  • Great lesson sir!. But a couple of the riffs are not quite right though. See my video for minor corrections that will make it sound more authentic.

  • I love you guitar man!

  • Which strings do you strum at the beginning? You say you don't play the A string at all...doesn't make much sense to me because otherwise I think I won't get the sound right. But great lesson for sure! Finally I can try to play some songs of my favorite band!

  • I've trying to figure this for 20 years - I'm off to tune my guitar !! Million t'anks!!!

  • fuck yeah dude

    thanks!

  • One of the best riffs ever.

  • good job, but you should clean your tone up a bit - for a lesson - so the tones (individual notes) are easier to hear -

    thanks

  • def shoulda shown how your picking

  • for a beginner like me, it doesn't make sense if we don't see your right hand

  • @sekahkiller it makes more sense because it will only complicate it...just play it strumming with the correct fingering and play around until you get the right sound...there are only 6 strings

  • @mrkflpc I agree. but on a demo you barely see which string is to play. Excuse my english

  • @sekahkiller If I were a beginner, I would concentrate on other songs. Play whatever you like, but I wouldn't call this a beginner-level song. To be honest, if you're going to play this well, you shouldn't need instruction on the strumming hand at all.

  • @privettricker Well I'm not exactly a beginner. I've been playing guitare for 3 years and half when I was between 10 and 14 yo. Now I'm almost 20 and like to play some, but not very oftenly. So I got few skills.

  • Thank you.

  • Best song in the movie blow.

  • we were raised on those Stones albums in the 1970s. Do you know how many albums Keith used open G tuning for? Did he use it on "Its only Rock n Roll" and "Black and Blue"?

  • @COMMUNISTPHILOSOPHY Check my channel for Stones songs. There are a bunch from both those albums in open G.

  • Dude, there is not one single video of yours that I've watched that I don't like! You are a great part of the music community on Youtube! Just want to say thanks again! I have figured out a lot of these songs on my own, but I always check your versions to see what I can do better. Thanks, man! :)

  • I just got a lovepedal les lius.... and I can;t stop playing the intro!!!!! lol sounds so bad ass! great lesson man! I wish I had this youtube when I was learning to play!

    kudos!

  • know any places that have good deals on Telecasters?

  • @theplourde The best deals I've seen are on ebay and craiglist. Guitar Center has pretty much destroyed mom-and-pop guitar stores, and Guitar Center's prices stink.

  • @privettricker I love Guitar Center. I bought a Baja Tele tele with a chip on the lower back (near the strap button) for $450! Plus, at a freaking mom-and-pop guitar store, they don't want to to touch anything (unless of course you're one of their cronies.) At Guitar Center, I can go there everyday, if I'm so inclined, and bang on a $3300 Martin 000-28EC Eric Clapton Signature Series guitar for hours on end, and no one bothers you.... except to say hi and shoot the shit.

  • @theplourde mouradian guitar co. winchester mass

  • @theplourde If you're not set on getting a real Fender Telecaster, there are some very nice Squier Teles, especially the Classic Vibe early 50s Blackguard knockoff. That guitar is an especially good platform for modding. If you're one of those kids who likes flat (distinctly un-Tele) fingerboards, you can get an SX Furian or STL from Rondo Music for next to nothing. Were it not for the flat "metal" fingerboards, I'd buy 4 or 5 of them and go nuts modding them.

  • @Hoopermazing Thank you very much, I really do appreciate this.

  • Hey, I really love your videos! Most live videos of the Rolling Stones focus a lot on Mick, but now I can really see how Keith plays all those awesome songs! You did use a lot of distortion though... I also adore your Telecaster, were did you get it? Greetings from Belgium.

  • You covered it all man! The riffs, the licks, you name it!

  • god i love that guitar

  • Thanks!!

  • Also, the more I listen to the recorded version, the more I'm convince it was recorded using either a Champ or a Princeton. Plug into a Champ and turn it way up and play a Tele with humbucker in the neck position. It's pretty darn close in tone.

  • I can't believe I know how to play this song! This is one of those mysterious songs that is awesome but very few guys actually know how to play it (properly). If you're in the right tuning, it's actually not that difficult - technically speaking. It's all about the feel and groove though. You really have to be able to get "inside" this rhythm to understand the timing. It's the archetypal Keith riff!

  • I should look before I ask, but i'll forget. Have you covered or done a lesson on Before They Make Me Run, and if not, could/would ya, please?

  • @kcuhcsniknej Check my channel.

  • @privettricker, thanks! I didn't think this comment posted and then I went and searched your vids and sure enough, there it was, next I'm hunting down Eileen. Keep on rocking brother!

  • yes thanks, im trying to learn the riff , it one of my favorites!i just cant seem to get it down

  • can you tell us if you are picking some of the first note or all strumming? thanks im having a hard time learning this riff

  • @cloveman40 Hmmm. Not sure what you mean. In the intro, I'm picking mostly the D/G/B strings. I fret the A string, but don't pick it. Does that help?

  • what guitar are you using in this?

  • @purplefluffcake That's a 1968 reissue Telecaster.

  • Excellent lesson!

  • sweet man.. nice guitar... nice lesson. good quality and easy to understand.. THX

  • nice job.. thnks...

  • nice job. Thanks!!!!

  • I am having a hard time nailing the riff that Keith plays at the beginning of the vamp part of the song. In your play along version you were changing guitars at that point. Any suggestions for how to play it in open G?

Thanks a lot for all your great stuff!

  • Of course tube fender twins,,I just never got the chance what it feels like to stand in front of a marshall combo. I like to get that stonesy sound so I guess I will stick to the classic amps,,btw what tuning is the slide part on sister morphine? open E?

  • I'm assuming that slide part is open A.

  • I never tune my E down either,,I just leave it alone.

I have just picked up the guitar again after 10 years (I used to play in a stones tribute band ions ago) I wanted to ask how the Marshall is treating you, Iam thinking of buying a new rig and never dabbled with Marshalls for stonesy type music. Really enjoying the vids!

  • I actually don't find Marshalls all that great for Stones tone.

I'm thinking Fender Twin or Vox.

  • first person I've seen play this right, amp is a little oversaturated for keef's sound though

  • Keith has never been a Marshall guy, so it's not easy (possible?) to get his tone with a stack.

    I'd need a Vox or a Fender.

Besides, I want to sound like me!

  • thank for this. finally a great lesson for this and damn near spot on. it was mick taylors lead though...i think.

  • Yes, the lead is Mick Taylor. Keith wouldn't play that Santana-style stuff.

  • @privettricker heh heh thanks man for the lesson on one of my favorite stones songs. love the stones but this is one of my all time favs. it embodies some of the guttural electric blues that the stones represents.

  • great lesson. Is that a James Burton tele?

  • A reissue from about 5 years ago.

  • Your guitars are sooooo pretty! I love the orange Paisley!

  • I guess it does look a little orange in that lighting, but it's actually pink.

  • i think this was actually Mick T's part, wasnt it? He always played it on his solo gigs.

  • No, this is Keith's part. This has Keith written all over it.

I wouldn't doubt Mick T. plays it at his solo gigs, though.

  • Thanks alot. I have been playing with open G alot lately and appreciate your post.

    Chuck

  • Great lesson. You're hitting all my personal fav's with the stones. I was playing this wrong for a long time and now it sounds right. Thanks for all your work, I know it's helped me. Any Ry Cooder slide??

  • My slide playing sounds closer to a Racoon than Ry Cooder.

  • hey...thanks 4 the tutorial....this song rocks

  • thx,amazing!!!!
