Did you know that Buzz Sawyer was the kicker for The Dallas Cowboys in a couple of their games during the replacement season in 1987? Also, he and Troy Aikman are the only two players in Cowboys history to ever wear a #8 jersey. Aikman was drafted in 1989.
@lakebay972 Sorry man, that was a different Buzz Sawyer. The punter was from Tx. and born in '62. Our hero was from FL and born in '59. Hope I didn't burst your bubble too much.
if you list the top ten feuds in wrestling history, the tommy rich, buzz swayer feud was in my opinion the no. 1 of all time. the memories of the nwa is priceless.
November 7, 1982 (Sunday) Atlanta, GA Omni Coliseum (Paul Jones (01) Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Johnny Rich versus Buzz Sawyer > Brad Armstrong versus Ivan Koloff > Tommy Rich versus Jerry Lawler > Butch Reed versus the Super Destroyer (01) >
Ole Anderson & Stan Hansen & Ernie Ladd versus the Iron Sheik & the Samoans (02) (Afa & Sika) > National Heavyweight Title Match: Paul Orndorff over the Masked Superstar* to win the title / Notes: Sonny King managed the Sheik and the Samoans.
BUZZ SAWYER BABY!!! I remember this feud like it was yesterday.. I think it shortened both Sawyer & Rich's careers. At least Wildfire won the NWA title for a week long reign.
That's correct. Ernie was managing them in Mid-South (he would wear a grass skirt over his slacks), but Scandar Ackbar stole them and injured Ladd in the process. This was back when rivalries would cross promotions, which was really cool.
I was thinking last night how Roddy piper would have went over in both world class and memphis. I think he would have ended up a great face in texas with the von erichs and a great heel in Memphis mocking lawler.
Back when regional wrestling was king!!

@ngrant33 No, they're one of the same. The bio might've been altered so that people wouldn't link him to wrestling and take him more seriously.

The Super Destroyer was pretty awesome
mrhollister09 2 years ago 2
His name was Don Jardine. Was also known as The Spoiler.
emacdaddyfunk 2 years ago
No. This Super Destroyer was Scott Irwin. The brother of Wild Bill Irwin. Jardine was the SD in 70's for Mid-Atlantic.
NAYellowjackets 2 years ago
this is gonna drive me crazy. I agree that this SD was not Jardine but this guy has too thin of a built to be Scott Hog Irwin.
patvilhauer 2 years ago
From what I have read it was Irwin but he does look thin
