can not do a important task like making the operating system Smooth. WTF Samsung? you have the most superior hardware and you do not have a smooth operating system???????
Yeah that's so true, when I play with the Omnia II, the home screen sliding, menu's changing, or the 3D cube selection are all very noticeably jittering.. Movies on it look amazing though.... 100 times better than the iPhone
@joaharu. If you think about it, they pretty much skinned all the WM 6.1 to their touch Wiz or w.e. samsung calls it. Unlike TouchFlo3D skinned by HTC, they only did part of the skin and if you go deep inside, you still see the classic WM6.1 skin unlike Samsung did with omnia. Just wait till O2 gets to US to bestbuy on Aug. 23 and they say it's gonna ship with WM 6.5 which i'm anticipated!!!!
I like the Omnia 2 but this is hardly a comparison video. Also not that though the Omnia 2 has a faster CPU, its still very laggy while trying to load the videos while the Iphone loaded them with ease.
@ storage2k, Enjoy your one task at a time, gimmick, fad, brick, of a 2007 phone with overpriced fart apps and a very annoying self righteous consumer base..
lol @ T4Taco having to try so hard to defend his phone. I addressed the "one task" at a time with Proswitcher+Backgrounder (both free). Gimmick/fad? Really? Utility and ease of use is important to me and the Omnia doesn't provide it. So the iPhone is a 2007 phone...right. Being an Android and iPhone user, WinMo phones are crap with the exception of HTC's line due to their SenseUI/Touchflo3D implementations. Besides overpriced fart apps, there are countless number of useful apps.
by the way i dont see any comparisons of hardware's capable speed. the only thing u did was play around with i8000 and just had the 3g next to it playing a video on a smaller screen.
wat i was looking for was something like webpage loading speed.
besides the 3g has a slower cpu, of course its slower.

first of all this is a completely unfair video. at least compare the omnia 2 with the 3gs... 3gs may be a more fair comparison, but i think omnia 2 will still beat it ;]

so wait how much was the price of the phone?
shervinguy 2 years ago
16GB version (the one in the vid) is well over $950

don't like the resistive touch screen. iphone beat omnia in that.

Samsung can not do a important task like making the operating system Smooth. WTF Samsung? you have the most superior hardware and you do not have a smooth operating system???????
joaharu 2 years ago
Yeah that's so true, when I play with the Omnia II, the home screen sliding, menu's changing, or the 3D cube selection are all very noticeably jittering.. Movies on it look amazing though.... 100 times better than the iPhone
CalebUnleashed 2 years ago
23 and they say it's gonna ship with WM 6.5 which i'm anticipated!!!!

yeah you are right
it is weird indeed
but still the Omnia II rapes the iphone.
leos666 2 years ago 4
I like the Omnia 2 but this is hardly a comparison video. Also not that though the Omnia 2 has a faster CPU, its still very laggy while trying to load the videos while the Iphone loaded them with ease.
datboy03 2 years ago
That's because the iPhone doesn't multitask.
One app at a time.
On an Omnia you can open as many apps as you like, with each you're gunna get laggier for obvious reasons of eating up RAM.
This phone is stock. With a little work, downloading tweaks and installing SK Tools and registry hacks, this phone will be blazing fast.
First of all, who even bothers to use the stock "skin"? Manilla, SPB, all better alternatives and lighter on the system resources!
T4Taco 2 years ago 3
Agreed. Stock skins out of the box are never good. Once you get something cooked, it's so much faster.

@T4Taco iPhone + Multifl0w+Backgrounder = Win. Anyhow, enjoy your 2009 phone with only 65k colours and resistive touch .
storage2k 2 years ago
@storage2k
thats because of winMo!!! AMOLED would show 16 000 000 colors!!!
and ya all should know that AMOLED doesnt use "Backlight" every pixel is a LED (LightEmittingDiode)
Only Sh** on I8000 is the resistive in case of Quality!!! capacitive is always the better way!
lovepochick 2 years ago
Ya I know lol. If only Samsung went Android with this phone along with capacitive touch. It'd be quite the challenger on the market.

@ storage2k, Enjoy your one task at a time, gimmick, fad, brick, of a 2007 phone with overpriced fart apps and a very annoying self righteous consumer base..
=]
T4Taco 2 years ago
lol @ T4Taco having to try so hard to defend his phone.

Omnia 2 looks soooo good!! I love the end :D

by the way i dont see any comparisons of hardware's capable speed. the only thing u did was play around with i8000 and just had the 3g next to it playing a video on a smaller screen.
wat i was looking for was something like webpage loading speed.
besides the 3g has a slower cpu, of course its slower.
