Perhaps this decision was taken under political influence. When could we say that any human matter/activity would be possibly out of the political influence? It seems that never. It is enough to see what is happening in China with Summer Olympic Games. However, we can not deny that Russia has an historical and significant tradition in winter sports. That country (under different denominations) has the highest number of medals in the history of the Winter Olympic Games.Whose turn is it? Russia.

У России а 1992 года 76 медалей, из них 33 золотые. Если прибавить победы СССР, то в общем зачёте получается 1-е место (120 золотых). Да, за СССР выступали и представители других республик, но большинство чемпионов были всё-таки из России (лыжи, фигурное катание, хоккей, биатлон).

It's unfortunate not everyone came away happy from this. The Koreans really looked crushed. I know many are heart-broken that Korea lost for the second time by only a few votes. They put in a lot of effort and their presentation was extremely well done.

On the other hand, I'm very happy for the Russians.

Perhaps South Korea will have better luck in 2018. After all, the third time's the charm.
