  • Trying to live life to the expectation of others can drive you mad, it was as true then as it is now. This reminds me of my grandmother and grandfather she loved him even though fighting in the Pacific had driven him into a bottle.

If I were to describe Hickey it would be as an antihero fraught with human failings and weaknesses that rendered him unable to resist the temptations of the flesh.

  • One person is still clinging to his pipe dream.

  • 2:44 is that robert redford!?

  • @amacinom Yes, you can find redford in the Twilight Zone episode also.

  • Amazing.

  • Pacino's acapella is stronger, I wonder if it would hold up as well as Robards given the same pacing requirements of live TV. Either is fuckin' eh!

  • SalveQuintus, thank you, thank you, and thank you. I never had any clue that Jason Robards was such a powerhouse. Marry up his acting with Eugene O'Neill's writing and you have perfection. This clip was truly INCREDIBLE! I don't think you'll ever see this kind of performance from one of today's young "actors," but I do hope I'm wrong. Truly spellbinding! Thanks again!

  • Also see the great Jason Robards in the great Once Upon a Time in the West.

  • Amazing!!!

  • Flat out incredible.

  • This is fucking great Mr Robart whas a great actore.I read Lauren Bacall autobiography which she discribes her personal life exackly as it is being potraid here.

  • There has been no greater playwright within 100 years that understood humanity better than O'Neil.

    Hickey's monologue is theatrical perfection.
